The restaurant is pretty convenient to get to on the Great Eastern highway. Parking is at the back. Not very busy most of the time, so reservation shouldn’t be required. The food quality is good even though it can be a little pricy. Authenticity-wise, I wouldn’t say it is very Japanese, even though it is a Japanese restaurant. So far I’ve tried bento dishes and a few small appetizers, they are just ok. I had the tempura bento and the Saba fish bento. The portions are quite large. The nice thing about bento boxes is that you can try a bit of everything. There are 2 pieces of sushi(tuna filled), just so so, miso soup, not bad, rice, typical, and the main dish. The tempura is a little greasy, but still quite tasty. There is fried shrimp, celery, mushroom, sweet potato(not sure if I can remember more), definitely can fill you up. The fish was with bones on, so need to be careful when eating. Taste is quite good, not too salty. We had the tofu dish and octopus balls for appetizers. Both of them are actually quite good and recommended to try! Overall, reasonably good restaurant, recommended!

So this review, I must warn you, it’s not as perky as my usual reviews. I had hayfever and a possible cold on top of that so you May feel it in my review, but then it was a real experience. Not every dinner out is a celebration, sometimes it’s a necessary event. Food needs to be eaten along the way in our travels in life. And that’s what our trip to Zushi Bento kinda was. A necessary event, nice, but still necessary. We stopped in at Zushi Bento on our way home from a trip into Perth. We had no reservations and got a table for 3, no problems. We ordered 2 buffets and 1 off the menu dish. All the food was really delish…(when The flavours could get through my hay-fever affected pallet that is!) I mostly went for textures and crunch to combat all that. But at one point the heat from the Thai curry crept up on me so bad that I had to go eat a mini crème brûlée. It was weird though, because I somehow had to go eat 2 more. Anyhow, the bento box we ordered was very beautiful and really fresh and lovely looking with very generous portions of everything. The self serve(well I assume it was) Jasmine tea is really lovely and refreshing too. Oh ok, so a bit of a grumpy bit to add. There was only 2 pieces of tuna sushi on the buffet. That’s it. 2. Not really enough. And dare I say asking us to re– use plates. It’s actually just gross. Sorry. Ok, no more grumpy because they have heaps of sashimi in the sushi buffet which is beyond awesome according to my dear hubby! That’s all I got. Now, back to sneezing! Aaachoo. Sniff.

Zushi Bento isn’t a place I’d go out of the way for, but if you’re in the area and craving a good sushi feed, they’ll do you great! On Thursday nights, with a prebooking and voucher through their website, there’s a sizeable discount on the meal. They’ve got the space and the arrangement which are good for groups as well! Food wise, their soups are decent, and most of the dim sum items are pretty solid. The sushi(not special order, but just what they put out on the buffet) was nothing notable, but it was fine. They will let the buffet items run out and then take some time in refilling them if you’ve got a large party with you, but such is life! All in all, a decent place but there’s better sushi to be had ’round these parts!

Zushi Bento is probably one of the only Japanese Restaurants I’ve been to in Perth which is very modern and beautifully decorated. The Restaurant is decked out in dark wooden tables and with comfortable woven chairs, the counter/bar area is made out of red plexiglass which ties in well with the gorgeous orange glass lamps hanging down form the ceiling and they also have the traditional long wooden table where guests sit on special low chairs and can have a bit more privacy — perfect for large groups. The service is friendly and the food is well beyond amazing; I ordered the rainbow sushi which was a combination of salmon covered in avocado and rice and then covered in salmon again, the same for the tuna and the prawn. The dish was beautifully presented and decorated with both a spicy seafood sauce, Japanese mayonnaise and your regular serving of wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. The dish had six pieces which were quite large and well and truly enough for a meal. Great service, amazing food and beautiful décor, if you want a smarter Japanese dining experience try Zushi Bento.
