I have been waiting for a while to check this place out. People really rave about it. I finally had a chance when I knew I needed a quick meal before meeting a bunch of friends. The set up of the store is pretty fast food chain looking. Nothing special. But, there are lots of tables, so a good place for small groups. There are a lot of items on the menu, take your time in choosing. I went for the Chicken Kim chi option. They also offer it with cheese. I went without. One thing to note is not a lot of menu items have many veggies. You might be able to ask for extra veggies. I am not sure, and probably should have asked. The meal itself was ok. It was kind of like chicken with a chilli fermented sauce. Kim chi and corn where the only accompaniments. If I could add some other veggies I think I would have liked it more. The sauce was not that flavorsome either. I found myself adding some of Garlic Soy and seasoning available on the table to kind of season it better. Maybe that is the idea of those sauces though? Maybe I just got the wrong dish, it did not impress me. I am still willing though to try another dish. So the idea is you kind of cook the meal yourself, which I think is a fun way to dine. The meals are also cheap, so that is a bonus.

This place is great. I have been here a few times and am never, ever disappointed. Their stone cooked meats and meals are to(figuratively) die for. I am a big lover of their pepper steaks(Oh snap isn’t that in the name of their restaurant!) and large pepper meals. They suggest to taste it before adding anything extra, but I cannot help myself. I always ask for two lots of extra butter, and some cheese. How do they make such a simple thing like butter taste so amazing? Their garlic sauce that rests on the table, I don’t know about anyone else, but I pour that onto my food like there’s no tomorrow. Never enough garlic, ever. Even taking the meal home and reheating it on the stove-top it is amazing, and with my small stomach a foods re-heat-ability is a big bonus in my books. The place itself can get a little crowded, and during their busier times it can be harder to move around. The noise level is also quite loud, so don’t expect to go here for a quiet date or to get away from the hustle and bustle of Gouger Street. The service is quick and easy. What stops this from getting 5 stars? Their bathroom. To go to the bathroom you have to sneak past the kitchen, outside down a small ally then enter into a small bathroom with a flimsy lock. I felt like I was in some sort of cult classic indie movie en route to the bathroom. Everything else is fab as! Keep up the good work Pepper Lunch.

Big fan of Pepper Lunch even before I moved to Adelaide. Serving size is the same as in other countries. The front of house girl could use a little bit of smiling. Not friendly.

Enjoyed the food many times here. Service is quick and the food tastes great. They have a great variety and lots of different food to try. Only complain is the music was so loud in a congested area. It was noisy and not much room inside the restaurant.

I wanted to grab a bite at a quiet but calming environment. I passed by Pepper Lunch and decided to try it out. However, the restaurant was noisy and congested with hardly any room to move about. The food was excellent though; loved the concept. A little less MSG would be great. However, I would definitely eat at Pepper Lunch again!

Pepper lunch indeed! If you don’t like really peppery, spicy, hot food, don’t come here! The food is cooked in a very hot dish(supposedly 260 degrees) and you mix it up yourself. Not exactly like stone grill, as it’s mostly already cooked, but more like szechuan. I had the kimchi beef with an extra egg, and cost about $ 12. Not too bad for lunch prices. The place is packed and people are stuffed into a small room with strange love songs playing. I was surprised I didn’t hear wind beneath my wings. What? The menu resembles something from maccas as well. I would have liked to have given this place a better review but the food was too spicy for my liking. Might have to come back and try something cooler next time.

Just like everyone else I am just as excited about Pepper Lunch finally establishing a spot here in Adelaide. The idea of cooking your meal right in front of you is a concept that I’ve always been fond of whether it was Korean BBQ, stone grill, etc. It’s just so fun! Basically the raw meat and/or veggies with rice and other seasonings are on a 260 degree Celsius hot plate and the customer has to cook mix and cook the food on the plate in front of them. The meat can be cooked well done, medium-rare, rare etc. depending on the customer’s preference. For the price the portions are reasonable. Don’t expect to come in and come out with a full a stomach because if anything for most people the average portion size here would be more like a light lunch rather than a full-blown meal. I highly recommend the original beef dish and the kim chi beef for those who want bit more of a flavour and spice kick. Add an extra egg(or two) or even tasty cheese on top on your dish for an additional cost! I saw on the menu boards they even have pasta here; something which I have not yet tried. Give this place a go for something a little different for lunch or dinner. It’s one of those restaurants you come in for quick meal and leave within half an hour. I highly recommend!
