In my quest to dodge the dealer’s expensive silver bullet when it comes to car service, earlier this year — and on a neighbour’s advice — I decided to go local and try an independent mechanic at Ashgrove, Chandler’s Corner Auto Centre, to work on my Pajero. The place is always busy, as I drive by it regularly, but the thought of going away from my Mitsubishi dealer service was somewhat daunting; now, I can only imagine how much money I would have saved if only I’d gone there for service years ago. Andrew Burrows, the owner, and his team are great people to work with. Their service is impeccable with an honesty — they actually try to save you money on repairs! — that’s a rarity in today’s world of hustle and bustle. They service all makes and models of cars, utes — almost whatever you drive — with a quick turnaround time and labour costs that won’t break the bank! They also handle Safety Certificates — got one for a Honda Accord I recently sold — and also sell batteries, ice and even BBQ gas. However, go there for the automotive service. You’ll be a convert if you own a car.
