Since Allan’s music and Billy Hyde combined to become Allans & Billy Hyde Music, I honestly have to say I haven’t seen much of a change in either business, other than the sign in front of their shops(which isn’t a bad thing because they were both awesome to begin with). The shop on light square was the original Billy Hyde Music store, so it’s layout is different from the original Allans Music store which is located in the city. I love buying new toys, but when I can’t afford to buy new things, I enjoy browsing and looking at all the things I could maybe have one day. At Billy Hyde, I’ve always managed to find what I want, and I know when I’m looking to buy recording gear, I will be heading down their way. When you step in, it can feel fairly intimidating, especially if you’re a newbie, don’t know anything and are looking to buy your first instrument. The sheer amount of stuff that have in every room and hanging on the walls screams out«For professional musicians.» That said, don’t feel intimidated. If there is something that you need, or something you don’t know, don’t be afraid to tell the staff that you know nothing and need help. They all know their stuff, and will help you work out the solution that best suits your needs, and your price tag.

It may come a no surprise to all of you out there in Unilocal land(given my general level of Arrogance), I love the sound of my own voice! Because of this, coupled with my addiction to shiny electrical gadgets, I often pop down to Billy Hyde Music to check out the sweet range of digital recording equipment, microphones and other musical goodness that makes you look hot when you hold it. If you are a muso or just a random narcissist you can quite literally lose an hour or two browsing and end up buying at least 2 or 3 extra things that you didn’t go in for, but just can’t do without! The staff is fantastic by the way, they definately know there stuff and often know a couple of quid off the price if you spend enough or come in often enough! They have a really good selection of Drum Sticks too… I don’t play the Drums, but I think I am cooler for owning sticks!
