Urban Forest Landscape & Construction

After reading all of the effusive complimentary reviews, I called UFL&C to get an estimate for a complete rennovation of my back yard i.e. artificial turf, hardscape, etc. As noted by most other reviewers, Allen was prompt in returning my call and scheduling an appointment. However, that’s the extent of any positive feelings I had regarding this company. I got the impression he really wasn’t interested — He took no measurments, offered no ideas, asked no questions regarding my needs, etc. He did ask if I had taken measurements for the sod I would be removing and replacing with artificial turf. I said I had so he suggested I email those to him and then he could give me an estimate. How do you provide an estimate without knowing the scope of work? I’m glad so many others have found his services worthy of praise, but my first impression was quite the opposite. I found him aloof and disinterested. I am very disappointed and will go elsewhere to spend my hard earned money.

I called them last week and left a message since they didn’t pick up. They returned my call at 8PM which I couldn’t answer. They called me 2 days later and we made an appointment. The appointment was today between 10am-​12pm. They never showed up. I called and reached the answering machine again. I can never get a hold of them at once. They wasted my time today. I saw some bad reviews but tried reading more of the positive ones so that’s why I called and yes, my experience proved those bad reviews. I hate the unprofessional businesses like this!

I called two landscape companies. The first I talked to never showed up. Allen, with Urban Landscape, came to our home promptly after we talked. He is really nice guy and is highly educated in horticulture. We discussed our ideas and he made some excellent suggestions that we incorporated. We had his guys remove a grass slope and replace it with a 6’x35’ garden planter. The block work and stucco finish is first class. They also thoroughly cleaned the dirt and added mulch and planter mix. They also trenched in a water supply and set up drip irrigation. Everything in five days. After a week of watering and stabilization, we now have an excellent planter for flowers, small plants and vegetables. His crew of two guys were very courteous and cleaned up everything to our satisfaction. Based on our experience, I highly recommend Urban Forest.

Outstanding work and top notch design. Work completed on time and within budget. Results were extraordinary. Our yard is small but the design makes it feel like a resort!

Exceptional. We have two young children, and our small garden had ceased to be functional with water drainage problems, poor irrigation for our dwindling plants and grass, and insufficient space for the kids to run around. We had a rough idea of what we needed, but we didn’t know how to get there.
Enter Urban Forest Landscape. Allen understood what we wanted, suggested alternatives where necessary in line with our budget, whilst never compromising on quality. We appreciated his expertise and attention to detail as we moved through all the different phases, and the ongoing collaboration. Under Allen’s guidance we were able to realize a beautiful design that addressed all of our priorities and concerns. Special mention should be made of his team who are very skilled, friendly and hardworking.
We wouldn’t hesitate in using Urban Forest again.

Beautiful work, wonderful & experienced company.
I initially contacted Urban Forest Landscape through their website for an estimate to completely renovate our backyard. The backyard consisted of a pile of dirt, broken up concrete, uneven dead patches of grass, an ugly rotten fence, etc. Allen was very professional via email, asked me what I would like to do, and scheduled a time to come over to give me an estimate. He was very thorough, listened to my ideas, and gave some of his input. He emailed me a detailed estimate within a few days. I decided to go with his company and work started within a week.
Allen came out to the project everyday to see how things were progressing. He was always available to answer questions in person, by phone, or via email. Every member of his crew were very professional and knew how to do their job. They worked quickly and efficiently, and always cleaned up their mess. The backyard is stunning now and I am so happy with the finished product. The end result truly looks like one of those yard makeover shows from the HGTV network.
I will use this company again when I renovate the front yard. Thank you!

Even though we decided to go with another company, I really appreciated Allen’s time and punctuality in coming over to our house and giving us a comprehensive estimate. That says a lot in this business. I’m sure that he would have done a wonderful job if we had gone with him.

I rarely write reviews so this is a first! I want to share with everyone what an awesome experience we had with Allen and his team from beginning to end. I had another company come out for a quote and Allen had his proposal back to me and we had a contract signed before the other company even came back with a quote. Allen is always available for questions and got back to me immediately.
Allen and his team were all very professional and finished the job exactly when he said they would. He gave me a lot of good advice and our backyard patio turned out absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend his services for any landscaping needs.

I’ve been meaning to write a review on Urban Forest for almost a year now. Our ample-​sized backyard was an overgrown, weed jungle, impossible to enjoy, until we met Allen. The project was originally meant to be only a conversion of a very small area to artificial turf for our dogs. Prior to coming across Allen and Urban Forest I had called several companies to come to our home and give an estimate for the turf job. None would bother with such a small area! They were either no-​shows or told me to call elsewhere! One of these companies was a big name paving business that had previously done a large paving job at our home. When I called Allen, he said, «no job is too small.» I was impressed from this point on.
Our small job ended up becoming a significantly larger project, with artificial turf installed in one area for the dogs and another larger one for us humans, in addition to trees, beautiful native plants (not tempting to the rabbits that invade this area), some hardscape, hill landscaping and outdoor lighting. Our back yard turned out lovely, enjoyable and practical.
Allen provides a great combination of practical knowledge and aesthetics in addition to advanced knowledge about flora. He was always personable and patient with us. The guys that work for him are conscientious and skilled (on top of just plain nice). Not everything was absolutely perfect, but close enough. In addition, Urban Forest’s prices are reasonable — not cheap, but not over priced either.
We will definitely call him when we are ready to hire some one for more outdoor improvements.
By the way, I called the big name paving company that wouldn’t come out for the small job, spoke with management and told them to take us off their mailing list and that they blew it by not making an exception for a previous customer (our small job turned out to be a big job).

We had a tough situation in our yard as there was a leak in our back yard that required removal of several trees, installation of new drainage and replanting. The old landscaping was 25 years old and as you can imagine with the roots and small space there were plenty of rough areas to be worked on. All of these had to be approved by the City as there was a complaint from our neighbor who claimed our drainage was not working properly.
We hired Allen and his team. He did a great job for us, keeping us up-​to-​date on the progress and most importantly taking care of all the paper work needed by the City. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He knows his plants and takes pride in his work. What impressed me the most was the quality of material used and attention to detail making sure the work was done completely. I recommend Allen and his company very highly.

We had our front yard re-​landscaped and the porch and steps had flagstone work. My husband and I were so impressed by how professional, clean and wonderful the owner and workers were throughout the entire process. Allen, the owner was extremely knowledgeable about horticulture and he had a keen sense of architectural design that worked beautifully in our yard. We continue to get comments from our neighbors that we «have the most beautiful front yard» in the neighborhood. I would not hesitate to recommend Urban Forest Landscape to anyone who wants to beautify the outside of their home.

We had a good experience with them. The owner, Allen, was always available to answer our questions and he worked with us on a tight budget. The work looks great and we were surprised how fast they got it done.
Also, we were happy to find that Allen was very knowledgeable on converting our yard to California natives. Yay! Goodbye lawn!
