An incidental trip to Albert park had me thinking two things: Should I use the opportunity to check out Andrews Burgers, and could I also fit in a trip to Jocks Icecream? In the end the burgers won out. I tried the Rusty American(beef) and some chips. There is a lot of hype surrounding this place, but at the end of the day, it is more like you local chippie, except all they do is the burgers. The place was packed and running like a well oiled machine. With a projected 25 minute wait, I had plenty of time to observe the Andrews burger gang in action. The bun toaster, the grillmaster, the chip fryer, the order assembler, all flat out and never missing a beat. I watched my burger be assembled, and then took it outside to enjoy. The main gripe was, in the few minutes it took to sit down and unwrap my burger bounty, the bun had disintegrated into mush. This is not cool. While it was a decent burger, the bun thing kinda ruined the experience. Combined with standard order chips, the overall experience was basically like any decent fish and chip shop burger should be, but not really anything more.

Really fantastic burgers, decently priced. Quality ingredients are used and I have no issues with the burgers. I’d still come here on a regular basis. The beef burger was really succulent and tender.

As we don’t leave home(the cbd) much whenever we do go out I like to try new places in the area to the destination. I’ve heard of Andrews’ Hamburgers at Albert Park, but then I picture it being lake side, which it is not. Instead it’s on a strip in a suburb called Albert Park, with a tram that goes through it ending at South Melb Beach. We had a burger, the American of course: P It was good but nothing amazing while the bread bun reminded me of the 6pks at the supermarkets. Potato cake and chips were of the standard fish and chip store variety. It’s very different from all the trendy burger places that rely on theme or $ 8 milkshakes to get the customers through the door. Just plain ordinary burgers for locals is how I’d sum up. The service was very good and there were a few tables outside. Best to order over the phone to skip the q. I don’t understand the hype — unless you’ve comparing it to local fish & chip shop places that do burgers, because their burgers don’t seem that good. But being in the city there’s a burger place on every block.

Short menu, no frills burgers. For those who like a good burger without fancy ingredients like me, this is the right place. I ordered the Sanchez Mexican and it was really nice with nice a kick from the chilli sauce. Chips were similar to fish and chips shops, which I enjoy.

I flew in from San Francisco to New Zealand to port Melbourne exhausted, hungry, annoyed and hot. After loading all my luggage into the motor vechicke and removing the layers of clothing, uncle Ben(who lives in Australia) asks me what I would like to eat. So I immediately answer«I want a fat juicy burger with fries and a diet coke.» Uncle Ben: «really?» Me: «yup, I’m a glad who knows exactly what she wants so stop asking questions and take me to the best burger joint!» Uncle Ben: «okay mate! You got it.» We pull up to Andrews Hamburgers and the owner himself greets us and assists us with our order. I was astonished with the size of the burger and thought to myself there is no way I’m going to be able to finish this! With a blink of an eye the burger was gone! Two words for the food orgasmic experience: Fucking amazing!(Please excuse my French)

Review incomplete* Med! I don’t get what all the fuss is about. The burgers are pretty standard, similar to something you can whip up at home. Really messy to eat, definitely not pretty to look at. I reckon buns are what make a burger and these buns are pretty ordinary. Fillings aren’t inspiring either. It’s a typical fish and chip burger. Cash only place, which is pretty annoying

As somewhat of a burger connoisseur, this is hands down one of the best ‘Aussie/Milk Bar’ style burger you will find. Up there with Paul’s Hamburgers from Sydney.

This place rocks. Staff, food, vibe and service are great! Have had the regular cheese burger, the Lot and the Sanchez — not all at once mind you ;-) ! By far and above the best burger restaurant in Melbourne, and on a recent trip to San Fran, nothing came close! Outdoor seating is a great addition too!

Really great burger, it isn’t close to my work. but worth a tram ride for an excellent burger. Nothing fancy just great patties and fresh ingredients.

Not only are the burgers fantastic — the perfect combo of meat and melted cheese but the staff are amazing! This afternoon they remembered that I talked about adding pickles to the burgers the last time I was there(about a month ago). Even I forgot I mentioned the pickles. Simply awesome!

Everyone knows it’s still the best burger in Melbourne! Nothing even comes close. The steamed dim sims are a good option while you wait.

I seriously did not get the hype! Its the same stuff you get at the local fish n chip shop. Though it is well made though. But nothing outstanding — aside from the fact that it is well sized! And its best to take away at this place. There’s only room for about 4 people to sit at a small bar to eat inside.

Bad day at work? Eat your feelings here. Get the burger with the lot and if you’ve had a really bad day, some chips too. But of course, you’ll need to walk it off. So when your done, take a stroll down Victoria Avenue to Jock’s Icecream for dessert.

Hands down the BEST hamburger in Melbourne. Not to be confused with new age burger joints jumping on the American bandwagon this is a traditional Aussie burger that never disappoints. Andrews is a must but be warned this place gets busy. It is worth going when this place is packed to see the staff bombing out hundreds of burgers with ease. For those not keen to wait make the most of ordering via the phone.

Great burgers, extremely worthy of the hype. It’s interesting to think how they may be now considered ‘niche’ in terms of delivering an old school burger with the lot(think fish and chip style), when compared to the newer burger specialists popping all over the place with the American style of burgers. These guys just use quality fresh ingredients, crunchy chips that taste like they’re twice fried, served up with forever cheery service. I’ve been eating at Andrew’s for a number of years now, and very little has changed. Ultimately, making it a very good thing.

GOOOOOOOOOD Burgers. This place has a lot of hype and it certainly lived up to it. They were pumping out burgers as we walked through the door, with a mass of people waiting outside for theirs — good signs. Definitely the best ‘fish n chip’ style hamburger I have ever tasted, the actually meat patty is what makes it — juicy and tasty. Not gourmet, but if you like good hearty Aussie burgers, this joint is the place!

It makes me sad to give Andrew’s Hamburgers a ‘meh’ review, but I made sure to sample their burgers a number of times before coming to the conclusion that they didn’t rock my socks. They are a very solid fish and chip shop style burger place. Perhaps that’s why it didn’t live up to the hype for me, having grown up in the country eating tuckshop burgers. The burgers did evoke childhood memories of sitting in the sun with a burger and a can of Coke, though! Overall, however, I think there are many more interesting burger joints in Melbourne.

The ultimate hangover hamburger. When you need a homemade hamburger, that you haven’t had to fire up the barbie for and let’s face it who can be bothered cooking with a hangover(or anytime really), you head straight to Andrew’s. My burger must always have beetroot and be accompanied by hot chips with a crisp exterior and fluffy insides. A word to the wise, phone in your order and then pick it up. Unless of course you prefer to squish into the shop for 30 minutes with half of Melbourne drooling over the goodness frying on the grill praying that your name is called next. I do not have the strength for such torture. Instead I have been known to pop across the road to the Albert Park Hotel for a quick splash of something while my big, juicy, meaty, heart starter is getting ready to come home with me. Despite Andrew’s old school charm this little shop is sensitive to the needs of the coeliacs and vegetarians amongst us and offers gluten free buns and veggie burgers. If you are coming from out of town, call first as Andrew’s does close on certain days and is usually closed for a whole month over summer.

Old-fashioned burger. Bar seating. Aussie-celebs on the walls. Sizzling grills. A working-man’s burger.

Pretty darn good. But one also feels slightly guilty after coming eating here; the burgers sometimes bring on near heart attacks; they’re pretty solid and rich. I first ate at Andrew’s In 1995! Yes that’s right, 17 years ago. Back then cheese burgers were like $ 3. But I can’t actually remember exactly. Now they’re $ 7.50 or so. This was when ‘Andrew’ himself was serving. He was great and served with warmth. He made the place worth going back. The area was a large Greek community then. The space itself is pretty much the same as it was back then; that little room out back, only a few seats and the same layout. So I’ve been a fan since a young lad.(The old coke bottle collection springs to mind.) Over the years, the younger generations have come in; Greg now runs the show, and new cooking equipment at one point. Prices have increased, but it’s still the same burger. The recipe has remained the same. The taste of of a 2012 burger is the same as 1995 one. People say the burgers are pricey, it is true, but then so is Grilled, and that’s nothing too crash hot. This is a bonafide local’s favourite, and visitor’s too; there’s always streams of people in and out the door, some times even taking boxes– as multiple lunches for the office have been ordered. Tradies, families, students, couples, mates, and mostly anyone else has been through these doors at some point. My favourite is the cheeseburger which i always get, keep it simple, keep it tasty. I’ve“ve also strayed into the snacks menu, and souvlaki’s which were pretty good from memory. If you’re a regular, they remember you and your order. Generally you have to wait a while for the order, but generally, it’s really busy. Minimum chips should do you well for a serving size. Back in the day you could also most fill an entire backpack with the largest serve.
