Attended a wedding at the Jade Monkey. Awesome venue, plenty of seating options to cater for everyone; perfect sized dance floor, great outdoor area(even better with fairy lights) and funky couches in the bar area. Great drinks with attentive and experienced bar staff — couldn’t fault a thing!

Jade Monkey is going to be a great hub for live *stuff * in Adelaide. The performance venue fitted around 110 people with a mix of seated and standing. The main area I front of the stage is sunken, so plenty of room for dancing, or for the people around the edge to See over. An ample size stage for bands and choirs, and a huge greenroom area upstairs, that doesn’t have you clambering over audience and ruining any costuming surprises. The inhouse PA is a pretty sweet inhouse system. A roof mounted projector makes for showing your slides and videos while you take up all the stage without making all the shadows too! Out in the bar side, the cracking fire and comfy couches while you knock back one of the beers from the local selection and munch down on some tasty snacks, and maybe if you’re in for a bit of nostalgia, play a round or three on the pinball machine.

I had never visited the Jade Monkey in its original locale in Twin Street prior to its demolition because I don’t get out much at night these days. However, I followed with interest the fight to save it and the resulting push for changes to the liquor licensing laws, allowing smaller bars and venues to open without the draconian requirements around music and alcohol. They may have lost the battle but I do believe they won the war. The new location in «the old St Pauls/Heaven» depending on your age, is an elegantly faded bar and band room decorated in Tiffany blue with cute retro touches like school stools, HobbyTex paintings and mismatched pendant lighting above the bar. I was involved in a wedding that had their post-ceremony drinks and reception here a week apart. The first week, we enjoyed the open fires, the second week was 30 degrees so the large outside garden area was well utilised. Drinks are served with cute coloured paper straws and the staff are obliging and friendly. This is a charming and relaxed venue in an under-utilised part of the city so manages to avoid a lot of the stumble-in riff-raff.

Great feel about the place. Cute, friendly staff and a wood heater to get you through the winter! Fresh and funky décor with a great outdoor garden area perfect for the warmer months. I wandered in on a Friday night with friends to hear a couple of local bands play. Great indoor space. All in all, I had a great night. Will definitely be back. In fact, it may be my new fav!

There’s nothing jaded about this monkey. Cosy, welcoming and full of character, it’s a great place to start with an after-work drink, or to settle in for the whole evening. Two magnificent open fires, cosy lounges as well as big tables for groups, makes it versatile for any situation and perfect for a cold winter’s night. They have a few gourmet pies on the menu, including chicken korma and cheese kransky and what I thought was a massive vat of soup. Turns out it was spiced rum! My kind of soup. The service is attentive and very friendly. There are only 2 red wines available by the glass, so it’s not an extensive wine selection, but they are very nice wines, so I’m not complaining! I haven’t seen a band here yet, but I look forward to that treat soon. It looks like it would be a magnificent place in summer sitting outside under the fairy lights, so I look forward to that too. Meanwhile, I’m very happy for it to be winter as I can’t get enough of those gorgeous open fires!
