Wow! I took my daughter here for breakfast after some friends told me I would love it. They weren’t wrong, amazing décor, atmosphere. Trendy little nook, my favourite coffee and breakfast place since moving to Adelaide in March. You have to try the poachie, yum!!!

Excellent chilled-out vibe and I love their lush garden. I had a beautiful brekkie this morning of avocado, poached eggs and amazing haloumi. Brilliant summer spot.

I’ve been to Café Troppo a few times now. The first was on Bike 2 Eat week in 2014, and I have been back a few times and never been disappointed. I have been for coffee, breakfast and some after work drinks. Each experience has been different and excellent. The vibe here for brekky is very chilled, with a whole range of people stopping by for coffee or food. For breakfast there is an excellent range of vegetarian breakfasts! This makes choosing hard with options ranging from fancy eggs on toast to a fantastic breakfast pizza! Yes Pizza ! for breakfast. It was actually strangely healthy with a spelt base. I would recommend giving this one a try soon, as it is listed as a ‘Spring Special’ and may not be around for long. My partner had the eggs and avo, the eggs were poached well, and they were generous with the Avocado. Which is a must. To be stingy with avocado is really uncool/dare I say Un-Australian. The coffee here is great, I had an almond milk latte and it was delicious! I love when places offer more than just soy as a non dairy beverage. The mark up on the almond milk also wasn’t too bad! The vibe here after hours is still laid back, but with a side of local jazz. The drinks also switch from hipster lattes to local beers on tap(changes regularly) and a great range of SA wines. They really focus on good quality SA produce at Café Troppo which is awesome, and the prices aren’t too bad considering the quality and thought that has gone into everything here. And I mean they really have put thought into everything being sustainable and environmentally friendly, right down to enviro-friendly hand wash and an absence of paper towels that ravage rainforests. A+ Hippy Marks for this place. And the taste is definitely not hindered by the thought they have put into their business, if anything it is enhanced! I think this is now my new go to for almond lattes, now that the House of Donkey has sadly disappeared.

Decided to try this place out with a colleague visiting from interstate. We were both pleasantly surprised and liked the feeling of the café. The food looked good but we only had coffee. The coffee was good and a decent size. The atmosphere is eclectic and funky and is convenient as in quieter part of city with easy parking around. There is indoor and outdoor seating with low and high tables.

I don’t think«my» Paddy’s will ever be replaced, but every so often, I drop by Café Troppo just to mix it up a little for a work day lunch. I still think Paddy’s makes the best coffee this side of the city, but when I am after some vego nourishment, Café Troppo ticks the boxes for me. As with Paddy’s, Troppo champions local SA produce. I love their daily salads, and the portion is very generous. You can order half-and-half if you want to try both salads of the day. They also offer small pizzas and wraps(all under $ 10), even one with ‘roo. So meat eaters are not neglected. Their sweets are guilt free(that’s what I tell myself anyway…) e.g. no added sugar or gf, that sort of thing. Coffee has been ok, but Paddy’s cannot be usurp on that front! In warmer seasons, Fri and Sat late arvo(from 3pm) the café becomes a bar of sorts, with live music in the evening. This spring, it’s natural wines on offer from rockstar Hills winemakers. They also have beer on tap. Vibe is welcoming, rustic and(dare I say it?) hipster. But don’t let the latter deter you because it seems authentic. On a sunny day, you can soak in the sunshine in the window seats or dine alfresco. And you gotta love the ethics of this café — there is a reminder to reduce food wastage, so if you are not going to eat the side of bread that comes with the salad, let them know and they won’t add it on.

First breakfast living in Adelaide and this place did not disappoint! Sardines on crusty bread was divine! My husband had an omelet and he enjoyed it very much. Defiantly coming back here again and it’s so close to our townhouse they have Gluten free bread also

Décor: primitive rustic with lots of hessian, chunky wood & exposed ceiling pipes covered in old building plans! Large bags of oranges under the front counter add colour and interest as do lots of plants and flowers both inside, and out on the corner, sunny Al fresco area. Customers can choose between high tables and stools or lower table and chairs. Fair trade & organic origin coffee, with fresh food are on offer, cakes and pastries displayed, with both lunch and breakfast menus available. A large range of drinks including alcoholic & beers on tap to accompany. Thursday & Friday Tapas are served. Very popular as the Café opens out to take over the street corner, with a tidy reserve across the street. Stopped and had a coffee at Café Troppo, enjoyed an organic Colombian coffee, roasted locally, by De Groot Coffee Company. Relaxing ambience, free paper and wifi,

Finally got the chance to come back and give this place another go, wasn’t disappointed! I ordered the special of the day which was a delicious parsnip and barley salad with a smattering of spinach; large portion and great flavors! My partner in crime got to try the roo sandwich which was delicious and worth the wait. Small nuances like forgetting our order and the bathrooms both being mysteriously unused but locked were a bit of a pain but the food made up for it. Coffees were great and loved the stevia drops, that’s a first! The outside area is gorgeous and had outdoor heaters which will be a godsend in winter. The staff are so lovely, definetly a nice spot in town to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Pro-tip: Bring in a bag of fruits or a bag of something they can use in the store, and trade for a free coffee! Ask staff about this! Warning: Do not attempt to sneak in and steal a vacant seat a head of the cue without greeting the staff — there is often people semi-sitting or standing elsewhere waiting for a table to be free — and its awkward if you are then kindly being asked to move(not from experience, but from observation!). Warning: avoid black pants — especially if sitting on sackcloth causes you to collect particles of sackcloth on said black pants! Facts: quirky, quaint, cosy, energetic, cool café. Its location means it can be quite moody-dark inside in the mornings, but in summer, the cool factor of that dimly lit place is exactly what you want. There’s vine covered outdoor areas, cellar-feeling inside areas — with bar seats, small seats, and backless lounges to choose from. Great ranges of pastries, nibbles, juices, bubbly drinks and of course, excellent coffee. There is a great flow of people who work here, and you will love the time you get to spend there. Just, keep an eye out for the ever growing groups of people loitering around looking at you, wondering if you are leaving soon!

Stopped in for a Saturday brunch and this place was awesome. As soon as you enter, you know it’s going to be good. The staff were extremely were friendly, and the décor looks great. It feels warm and friendly, and smells delicious. We ended up getting a breaky pizza and mushroom focaccia. Although I can’t give you a first hand description of the focaccia as my lady friend destroyed it, the breaky pizza was the bomb jiggy funk. Bacon, rocket, red sauce, perfect base and topped with a poached egg. I am pretty sure I licked the plate clean! Also, the coffee was sooo good, not to be overlooked! Two thumbs up!

Great little cool casual café with a nice breakfast selection. I had the GF nut bread breakfast special and loved it! They have free wifi too and the music selection was cool. Highly recommend, go solo or with a friend.

Holy hipster, this place is aesthetically pleasing. A beautiful garden outside, wooden interiors; a gorgeous grungey/natural vibe(yep, totally a thing). We sat outside in the sunshine and it was just so damn pleasant. The service was really good — super friendly and quick. The food was amazing and had some interesting options — something all regular breakfast-goers appreciate, I’m sure. I had the«Fancy Green Toast» which included asparagus, local haloumi, toasted almonds, and spinach on sourdough; incredibly tasty! Unfortunately, I’m not quite on board with the coffee they served that morning — my almond milk latte was not great(it’s my fault — I assumed the milk would have been the newest froth-friendly version, but it was just plain old almond milk and so it separated), so I followed up with a soy latte afterwards which was just alright. All in all though, I’m incredibly happy with our dining experience! The price was right, the place was gorgeous, and the food was tasty. We’d just arrived from our 6am flight and this could not have been a better Welcome Home to Adelaide.

This funky place was packed for Brekky early Saturday morning.(Short wait for a table) The service(order at the counter) was friendly and prompt. The coffee was great and the perfectly poached eggs with grilled mushies was delish. It was a FREEZING cold morning but the Troppo staff had lovingly lit up a number of gas heaters in the outdoor area out front which managed to take the chill off. Whitmore square is an interesting place filled with some interesting(but harmless) characters so it’s probably not the best place to take any snooty friends or family. Love the organic décor feel. Plenty of ticketed street parking too.

Café Troppo has a very hipster-ish vibe going on in the décor and the food on offer, which adds to the experience a great deal. I’ve only been the one time, and had a prosciutto pizza with freshly squeezed orange juice — both were exceptional. The pizza base is light and chewy and, with just the right amount of topping, it was delicious. I tried one of their lime and coconut dessert bars on my way out, which was a nice and slightly sweet and tangy way to finish lunch. Their menu seems to change reasonably often, which makes this ideal for popping back in now and again to see what else they have on offer. Seems ideal for brunch or lunch when you’re in the area!

There’s much about this place I adore. I love the close connection with the building it occupies(award-winning Adelaide architecture), particularly noting that the exposed pipework criss-crossing the ceiling are découpaged with drawings and application documents relating to the design. Cute. It gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, there’ll one day be enough jobs here to employ the incredible architectural talent that Adelaide produces each year. I love that these guys will trade coffees for home-grown produce. Bring in some lemons, or a bunch of your fresh herbs. I love the comfortable way the café occupies the space. There are bunches of fresh veggies, herbs, boxes of produce, all the things which will go into the food. And there are posters up for events, and information about local festivals and council surveys/programs — there’s an obvious emphasis on fostering community connections and engagement. I love the food and the coffee — both times I’ve been here it’s been very well made, with beautiful fresh ingredients, but not so fancy that it’s intimidating. The meals are friendly, and portion sizes are perfect. And with enough greens! I did get the impression that to a certain extent customers are seen as an inconvenience. That may well be the case — it feels like the place to «be seen». Yes clientele of Café Troppo, I’m judging your geometrically interesting outfits and shoes. And your triangular jewellery. The downside of the staff possibly feeling a bit jaded from dealing with, y’know, people, is that said people end up feeling not all that welcome. This makes me wonder how long the atmosphere will remain pleasant, and it kinda worries me. Café Troppo is indeed a beacon of awesomeness in a corner of town that sorely needs it, and the passion behind it makes it a drawcard in itself — I’d certainly go out of my way to buy coffee or breakfast there if I know I’m welcome. But I don’t know that. All I’m feeling is that old Adelaide social anxiety vibe. So turn up the friendly, guys, yeah? You’ve nothing to lose, and you’ll all have stacks more fun at work. We’re all pulling for you. And good luck getting that small venue licence — it’s a great idea.

I have enjoyed the fantastic and unique atmosphere at café troppo on a number of occasions and after seeing the delicious looking breakfast options walk past me on my most recent visit, I can’t wait to come back again! As others have noted, the café is often packed on weekend and it also has a totally unique and cool style — so I won’t go too much into that. Very reasonably priced — fantastic value for money, with super friendly staff, this place is certainly worth checking out!

Absolutely love the quirky style and chilled atmosphere. The music creates a cosy and relaxed vibe(and I won’t forget to add — recently live music began to play Friday and Saturday nights). The food was delicious, fresh and bought locally to support local businesses. The staff are friendly, helpful and are obviously socially conscious. I don’t have any complaints over then it could be a little bigger to fit more customers. Other then that, amazing café!

Visited here today for the most beautiful lunch in the sun. Staff were friendly and the service was quick, despite it being busy. I had the pumpkin and haloumi burger and an iced mocha and they were both delicious. The burger was particularly fresh! The food and the café itself is presented well. Worth the short stroll down to Whitmore square!

All the reviews are saying ‘quirky’, ‘hipster’ and ‘cool’, etc. For me, Café Troppo is *too* self-consciously cool for my liking. Trying too hard, and not quite making the grade. For me, the atmosphere wasn’t particular friendly — most of the customers looked and dressed the same, staff were too ‘cool’ to smile. It had an over-riding blandness about it. Soundtrack was a recent Cure remixed release — mainstream trying to pretend it’s alternative. Nope, try again kids(hint: if you like the Cure and want to make an impression, their old stuff is cooler than their new stuff — all the hipsters know that! :P) All this blah-ness aside, my long black was OK, and my almond and citrus cake was delicious(and rather large for the $ 5 pricetag). So that was a definite plus. So was the fact that they have crammed in as many tables, chairs and stools as they possibly could. All in all, this is more a ‘place to be seen’ than an actual destination … and to be honest, really cool people don’t care about that sort of stuff! :P

Loved Café Troppo. Great ambiance, attracting a weird mix of Womadians, Hipsters and the Gray mafia of suits and ladies-who-lunch. The coffee was very good. The mint iced tea was awesome and the prices were reasonable. My Guy and bf Lisa both had poachies, which were tasty. I broke my cardinal rule of protein-rich breakfast by going for the croissant with blue cheese and fig jam. Also tasty, but not, strictly speaking a croissant. More like a slightly sweet crescent shaped bread roll. We kicked on with a dessert of Sfogliatelle, which was, how can I put this? Perfect. I didn’t ask but I think it may have been a From Scratch product. Bottom line, go to this little oasis on Whitmore Square!
