This was one of my regular afterwork haunts in the days when I lived in Adelaide and I must say that this pub brings back some fond memories — especially when one of my favourite footballers was serving beer(and paying for it as well). We would also regularly come here for work lunches, so ended up becoming somewhat familiar with the menu(though I pretty much always ended up ordering the schnitzel). Okay, it does get quite crowded on a Friday night because it is a popular after work pub, but we always managed to find a place to sit. They do have a small beer garden out the back, though that does become a little crowded on a Friday night.

Been to the Wakefield twice now. The first time, I just chose it at random, but the Schnitzel was pretty good(they have a special on Tuesdays), and the beer cold and crisp. The music and ambience was fine, not crowded, but not desolate either. The second time, I went there because of the good memories of this place. Had a meatball sub and found that it was fantastic. The fare at this place seems to be typical of any other pub around the CBD, however quality seems to be above average. Staff are friendly, place is awesome, and the manager has fantastic taste in music(IMO). I have become a fan.

Monday night food is the best. Standarda are low because normally you’re desperate for food due to your own laziness. We were parked next to the kitchen door which meant it was all a little breezy on a stormy night but none the less it was time to eat! I ordered an eggplant parmi dish. It was decent– the water cress salad was a little scant but the eggplant was tasty as hell! On the table there was also some steak with yummy broc and a chicken parmi. More chips were required due to low amounts on the parmi plate but otherwise the food was alright for our hungry bunch. Averagely priced… not cheap but not exy. The wine helped ease my fear of the storm and Amy our lovely waitress offered fun banter. I think okay is the word for this place. Not bad but my mind was not blown.

Before I begin, let me declare that I’ve the remarkable ability to attract trouble. I’m not a blender. And when I say blender, I speak not of the kitchen appliance. I mean I don’t blend well into my surroundings. I’ve got red hair which reflects light(natural or man-made) and shines like a lighthouse beacon; I’ve got a peculiar posture, which lends me a peculiar style of walk; and, I don’t know, I’m sure there must be other things. I attract attention, which, in turn, seems to land me in trouble. I was dining at Wakefield Hotel with two friends when an American fellow came up and decided he ought to start talking to us. Now, I can’t know for sure he was drunk, but he certainly appeared to be. Also, there was a glass of beer in his hand, and he was waving it around like a flag at the Olympics. I like to make fun of people like this. It makes me friends laugh, and usually the person at whose expense they’re laughing doesn’t understand the insults I’m giving him. And, really, I’m still not convinced he understood any of my jokes. I just think he decided to take offense to me for no good reason. Regardless, after a bit of… innocent redheads getting drinks spilled on them by drunk Americans, the staff of the Wakefield Hotel came to my rescue(though I could have totally handled it myself, if I wanted to). They escorted the fellow to a sign, which said that drinkers must remain seated. He apologised to everyone. Everyone. And then retook his seat. Also, I had some pasta. It wasn’t cheap, but it tasted okay.
