Modell’s Sporting Goods

Had an issue with a Swagway purchased at Modell’s. They cleared it up and, it turns out, were consummate professionals about it. I went from being an irate consumer to appreciating when someone recognizes a mistake and rectifies it as quickly as they can.

You’d think a stand alone, two floored Modell’s would fare better than some of their other locations… but you should think again.
As stated, this location is 2 floors and pretty heavily stocked on some items — others, not so much. Downstairs, you can find the sneakers and gym equipment while upstairs is pretty much everything else. The store looks cramped at times with it’s layout and easily more confining than any of it’s sister stores I’ve been to. I understand they want to maximize their space and they’re welcome to it, but they probably could use a little overhaul in that department.
I’ve personally never had a problem with any employee in this location, but I could see how some would also not make a list of best employees at the same time. Anyone I’ve dealt with, being cashiers or floor workers, have never been a problem and are usually the same generically friendly employees you’ll find anywhere. They do socialize a lot with each other though, despite customer traffic in the store.
Particularly, one of the last times I came here, I was desperately shopping for a specific type and color sneaker for my toddler for school. I went everywhere I could think of before coming here. There was no place out there at all that had what I was looking for, but this Modell’s had the right sneaker I needed for my son. After a long search, this place saved my sanity which I was close to losing after spending hours driving around looking for these sneakers. And to top it off, the employee I dealt with in that section was very pleasant.
The parking lot and location for this store is probably the biggest problem here. The parking lot in which this place is located is not the store’s fault at all, but it need to be mentioned. I generally will not come here just because of it’s location. It’s located in that Besy Buy/​Movieland/​Burlington/​whatever else shopping center on Central Avenue in Yonkers. That parking lot alone is generally a hassle — but when you have a store like Modell’s in it’s front corner location right next to one of the main entrances to this lot, it becomes that more of an issue. Parking in this lot in general can be trying and parking in front of this store with such busy traffic at times can make it worse. I would usually park in one out of the way area (since I’m not afraid to walk a few extra feet unlike a lot of the customers who frequent this center) and eventually walk to this place. If you park directly in front of this store, be cautious while backing out. But it can be generally a hassle coming to this shopping center at all in the first place and I avoid going here mainly because of that.
Bottom line, a well stocked store and certainly worth a trip if you’re in the line to buy sporting goods or whatever else a store like Modell’s would carry. Really, the only sporting goods location in the immediate area unless you want to drive to that horrid Ridge Hill and find Dick’s or you want to venture to Cross County to try Sport’s Authority.

1. It has two floors but they have a rather small selection of items compared to other Modells.
2. The staff is usually chatting amongst themselves. Every time I’ve gone they’ve never really greeted me or offered to help.
3. Remember to bring your baseball tickets as you can get 15% off your purchase.
4. It’s located near a Foot Locker, GNC, McDonalds.
5. It’s located at a shopping center so there’s plenty of parking.

Modell’s has such disaster service its unreal. 95% of the workers are super un happy i mean its out of control, if your not happy leave your job to younger kids who actually need to work and actually do their job and provide customer service. I used to put myself through the abuse of coming to this location and buying my sports equipment, baseball bats, cleats, shorts, clothing you name it i went their for it. This was before dick’s sporting goods and all of the other chains, but of course now since they are around i wouldn’t be caught dead at this place.
