It’s wonderful when you are pleasantly surprised and this is what happened when we went for dinner at Steel Tree in Baldivis. Our daughter and her fiancé invited us out to this restaurant close to their home, we hadn’t heard of it so weren’t sure what it would be like. Well the food and service were exceptional. My only complaint is that just over $ 40 for a fillet steak seemed a little high but it was the best I have had in a very long time. I asked for medium/rare and that’s exactly what it was, cooked perfectly. The sauce was a little watery but still tasted beautiful. Everyone was very happy with their meal and we left very happy. I’d definitely return.

Have been to SteelTree several times this year and have always enjoyed the experience. The food is reliably good as is the service. The wine list is not extensive, but adequate. This place is a fair suburban, informal restaurant. Not five star, but ok

Going out for a family dinner and decided to stay close to home and return to the Steel Tree as we haven’t been disappointed before. After receiving a very happy server taking us to our table and returning very soon with bottles of chilled water and to take our drinks order, the dinner was off to a good start. When the drinks arrived we ordered our starters and got the kitchen working on them while we made our main decision. My wife and I went with the shared seafood platter for starters and it was excellent. A the platter has a selection of pan fried scallops on grilled chorizo, spicy squid and balsamic & garlic marinated prawns with a rocket & parmesan salad. The prawns melted in your mouth and the squid was very tender(and just a bit spicy). My only complaint was that, although the scallops were cooked nicely, there was nowhere near enough sear to make the flavour explode. Here is where our experience was dulled. After we had finished our starters and first round of drinks, the server returned to take another drink order but didn’t take away our empty glasses or plates. They stayed on the table until just before our mains arrived even though staff were moving about the dining area all the time. A cluttered table does make it a little less comfortable in between courses. The mains arrived in a decent amount of time so that you didn’t feel too rushed. My wife went with the Chef’s ‘Reef On Reef’ special, a pan fried fillet of fish with a light lemon pepper seasoning topped with creamy garlic prawns. I had a small taste and the fish had good flavour and was cooked well. The garlic prawns were very creamy and very garlicky. As advertised, I guess. My Tender Ridge Fillet Steak with pepper sauce was requested medium rare, but came out a little under done. A minute or two more of resting could have fixed this, but it wasn’t a problem. It was thick, juicy and very tender. The pepper sauce was one of the better pepper sauces I have tasted. I believe it was made from scratch with a liberal amount of butter to give it that wonderfully glossy finish. For a suburban restaurant, the prices are probably a little high but we did skip dessert because the serves were fairly substantial. So the value for money is pretty good. In the end it was a good meal that was slightly let down by the slow clearing of empty glasses. Otherwise, the service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely go back.
