I’m sure this is a nice establishment but this was not my experience. I walked in and a friendly gentleman did, indeed, help me find a bicycle. A classic burgundy schwinn bicycle for my commute to Ann Arbor. I literally said«I am interested in buying this bicycle». He, however, began having a 10 – 15 minute conversation with a buddy instead of continuing to help me buy a bike. I actually waited silently to see how long it would take him to realize that he was being rather rude. In the end I just walked out. Will not be back. I’m not sure what about my person conveyed I didn’t want to buy a bike. I literally had my money out ready to make the transaction. Nevertheless, his personal conversation was obviously more important than my satisfaction as a customer. I’m sure it’s a great business as the reviews have shown. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to experience it. I feel sad about that, honestly. I felt humiliated and neglected. So much so that I’ve broken my Unilocal vow of silence to write this review; I’ve only used this app to read reviews rather than pass judgment. But I was so incredibly and unprecedentedly put out that here, you have it, my 1-star review. You certainly need not use my review as an indicator of what your experience will be like – clearly this place has a great track record. Disappointed that it had to be with me that things went off the rails. I really did want that sweet ride.

Excellent bike shop! I brought my bike in with a part that needed to be installed, they installed it right away and at a great price. Did an excellent job and very friendly, highly recommend it!

The best in the area for bike repair. Super helpful and friendly, they can fix a flat while you wait. Have good gear for sale.

Nice bikes. I bought a decent 800 buck bike from here way back and they still service it for me free of charge. the building is very homely with wooden structures and the employees are totally chill. The only thing this place is lacking is it’s selection of new bikes. Compared to places in Ann Arbor, they run low on choice of road, and mountain bikes. But still enough to satisfy anyone looking support their local bike shop.

I brought my old(10+yrs) mountain bike in to get a tune up for an upcoming bike trip. I originally called a few bigger named places in AA and was told there was about a 2 – 3 week wait. Called ypsi cycle based off of Unilocal reviews and they lived up to it. Not only did they have my bike back to me in less than 48hrs, but try were $ 25 cheaper than the places in AA. Everyone I met was very friendly. I’m not an über cyclist so I can’t comment on the quality of parts and gear available in the shop but their workmanship/customer service was fantastic. My bike looks and rides good as new!

I have never set foot in Ypsilanti Cycle, but I recall the owner, Ralph Ellis, well. He was the manager at a local shop in Newark Delare when I was a young cyclist and junior racer, some 35 years afo. I might not have ever raced were it not for the kindness of Ralph, selling me his own full Campagnolo Atala for $ 300, just to get me going. Thanks Ralph! I am sure there are countless folk kicking around with similar stories.

I came in on a mission to fix my flat tire and get new brakes. I got both for less than 40 bucks and they replaced my tire on the spot in less than 10 minutes. Really friendly guys. I plan to come again to get a tune up soon!

I was looking for a bike for my wife, which is a challenge since she’s 4’11″. After looking all around Washtenaw County and surrounding areas, we found a new 2010 Schwinn Voyageur in an XS frame which fit her perfectly. Better yet, it was a prior-year model, so we got a great deal on the bike(as well as free maintenance for 1 year, and a 20% discount on accessories during that time). They tuned it up while we were finalizing the purchase; we couldn’t ask for a nicer group of people to work with.

Ralph and the crew at Ypsi Cycle are why local shops will always win my heart. Knowledgable, good turnaround on repairs, great deals on new bikes — I prefer Ypsi Cycle to every bicycle shop I’ve ever dealt with before!

Needed my tire trued, and was extremely please with their speed and service. My tire was fixed that day, and at a fraction of the cost I suspected. Best bike shop in the area.

I had a great experience today at Ypsilanti Cycle. Though used bikes are not their main business, they had the perfect used BMX bike for my(almost) 9 year old son. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They took time on a busy Saturday to make some adjustments so the bike would be a good fit for him. I really appreciate the fact that they didn’t try to push me into a new bike that would have been much more expensive. So now my son has a quality ride and I got a sweet bargain.

i just went in here to buy some fenders and accessories, but the guy who helped me was very kind, gave useful information, didn’t try to upsell me, and didn’t make me feel stupid for knowing NOTHING about bikes. win!

I got my beloved bike from here. I had been searching for the perfect vintage road bike to get me around campus for awhile before I came here. My old bike was a p.o.s. and I originally came in to see if it could be salvaged or if I should just get a new bike. I ended up getting a vintage Collegiate Schwinn for $ 70 after my old bike was deemed worthy of a $ 10 trade-in(I would have just junked it). I also got a front basket here, they’ve got lots of baskets and accessory-type-stuff. They were very friendly and helpful and made sure my bike was tuned up and worked well before I left. I wasn’t sure at first about buying it, so they were trusting enough to let us take our bikes around downtown Ypsi for a test-run. I thought it was a good price for the beauty of a bike that I got. I’ve even gotten comments from strangers about how nice my bike is(did I mention I love it?). My boyfriend got a tune-up here for his bike as well and it was very reasonably priced.

After having gone to some snooty upscale bike shops in the area, it was nice to find a lowkey shop with moderately-priced bicycles. During a recently comparison shopping expedition, this store was on my shortlist. I ended up buying my new bike elsewhere(Two Wheel Tango), but Ypsilanti Cycle was my second choice. The only reason I didn’t buy from Ypsilanti Cycle was that they would have had to order the bike I wanted, while Two Wheel Tango had one in stock. The staff here is really nice and willing to talk to you about your biking needs. They won’t laugh if you’re on a budget and can’t drop a thousand or two on a bike that day. I also appreciated the offer to order the bike I was interested in. Another nice thing about this shop is that they sell a small selection of used bicycles in pretty good shape. I’ve referred more than one friend looking for a used bike to Ypsilanti Cycle.

It’s a brand new bike shop in downtown Ypsilanti. Ralph Ellis is the owner. The guy who had a bike shop at the same address during the 1980s owns the building, and he’s around. Nice selection of bikes, accessories, and parts. They work on bikes too. Last time I was there, they were putting on training wheels for some lucky kid while the entire extended family stood around watching. Ypsilanti Cycle sells used bikes for under $ 100, but I didn’t see that many, compared to some of the stores in Ann Arbor. But Ypsilanti doesn’t have as many college students who are prone to move away and leave their bikes along the side of the road – along with their almost – new furniture and textbooks. On the other hand the guys with mountains of used bikes are charging like-new prices for them, so check out Ypsi Cycle before you buy a bike in Ann Arbor.
