One of the best burgers that I’ve ever had, the Umami burger was tasety, juicy and big enough to make you feel full. Friendly staff, the place was beautiful with a great view of the beach…

Have to review my previously 5-stars comment of few months back due to the service getting slower and slower. These guys definition of «busy» is quite self-forgiving: we have been waiting for 30 minutes for brunch, pretty much like all tables around us. Also, some who arrived after us have already(just) got their food… Food still tastes awesome though…

Good food(the soufflé eggs were yummy) but waiting more than 30 minutes for eggs is not cool!

Perfect dine in restaurant for spring and summer as it has an amazing view of the beach. This place is on my top5 burger places because the umami burger is so good and juicy. They serve condiments along side the burger with fries. Such a great place for lunch. Definitely recommend this place if yiu just want to hang out on a nice day as they have outdoor seating. Quick service and friendly staff

Delicious Umami burger, one of the best burgers in Melbourne, lives up to its title. A limited but solid list of cold beers, friendly relaxed service. An awesome view — right on the beach. A little cool on a winter or windy day but some seating inside.

I love Nshry. The place is tiny but the menu is huge. Think Asian fusion. Specialty coffee. Great views. If you love the beach and enjoy eating you’ll like this place.

The nshry breakfast is a must. quite different and very yum!!! coffee??? hmmm don’t expect the best. The service was ok. got what we wanted without much of a wait. Wasn’t able to try the Umami burger during this visit as the breakfast had already hit the spot… anymore and I would have had to waddle out of there. The Umami is still on my hit list… Will return for the burger night.

This place is right on the beach. Great views of the sea and the pier. Much nicer in summer but we still go here in winter as the food is great. It’s quite pricey. Was $ 23 for the burger but it does come with a few sides.

My new favourite place for breakfast. Nshry serves some unique combinations and does so very prettily on Japanese style dishes with a gorgeous, albeit windy, view of the bay and pier. Whilst service can be slow and coffees may be forgotten, the quality of the food and the scenery is really why you are here. The summer fruit salad is stunning, the fruit is as fresh as can be and beautifully presented with a spoonful of yoghurt and some muesli. For something equally healthy and delicious but with a bit more oomph I recommend the breakfast plate which combines fruit salad, yoghurt and muesli along with toast and a 75:11 egg. That’s an egg cooked at 75 degrees(I assume Celsius) for 11 minutes. Essentially a very tasty soft boiled egg. If you are really hungry the Croque Monsieur or the Nshry Breakfast will easily set you up for the day ahead. Coffees, ice creams and fish and chips are available to be taken away, a perfect accompaniment for a stroll along the bay. There are also burger nights on Thursdays. Pooches are welcome to join you in the outdoor area. There is a doggy water bowl for their hydration needs. For their breaky may I suggest you reward them with a plate of Grandmother’s Ham.

The problem with hype is that it has a tendency to lead to more disappointment or criticism than you’d face had you just wondered in unaware. The boyfriend and I went here for the sole purpose of putting«Melbourne’s best burger» to the test. Don’t get me wrong, the Umami burger is sensational… but it led to hefty debate and listing about who really makes the best burger. The judgement kind of detracted from whether it was just good or not! The space is quite small and very popular, which can make it feel a little cramped. That aside, everything on the menu looked fantastic and it’s right on the beach. Great spot.

NSHRY, pronounced«Noshery» at the beach at Albert Park on Beaconsfield Parade lives up to the literal translation of the word«Nosh» — to eat food enthusiastically or greedily: «you can nosh to your heart’s content»; «noshing my favourite food». One of their specialities, the Umami Burger, is now one of my favourite foods. When it was a warm and sunny day last week, my only requirement for the afternoon was to get to the beach, enjoy some food, beer and conversation and take advantage of the first truly warm day in Melbourne since I moved here five months ago. As I had walked past NSHRY about fifty times en route to get coffee in St Kilda, this place stood out, along with Sandbar, as ideal locations to diddle the afternoon away in the sun. The restaurant has a contained outdoor area that is ideal for pleasant days. We arrived very close to noon with the intention of securing an outdoor table without a booking and managed to procure the last one. After a bottle of water and menus were delivered, we immediately ordered cider and beer, kicked back and enjoyed the day. After walking to the restaurant from Southbank via Bay Street, I had developed quite a thirst. I have read about the Umami Burger elsewhere and have only heard good things about it so I placed the order whilst I sucked back my second bottle of Beez Neez. Service remained consistent and attentive as we systematically polished off bottles of alcohol and they were quickly replaced along with freshly chilled glasses. The Umami Burger was amazing. I know in the past I have raved about the various offerings at Andrew’s Hamburgers, which is not far away from NSHRY as the crow flies and also what is served at Huxtaburger, but this wagyu burger was amazing. Not only the rich tastes of flesh that was prepared a perfect medium rare, but the bun, sweet and sumptuous like Jennifer Hawkin’s bum left me mesmerised. The chips and slaw that accompanied this act of perfection which was presented wonderfully encouraged me to break one of my cardinal rules and take a photo. I sent a tweet about it on the day and the photograph can be found here. Despite spending three hours outside at NSHRY, the server remained cheerful and very helpful. We never went dry or wanting and we were always made to feel as if it would be no problem if we hung out indefinitely. On another warm sunny day, I look forward to returning to NSHRY and given that we should experience at least a full season of sunny and warm days in the not too distant future, they will have to stock up on cases of Beez Neez to placate this hungry, thirsty and satisfied diner.

Very inviting and pretty space in a yuppie kind of way– which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The food earns a solid 4 stars for dinner. We shared three tapas: *fish curry(bright, well-plated and slightly spicy sweet curry) *wagyu beef(served with a tomato salsa and cilantro, perfectly cooked) *tempura vegetables(served piping hot, crisp with two types of aioli and fish sauce) The service and loos are another story all together! They bring it down to 2 stars, which pains me a bit to do. *the only facilities are the public ones about 6 meters away from the restaurant, and let’s just say your Mum hasn’t visited in a while to pick the place up *the time to deliver our tapas selection was painful, considering we were the third table to be sat for the evening(read 25+ minutes) *service was almost non-existent. If this lovely little nook of a place can get its act together from a service perspective, and sort things out with the facilities it’s a total winner. If you go, visit the loo beforehand, don’t drink too much water(or maybe bring those adult nappy things with you if you’re in a pinch) and expect some really nice plates of food– when it eventually arrives!

Me and the camera-wielding boy made it to recently opened Nshry in Albert Park this weekend — a brave venture from a group of unknowns(excuse the food snob in me) currently serving an all-day breakfast/brunch menu with plans for ‘modern Australian’ lunch and dinner menus as soon as they find a chef. That’s right, at the moment the guy in the kitchen is actually owner Michael Nam. And he is doing a pretty good job with a safe menu featuring chilli eggs and eggs benedict — we went for the croque madame, which was tasty and filling with a roasted tomato on the side keeping things not too dry. Could be a food snob again and say that I would have liked to have known where the ham was from(plus I’m afraid the bread was more supermarket than artisan bakery) — and whether the cheese was actually Gruyère — it didn’t really have that distinctive nutty taste, so I am not sure. On the whole though, a good effort — but the price is a little ambitious at this stage of the game. As for location, it is sat at the end of Kerferd Road Pier, walking distance from Albert Park and right on the sand with lots of outdoor decking space. Will be interesting therefore to see how this fledgling place fairs through winter. Wooden accents throughout lend a modern beach shack kind of feel to the place, staff are friendly and there is a mix of individual and communal tables. Coffee is from Campos, let’s hope the siphon gets put to use soon. Beers on tap are Asahi and Stella(shame). I kind of think these two things sum it up for me — high aspirations but not quite achieving them at the moment. However, definitely one to watch. P. S. They serve ice cream too!

Recently opened, this über funky café sits right on the water, with big beautiful windows to look out onto the bay. The interior is super chic, with an awesome wooden«stalactite» ceiling. I’d heard a lot of hype about the burgers here, but decided to come and try out their breakfast with some friends. The corn and zucchini fritters in panko crumbs were amazing — properly fried and crispy. We all remarked that it was lovely to have a fritter with such nice texture, as often corn fritters at cafes are barely pan fried. Coffee is excellent, and the service is fairly on point. Two moments of weirdness: asking for Tabasco(which is advertised on the menu) and getting it in a little dipping bowl instead of a bottle(um, have you ever dipped something in Tabasco? a little much). Plus, their bacon was listed on the menu as «kaiser fleisch bacon». We were interested if this was a cut, or a brand, and so asked the waitress. Here’s how the conversation went: Me: «What exactly is kaiserfleisch bacon?» Waitress: «Um, i dunno, i mean, they told me but I forgot, let me go ask»…*goes and asks* … «oh, it’s like, um, it’s just from the belly» Me and the other diners think internally«um, yeah but so is all bacon?». Seeing she didn’t really answer our question, or understand it herself, we just smiled politely and said thanks. But really, if you’re going to put something on the menu like that to make it super fancy and a point of difference, have your staff be able to back it up.
