Nature’s Kitchen

Very cute place with unique, kitschy décor. It is a sit down lunch spot that many people stop by from I-​5. It’s conveniently located near the freeway and gas stations with street parking. The city of Yreka is small (about 8,000) but big enough to be a legit town stop. The food was really really good. Like food your grandma would make you for lunch on a visit but better. I got the tuna melt and tomato soup. Also this place sells jewelry, hats, non-​perishable grocery items, herbal medicine, candles, and more. The lady who runs the store is adorable and awesome.

Stopped for lunch in Yreka and found this gem of a restaurant complete with a health food store and many funky and eclectic items to purchase. I had a wonderful spinach and cheese quiche in a puff pastry crust and an unusual and delicious basil tomato soup. I also shared a carrot cookie with frosting and one cookie was definitely big enough to share! Yummy.
The atmosphere was friendly and the service great. I definitely will stop here again should I be traveling the I 5.

Omg, the food is scrumptious, fresh and special! We ordered the tomato bisque soup, that was freshness in a bowl; spinach quiche that had the nicest, flakiest, buttery crust and a side salad with homemade sesame garlic dressing (mild, not heavy!). Everything had just the right amount of seasoning.
While waiting for our food I browsed their store that was full of healthy food and products and the esoteric chakra kind of stuff. I bought two kinds of sauerkraut and a cinnamon roll. Tried them with our meal and they were so delicious!
There was a guitar player, providing soft background music, which was really cool, because for as small as the dining area was, most owners probably wouldn’t allow that, so kudos to these owners!
The décor is funky and colorful, with beautiful colorful socks for sale. The socks are thick and resemble hand knitted. The kids socks even come three to a set!
Everyone working there is so nice and kind. I am happy we discovered this place. Well actually, thanks to the freeway sign with logos of restaurants.
This place is «must stop at» destination if you are passing by the lonely stretch of I-​5!

Considering the small town location this place is a great find but don’t believe the vegan hype, there really aren’t that many options. This place is about 45% omni, 45% veggie, and 10% vegan. The menu was also printed with errors so if you’re vegan double check with the waitress on what you can eat (i.e. veggie burger is not vegan but the grilled tofu sandwich is). I have to say the veggie chili really left a lot to be desired, it was more like pinto bean soup — if a couple other types of beans were added that would be a great improvement. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the attached health store/​gift shop is quite impressive too which is probably why I’m leaning toward 3 stars instead of 2. Having said that, if I’m ever driving to PDX again I’d probably stop here, at least for a smoothie.

Great to find yummy, healthy, quick lunch while traveling. Used Unilocal to find this gem in Yreka. Quick off/​on I-​5. We had house made soups clam chowder/​winter vegetable and salads. Not fancy. Just fresh and tasty and such a welcome relief from Freeway fast food.

Wonderful place for lunch. Sweet folks, unique décor and lots of light. Also, a store in back which sells bulk spices and other more esoteric stuff.

What a gem! I had the sundried tomato quiche and my husband had the bacon one. Best quiche crust ever. It was light and flaky and layered, reminiscent of a croissant. We also got a carrot cookie which was a carrot cake but not, with a layer of amazing icing with orange zest. Absolutely delicious! The fig bar was great also, not too sweet. On top of this great food, the store is wonderful (I bought a small sage smudge bundle and was tempted to buy some rose quartz!). The people who work here are wonderful, smiling and friendly. Definite positive vibes coursing through here! We were just passing through but with the easy on/​off fwy access, we’ll definitely stop every time we pass through!

Great food at a great price. Was looking for a quick healthy bite and they proved rather awesome. Was quickly given my cup of soup with a warm roll. Was a delicious meal for under 5 bucks! Will have to come back for more soon.

Homemade organic cooking at its best. I highly recommend stopping if you desire a healthy meal. I had the daily lunch special of the sun dried tomato quiche and tomato bisque soup. It was probably the best quiche I’ve ever had. My wife ordered the Greek salad and she said it was the freshest salad you has ever had (I finished what she didn’t eat and I have to agree). My daughter ordered the tuna melt and it looked delicious (she confirmed it as well).

Cute, hippy find along I-​5. Lots of organic, yummy food. Cashew Salad with Tofu was amazing. My hubby loved his tuna salad sandwhich with jalapeño jelly. Also has tons of great organic and health food finds in the connected store.

Two hungry vegans couldn’t make it to Ashland without starving. Pretty good, would like some more variety or more veggies in the salad.

Cute place, with great food options, however the execution of those options left us a little flat. Friendly service but food is just solidly ok

I thought hippie places were dead! Not in Yreka. Go before it passes into history.
Pros:
The food was honest and tasty. I had a chili that was one of the best veg chilis I’ve ever tasted although it had more the consistency of refried beans than chili.
Cons:
Kitsch up the wazoo

Driving back from Portland we stopped here because of the great reviews. Always a bit skeptical, but this time we agree. Great food. Fresh and healthy.
Excellent value as well.

Well this little place was a wonderful surprise. Saw their sign on interstate 5 and thot it sounded good and boy was it. Its not just a café. They sell all kinds of goodies. Even using the restroom is an adventure. Organic foods, No GMO period. Natural soaps and toiletries. A book store, a bakery. We had an amazing lunch. I had the garden salad with chicken and my daughter had the cashew tofu salad. Absolutely delicious. We almost licked the plates. Vegetarian or not they have something yummy. The baked goods called to me but i had to turn them down. They have lovely little items, for sale, hanging from 30 year old plants decorating the café. Mike, in the grocery and Max, in the café, were charming and helpful young men. Their kindness and charm helped sell a package of coconut sugar and a lavender candle. Every person who passes through or living in Yreka should visit this little jewel of Northern CA. I will definitely return.

Well I don’t know anything about the food but how can you serve breakfast if you don’t open until 8. Who are your customers welfare recipients and retired people anyone that has a job is at work by 8. At 7 okay I still have time for breakfast, but eight?

Love this cute little health food store. Great organic baked goods, lunch and coffee with a fun selection of handcrafted gifts for sale as well. I picked up my favorite pair of earrings there:)

On I-​5 and looking for a place to stop for lunch? This is your place! I’ve been here a number of times over the past several years. It’s one of my favorite places to have a mid-​day snack or lunch in Yreka. They don’t serve breakfast or dinner, but they have lots of great lunch options, especially for vegans/​vegetarians.
Today I had a bowl of vegetarian chili and it was tasty. I like that it had a lot of beans as well as some other veggies, and the corn chips on the side go well with the chili. I also had an apricot bar which was good, but it was just a tad too sweet. The food isn’t super amazing, but it’s definitely healthier than most of the other options in town.
The people are friendly and the atmosphere is whimsical. Unfortunately, they don’t have wifi, but it’s a great spot to work if you don’t need the web or you have your own hot spot.
The filtered water tested at 39 which is outstanding for a restaurant (50 and lower is generally safest to drink).
Just in case you need to pick up a playful gift, they have delightful trinkets for kids and earthy people.
It would be awesome if they could add some outdoor seating.
Tip: This is a great place to replenish your water bottle.

Been here 3 times already, and the wrap is still just as amazing. This time I ordered some jalapeño jelly on the side for $ 1. Delicious! My coworkers really enjoy the chili veggie burger and spinach quiche as well.

Have you ever eaten something so good you just want to cry, but you don’t want tears getting in your delicious food and ruining it? No? Well that’s how amazing the veggie burger I had was!
My husband surprised me with lunch from here (I’ve never actually been inside) and the veggie burger with perfectly grilled onions and melted cheese was the BEST burger I’ve had since becoming vegetarian many years ago. It came with a sauce on the side, which tasted like in-n-out’s sauce or the Big Mac secret sauce — only better.
I cannot wait to go back and eat it again. And again and again. So good!
My husband loved his salad too. One star down only because our one salad and burger meal came to $ 25 and that feels very high. Worth it on occasion, but still high.
