Had a fabulous dinner, the King Prawns. My wife had the steak, which was cooked perfectly. I had a glass of the Savignon Blanc which a great selection as well. The service was also very good. The meal was a good value!

Not sure why I called this Asian fusion, it could also be modern something or other. I do know its fantastic. Simon Thomsen’s review contends the food is a mix of Asian and Mediterranean — not a category yet in Unilocal. I love it when a chef gets something good and simple and then does nothing to it other than something good and simple. The special was a plate of flash fried school prawns. All that had been done was to perfectly cook them and pop them on a plate with an aoli type concoction on the side(Simon Thomsen would have been able to identify it) — it was an exact match for the prawns. There were plenty of them and they were delicious heads and all. The chef also does very complicated, technique based cuisine including the bugs*(I cant remember if they were a special or not) — they were sensational. Keeno had the scallops as usual and raved. There are not many restaurants where she hasn’t had the scallops. If she says so, they are good. Just makes me think the chef was so wise to spot the prawns and cook them without showing off anything except judgment. This is the go to place in Avalon now. Love it. *Shovel Nosed Lobsters either from Moreton Bay or Balmain for those who were concerned at how Asian the fusion had become. Update 2013 Staff all still there, food is still the best on the Northern Beaches. Update 2014 Our waitress has taken her nose stud out. Seriously, same waitress, three years running. Unfortunately they have de bugged the menu. Meaning the Singapore bugs have gone. Pity. Still great. Update 2015 Same team, same Chef/owner same excellence in every respect. Fraser Island spanner crab ommlette, oven roasted Hapuka(a special) — the best fish I have had for years. Perfectly cooked and wonderful pesto style flavours that didn’t dominate a beautiful piece of fish. Still the best place going around for mine. Crispy fried king prawns, whitebait fritters and oysters for the others — with all agreeing this place is a gem. Update 2016 Our waitress has been here for eight years. Same team, same chef, same perfect food and service. Just go. Still THE place to eat in Avalon.
