So, my lovely partner introduced me to this pizza bar. It has been his favourite since he was a kid and his face always lights up when I suggest we go there for dinner. Check out his review, you can just see how much he is dedicated to it! But, I understand why he loves his place so much; they just serve quality pizza. Made with love by a friendly and talented Italian couple. So sweet and happy to see you every time you visit! Now this pizza shop has been open for a very long time! I am not sure how long? Maybe over 20 years? Owned by the same couple who work there every day. So, that is saying something isn’t it! A pizza store that stays open that long in the suburbs has a loyal client base. My partner one of those loyal customers. Why are they good? Bases are always perfect, not to thick and not too thin. There is a good ratio of toppings, so it cooks perfectly and never soggy. A pizza should hold its shape when you hold the slice, which it does. They use good quality ingredients and have a great sauce with lots of flavour. It is also really affordable, with different sizes and options to meet all budgets and needs. Check out the gourmet pizza menu for different styles of pizza, there is one with broccoli that I have been dying to try for a while. But, when we go to this pizza bar it is a ritual. Chilli Inferno with olives and anchovies. It is damn good! Everyone has their go to pizza, this is ours!

Having grown up in Athelstone, my appreciation of DaMario goes beyond the usual casual interest and occasional pop in. It’s no longer my local pizzeria, however — like a supermassive black hole, the thought of its pizzas is always pulling me towards them. The gravity of these pizzas affects me more the closer I get to Athelstone, however the stellar mass of their tasty bases and flavorous ingredients is always curving space time around them so I am still within their event horizon while at home in the Hills. Our family favourite is the«inferno» which after adding olives and anchovies has what can only be described as the best combination of flavours that have ever been put on a pizza. This is one of those meals that I could safely say I would eat every day for the rest of my life on a desert island with perhaps a few beers to wash it down. The other bonus with DaMario is that it is a family run business, with the same owners who have been there since I can remember, and I’ve been going there for at least 15 years. They take pride in their work and the standard has been consistent the whole time and will be into the future as the younger generation continue the tradition. Also, DaMario supports local football teams(or soccer, depending on where you grew up) and have Adelaide United and other signed jerseys and posters on display. The only downside to DaMario(for me) is that it’s not next door to my house. There is always the option for me to buy a caravan, grow a long beard and wear tissue boxes as slippers and park in the carpark so that I can eat their pizza for every meal, so they can hardly be blamed for that.

Da Mario’s is what it is! They make the best pizzas I’ve had anywhere. Drop in on a Friday or Saturday evening and the crowd proves the popularity and quality. Make sure you ring and order, then the wait for pizza heaven won’t be so long. This and Gellato Bello are Adelaide icons!!!

Da Mario’s is a bit of a staple out here — they do good, dependable Italian food — big serves of pasta, traditional pizza — they don’t have too much in the way of the trendy, gourmet toppings going around the traps, like yiros pizza and tandoori chicken, but the menu they do is very well practiced, and good for a simple night out. I do have one small criticism for Da Mario’s — it feels just a little crowded. I realise it’s a necessity, they are very well frequented and a restaurant needs to make money, but when it gets to feeling a little sardine like, I’m not entirely sure it’s a good thing. The food makes up for it, and given the venue itself I don’t know a lot can be done about it. The atmosphere is great — staff are friendly and happy, and it’s worth getting a pickup just to see the pizza makers in full swing :)
