Sooooo I’m a dietitian and I NEVER eat kebabs whilst in a drunken stupor… So this review is for the food my, um, boyfriend gets! Yup that’s it… Not me! *insert guilty handwringing here* Ok, ok, I admit to an occasional tipsy kebab indulgence in my time. And Darling Kebabs is on the higher end of kebab quality. Their hummus is creamy, their chips crispy and piping hot with loads of chicken salt, and their proportion of meat-to-salad-to-bread spot on. Their falafel are also quite good. The staff are friendly. However, they get dinged a star for price. $ 5 for a portion of small chips? Maybe if they were homemade, but they are not. And extra sauces and add-ons are always priced separate, annoying for a condiment-crazy, salad-loving foodie such as myself. Once we got a pizza to take home(a Hawaiian) and the ham was shockingly processed and gross, so much so that we couldn’t eat it all. Sigh. That’s probably more of our fault than theirs– it was probably beef ham or something, since the place is halal. But they do make the pizza dough from scratch, so props for that. All in all, a more-than-decent place to satisfy your post-pub noshing needs!

Great for dinner whenever I happen to be in Balmain at that particular time of day for any reason; and it is usually on those occasions that I am not in the mood to physically sit down at a restaurant and eat something; so this is where either one of their falafel’s or doner kebabs saves the day. Take it home, or eat it at the nearby park and then head back home. Also love their baklava’s; so crispy and fresh. I mainly come here for their doner kebabs and falafel’s. After having tried their falafel’s(no joke) I don’t want to buy any from the organic section of the supermarket. This is a compliment. Normally when I buy a falafel roll from kebab establishments, the falafel is normally lacking flavour or quality taste to some degree; or otherwise(my major pet hate) it is too dry and I need to drink plenty of water to combat such dryness; or worse: I would be more inclined to ask for more garlic sauce to suck it in. Not at this establishment. Their falafel’s are moist, and you do not need any sauce to drown the fillings to give it more wetness. Fantastic. Pretty good service; the staff are smiling; they are efficient and rather fast on their feet as well which is spectacular to say the least. Expect to be quite full at the end.
