I tried Pad Thai Gai(chicken) which is my favourite Thai meal. Unfortunately, it did not meet expectations. It was not as tasty as normally, probably also because the eggs, tofu and chicken were slightly burned… Were there any peanuts? Did not see or taste them. Perfect place to go in case you are hungry, but definitely not in case you want to enjoy Pad Thai Gai. May need another try.

BESTFOODEVER! I came here on Valentine’s Day, so it was obviously very busy. However the service stayed very consistent, and they were all so so incredibly friendly. The food came out promptly and I ordered the satay chicken and the soft shelled crab as the entrée. The soft shelled crab was incredible and so so delicious! Definitely my favourite. For the mains I ordered the choo chi prawn and panda chicken. They were both amazing dishes, I highly recommend coming here. Had the most amazing experience.

Great food, pleasant setting, but I really want to compliment the service; all staff were on the ball all throughout the meal, with water glasses, wine and food. Efficient but never intrusive. Better performance than I’ve had recently at some«fine dining» restaurants. Definitely recommended.

The food is delicious. The service is fast, efficient and friendly, even though it was very busy on the Thursday night I was there. I particularly enjoyed the Pla(entrée) and the Thai Iced Tea with milk. Oh, and leave room for dessert, you won’t be disappointed.(No pictures because everyone ate it too quickly, haha)

Fast, solid, quality food and service. Staff serves you every dish and are incredibly nice despite being incredibly busy. Great stir fry dishes. Milk tea is awesome! Affordable spot too.

Smaller menu than most Thai places but every dish is a winner. Enjoyed the masaman beef

Very busy on a Thursday lunchtime, glad we had reserved a table in advance. Service was still quick and the Masaman Beef Curry was superb. Alcohol was expensive but this is a prime city location after all. We will be back.

Hi Unilocalers, it’s been a while! This is not a review per se, rather more a commentary on this restaurant. A work colleague is leaving work and wants to have her farewell dinner at Star of Siam. The word goes around and people line up to go. On making a booking, organisers are told that we must choose from a very limited menu(5 entrees, 5 mains) and it will be a minimum charge of $ 35! On checking their extensive a la carte menu, the prices are considerably cheaper for most entrée/main combinations. My question is this — is it just me who feels that Star of Siam is being unreasonable in forcing a very limited menu on us and charging a premium for the privilege?

A seriously long wait, but the food made up for it. Lucky! Great staff, non your usual don’t-give-a-shit Gouger Street restaurant service. It was absolutely packed on a wednesday night and with the Tour, we’re lucky we booked.

Incredibly busy but fast service and delicious food seems to be the trade mark of this place. I had read a review that the Pad-Thai was the«best ever» and had a bit of a craving so I thought I would give it a go. It was pretty awesome but not ‘the best’ — that title is still held by my Mum’s Pad Thai which is absolutely awesome– but this one came close. My friend ordered a vegetarian dish with a peanut sauce that was absolutely divine– so tasty with just a hint of spice, with delicious fresh, crispy veggie– just what we needed after binging on Christmas goodies for the past few days! The service was speedy and the waiters friendly and incredibly accommodating throughout the mean however when it came time to pay they took ages to come back and take our money– but I guess they were just busy! That would be my only fault, otherwise great all round!

I’ve been to Star Of Siam a few times, and it’s always a great experience! Tuesday night was incredibly busy(though that could have been because it was Melbourne Cup day), but we still managed to find a table for two. I have to say I experienced the best Pad-Thai EVER! Completely amazing, came out quickly, and the staff were very friendly. Good selection of wine makes this place a winner. Yes, sometimes the staff can be on the abrupt side, but they’re never rude. In fact, I think the service is getting better and better. I look forward to sampling more of the menu … but I get the feeling I’m going to keep ordering the Pad Thai ;)

Food was excellent — fresh, authentic and well prepared, with efficient service. Its really about the food rather than the ambience. Sit outside if the weather is good.

I’ve never had a bad experience at the Star of Siam. Having said that, I have never had an extraordinary one either. Food is always good, though a little pricey. Service is always impeccable. I recommend the place. ++++VEGANFRIENDLINESS — Plenty of options!++++

The Star of Siam is certainly one of Adelaide’s better Thai restaurants. Why, you may ask? Because the food is excellent. Rarely have I been to a Thai restaurant in this city and been pleased with every dish that I’ve received. Star of Siam, on the other hand, aims to please. The pad thai is an obvious choice, but is simple and delicious. Laksa is also a great option in the cold weather, but I can eat the stuff in any sort of weather. As some of the others have said, the service is a little bit ruthless. This is especially so when the restaurant gets crowded, but they are really friendly if the conditions permit. Of course, good service should be a constant in the hospitality industry, so they may have to work on that.

As far of the quality of restaurants along the Food Mecca that is Gouger St, this classy Thai place is up there with some of the best for quality and price. Last time I was there was with a group of five which allowed us to sample a wide range of menu items, to try a little bit of everything. The soft shell crab and garlic and lemon pork were definite highlights, as were the crab cakes. The décor is surprisingly very modern and although not traditionally Thai at all, brings a nice fusion of the modern against the traditional nature of the menu. There is seating inside and out, and a plenty of heating if you chose to sit outside to combat against the South Australia winters. The service is quite quick, but make sure you ring ahead and book a table if you are expecting a bigger group or you might be disappointed.

The Star of Siam is one of the hundreds of Asian restaurants along Gouger St. I am very picky when heading down to eat along Gouger, preferring to stick to my favourites, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the Star of Siam. It is a small restaurant; there are very few tables so definitely book. This is extremely important on a Friday night, when every restaurant along the street is packed. The food was amazing. I had salt and pepper tofu, which was perfect. Their padthai and vegetables with peanut sauce definitely must be tried as well. Although the restaurant was packed when we were there the food came out very quickly. The service was helpful and friendly, not usually something you find at the Gouger Street restaurants. They also have quite a large range of beers and wines, which are very reasonably priced. Me, being cheap, decided to purchase a carafe of their house white for $ 9. It is the worst wine I have ever drunk, so maybe stay away from this!

The food here is good. That’s pretty much undeniable. If I was grading this place on food, I’d give it four stars, possibly even five if I was feeling generous. But as a whole, the place lets itself down in terms of service, which I’ve found to be a bit abrupt and not particularly friendly. I’d call it civil at best, possibly almost hostile to some customers I’ve witnessed. But the food, it’s beautiful. I might have just been on a bad night. I’ve got a couple of other really good Thai options that I go to, so not going back here isn’t a big loss to me.

This Thai place is another hotspot that you might have to wait around for a table, or reserve one well before dining. I was never without a gush of water coming from the waiter’s constant refilling. This impressed me, those little touches of service always make me smile. All I think about is the delicious duck pieces, tender and boneless. The salt and pepper soft shell are also fantastic and flavoursome.

Three cheers for Thai food and three cheers for Star of Siam. Just don’t get on the staffs bad side, because the managers don’t look too happy. Serving authentic Thai food, Star of Siam has quite immense popularity and is the best place down the Gouger strip to drench yourself in delectable coconut milk, well not literally. The food here taste great and comes out pretty quickly. The thing is, you know the soup nazi form Seinfeld? This place is kind of like that but in restaurant style, and also Asian. To be honest I kind of find it amusing. If I had any recommendations it would be the laksa, and it is probably best to go here with at most a small sized group of friends, all of whom can decide on what they want to order promto. Unfortunately families might find it a little difficult to dine here if they have young children.
