Abort abort! Worst service I have ever received. Food not that great. Waitress was insanely rude and out of line. Forced to give a star. Don’t deserve one.

Second time I’ve been here. First time was a couple of years ago and it’s since changed hands. Still seems excellent to me. We had a selection of entrees — sausage, octopus, calamari and a shared main, spaghetti. Wine was an Austrian riesling. The service was friendly and efficient. I really liked it again and would certainly wish to return.

This neighbourhood diner has a cult following amongst locals and for good reason. I have been many times over the years and have never been disappointed. The food is always seasonal and tasty, the staff friendly and busily efficient. They do this blissful cheese soufflé which you shouldn’t go past if it is on the menu — it’s quite rich and perfect to share as an entrée. The best bit, however, is the wine. More often than not something unusual is available and generally at a very reasonable price. The space is quite small, so definitely make a booking rather than just dropping in. It’s also great for a coffee or a cocktail mid afternoon.

Love an occasional visit here. There’s not many amazing places on Carlisle Street so this place has to do. Tonight we had a cheese plate, simple but delicious to pick at whilst having a chat. Wait staff were a bit Friday night frantic but were pleasant enough. Doesn’t blow my socks off… x

Perhaps I haven’t spent enough time searching, but Carlisle St and its surrounds aren’t famous for their quality of dinner options. Thankfully Carlisle Wine Bar is the exceptional exception. Besides the staff who can sometimes be rude and judgmental, this restaurant is a really nice place for a casual dinner and drink throughout the week. It gets a lot busier on weekends so I do recommend booking. The food is mostly Italian influenced, and the rich flavours don’t disappoint. My favourite dish is the angel hair sea food pasta — simple but delicious. Being a wine bar, they have a great range of wines to accompany all meal choices, and most of the waiters have an extensive knowledge about pairing, which is probably why they’re a little bit cocky. This place is also a great spot for a weekend afternoon drink, with plenty of outdoor seating.
