It’s a long time since I walked out of a restaurant but there are only so many times that a waitress can say she’s coming to take your order and not do it. After a while the pub across the road started beckoning with promises of cod and leek pie and curry chips, and lo and behold. the decision was made and Samurai was dust in our tracks. Best decision ever.

Small and intimate setting which was busy on Saturday night but they worked hard to fit us in. A large menu in which we found some good and well presented entrees. The staff were very nice, friendly and polite. Will be back.

This place gets a bit packed. However what you don’t see from the streetfront is that they have a sneaky little outdoor bit out the back that’s covered with a gas heater out there. Toasty! We didn’t have a booking and all the funky looking tables out the front were taken. No bother, I was so hungarious that it wasn’t that important. Seating was irrelevant. I wanted all their foods. We were seated and given these wonderful little things that was a bit like a tangy salad served up in a tiny dish that you usually use to pour your soy sauce into. It tasted so good that I took my partners one too when he wasn’t looking then promptly blamed a mouse. I ordered the gyukushi for my entrée and wasn’t disappointed. The beef was tender and the sauce was just perfect. Not too sweet and not too tangy. My partner ordered the yakitori — which was equally as delicious. I know this because the mouse struck again when I pointed out the interesting art work on the wall to my companion. Mains consisted of teriyaki chicken and the crispy chicken. Crispy chicken was mine and it really was crispy without being overpowering. I don’t know how they do this… I might marry the chef. The teriyaki chicken was just as good. Mouse attacked AGAIN! They should do something about those pesky rodents. All in all, even though we were tucked away out the back the wait staff were just as attentive to us as if we were out the front of the house. A definite must do if you love all things Japanese.
