Tried the BBQ pulled pork sandwich today at Smokies during a visit to Yorkville. Boy was I disappointed! The sandwich tasted like the bbq you get out of a tub at the grocery store. Texture was just like that too. Even pouring on a bunch of spicy bbq sauce did not help. Daughter had a cup of soup and she said it was ok. Heard the other food choices in here are better but stay away from the pork. Place looks nice on the inside and staff is friendly.

Not real good in my opinion. The food we got was very blah for what I would expect from any place that serves brisket or pulled pork.

My husband and I came here for dinner and sat in the dining room. It felt a bit loud but we weren’t expecting a fancy dinner so it was fine. I ordered the pulled pork which was nothing to write home about. It was decent for this area but nothing like I have had in the south. My husband got the gyro and enjoyed it. I have also ordered their ribs for a «rib cook off» with family members. Between two homemade versions(two couples that have never made ribs, ever) and a competitor’s, Smokey’s ribs lost… Lacking flavor and that falling off the bone you’re looking for. If you need some BBQ to tide you over, this may fill your needs. Otherwise, I’ll depend on my crockpot for my pulled pork.

The Good: Cool logo on the building and the fries were decent. The Bad: It’s just like every other semi-fast food joint in the suburbs. The Ugly: The Brisket. I should have immediately turned around when I stepped out of my car and didn’t smell burning wood or even a hint of a BBQ aroma in the air.(After all, it’s called Smokey’s Wood Pit BBQ!) The brisket: Horrible. Served like you would expect in a school cafeteria. No smokey flavor, no smoke evidence on the meat(outside coloration) and just plain flavorless. This was not cooked over a wood pit… I’m guessing it was a precooked meat that they just warm up in an oven. The only flavor came from the BBQ sauce that was by itself only mediocre. The pulled pork sandwich: Passable for Illinois. Overall it was soggy and lacked a memorable flavor. The Sides: Plain and lacking any memorable qualities. My Suggestion: Do yourself a favor and pass on this and search out better quality food.

I want to like them. I really do. I’m all about supporting local businesses, but it’s been three strikes now. The meat is so dry, the mashed potatoes look like cafeteria food, and the cole slaw seems to have come out of a container. Good barbecue should be falling-off-the-bone tender, and if it’s not, the sauce should redeem it. No and no. And the cornbread muffin wasn’t even edible… it was that stale. No thank you. I love a good barbecue joint, but I’m sorry to say this is not one of them. One extra star just because it’s a good place to take the family for ice cream.

The spicy BBQ sauce is where it’s at! Decent food. Decent prices. It isn’t «real» BBQ, but it’s not bad for fast food.

I love this restaurant. The food is great. The only thing I do not like is that they allow the TV to be set at a deafening level when you have to sit within three tables of it. Sometimes there is no volume like other restaurants have but when it is on it actually prevents you from hearing the cashier and you can’t even hear the people sitting across from you at your table. If this was resolved I would enjoy my visit more and go there more often.

We ordered beef brisket and a pulled pork sandwich. There was ZERO evidence of smoking done to the beef whatsoever. Terrible false advertising! It masqueraded as a mom-&-pop restaurant version of the McRib. The cornbread muffins were so dry they fell to pieces after being unwrapped –in other words, ask for a spoon so you can eat it. The pulled pork was just OK. The bun was a bad choice for pulled pork –the gritty cornmeal coating and overly soft texture turned the squishy meat sandwich into a sloppy mess. The macaroni was not creamy, just greasy and looked like it was made hours earlier –not fresh. It tasted that way as well. The best part, their fries. If only a greasy, fried side order was enough substance to overlook mediocre main dishes! If you’re looking for good BBQ, keep looking.

Stopped in around lunch time and grabbed a brisket dinner to go. A choice of 2 sides came with the dinner; I ordered the coleslaw and baked beans. At first glance, I took note of the brownish-gray brisket void of any smoke ring or bark. After digging in, I quickly realized that my meal was fast food product likely purchased at the neighborhood GFS. Reminded me of deli roast beef cooked in a pan on the stove top. Barbecue sauce was very plain, as was the lukewarm, dry brisket. coleslaw was heavy on the mayo, and the baked beans were reminiscent of Bush’s canned variety. All due respect, this is simple, fast food barbeque.

I had a southwestern salad without meat and it was good. I usually go here for the buger so I was surprised at the fresh salad. It was not particularly tastee, but it was well made and fresh. I enjoyed it.

It gets a star because it’s clean. That’s not barbeque. There was no bark on the pulled pork, no smoke ring on the brisket. It lacked the distinctive smoky flavor that barbeque should have. The mac and cheese tasted like a grocery store box. Slaw was okay. Fries are fries. We didn’t try other sandwiches because we were looking forward to barbeque. We didn’t get barbeque.

This place has great food and a little bit of everything for the whole family. I recommend the BBQ pork sandwich or Italian beef or even the burgers or dogs. I haven’t been disappointed.

Great family atmosphere dining. Everything I’ve eaten here has been fantastic. If the prices were a tad cheaper I’d be coming here more often. But great quality food and staff.

Yes. Oh my god yes. Eat here. The gyros sandwich was awesome. The onion rings were honestly the best I’ve ever eaten. Plus, the cute piggy statues everywhere made me smile.

When it comes to independently owned quick serve restaurants in Yorkville, Smokeys and Munchies are the best in town. Smokeys has an excellent pulled pork sandwich along with many other offerings. The daily soups are made in house, as well as most of the sides. This place is packed during the summer months for ice cream sales. Smokeys also sponsors many local events in addition to sports teams. Their community involvement is second to none. Service and food wait times are ample given everything is made to order. If you’re in the mood for something different, this place will leave you full and satisfied.

So, the Smokeys in Oswego is closed down now. Not too surprising, but I think mostly based on a large building in a higher rent area without enough sit down customers. So… we went to the Yorkville location. I had a pit boss and fries, along with sampling my daughters chicken tenders. The pit boss, a beef brisket and pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw and onion rings, was good but not great. There isn’t anything particularly bad or good about this sandwich. The chicken tenders, surprisingly, were delicious. I’ve also had their ribs once before and found them dry and overcooked. If you’re in the mood for quick BBQ, this place is certainly an option… and possibly the best in the Oswego /Yorkville area. Their prices are reasonable, staff is friendly, and everything is tender. Give it a try
