The Strand Theater is North Pittsburgh’s PREMIERE Cultural, Education and Community Outreach Center, presenting outstanding live and cinematic programs to our growing base of patron.
History
Established in 2001.
The non-profit Strand Theater Initiative was founded with the sole purpose of purchasing and renovating Zelienople’s historic theater — vacant and in deep decay since the early 1980s — reviving it as a performing arts and cinematic center. Its revival would spur cultural growth, economic development and community outreach using the arts as a catalyst. The charity spent 8 years raising over $ 2.5 million, 2 of those years spent in completing the renovations. The Strand reopened on July 16, 2009. Since then it has presented such household names as Debbie Reynolds, John Oates (Hall & Oates) & a host of Broadway & National touring stars as part of its Broadway Subscription Series. In film, The Strand has screened a wide variety of programs from Silent Films to Golden Era classics like Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz to the most recent Hollywood blockbusters.
