Kate’s Canines, LLC

Dallas (my newly adopted wire terrier mix) and I first met Kate in our living room on Jan 18^th. From the moment she walked in and greeted us I knew we were in good hands. Our problem: Dallas followed me all over the place and his leash walking was, in Kate’s words, like «going to war». Kate explained the psychology behind Dallas’ behavior and gave me the confidence to implement what she taught me. I can happily report that Dallas is getting it! Our second session of leash walking turned miserable walks into pleasurable, looked-​forward to experiences. Kate’s personality is delightful and she is as sweet as she is a competent dog trainer. I thoroughly enjoyed our sessions with Kate and I highly recommend her!

Kate was amazing! She helped us get our rescue dog comfortable in her new home. Ellie, a beagle mix, was unsure of «how to be a dog» and Kate, with her suggestions and training techniques enabled Ellie to come out of her shell. Thank you Kate!

We saw changes in our dog after only 6 days. Kate’s techniques are effective, and doable even if you have a busy schedule. We adopted an elderly basset from a rescue and we weren’t sure he could be trained at all. But Kate has proven you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. After several failed trainers before her I can say with confidence this is one of the best options in New York City.

My dog Peggy had a ton of issues before getting the boot camp training from Kate. Peggy was scared of people, she would bite people, she barked at everything and could never be alone. Kate was fantastic. She gave Peggy jobs and structure and calmed her mind. Peggy now sits, walks, goes in her crate, lies down, eats on a schedule and does so many things I never would have imagined that she’d be able to do. I now have a dog that can be around people and causes me no stress if strangers go near her. She is a completely new dog. Kate understands how dogs work, and she understands how people work too! Definitely go through the boot camp with Kate. It is definitely worth it. BIG TIME!

I wish I could give Kate 6 out of 5 stars. She is seriously amazing.
We have a terrier mix pup named Peggy that we adopted from the ASPCA. She had a red collar on when we adopted her (aka. Already labelled badly behaved) and she she lived up to her label. She was the most anxious dog ever and I got frustrated with her constantly. She bit all of our friends, barked constantly at people when they came into our home, never listened to commands, and was very anxious and nervous all the time. I was at the breaking point with Peggy. I wanted to give her to my parents because her behavior caused me such bad anxiety. But all we needed was Kate and now we have a balanced well-​behaved dog.
We put Peggy through the doggie boot camp and it’s like we have a new dog. Seriously, I was so skeptical she could be trained since we waited so long. She was with us for about 2 years before we got the training. From the very first night of training we’ve had a new dog. Kate showed us how to train her. Her system works. If you’re looking for a trainer that uses only treats, let me tell you, don’t use Kate. And if you do that, you will be wasting your money because it doesn’t work. Her method works for even the most nervous/​anxious pets.
Honestly, it’s a big investment to get Kate’s doggie boot camp and we are on a tight budget. We spent $ 100 to get Peggy from the ASPCA, and we spent more than 8x that on training. But I would do it again, even if it was worth double the price. It’s worth every single penny.
It takes a lot of work to put Kate’s teachings into practice. And Peggy is far from a perfect dog. But she’s improving. And she is a much happier more confident dog, which allows me to be much happier person.

Let me start by saying you will not find someone who is more dedicated to their job and actually wants to help people, Kate is the best! She literally helped me when no one else would. What I mean by that is she allowed me to come into her home since she couldn’t travel to mine. Kate had no doubt that she wouldn’t be able help with my puppy’s behavior problems and basic training within a two month period. She made training fun and helped me learn basic methods that I didn’t know such as a leash is your best friend! Not only did our puppy Winston love her, but so did we. Kate even covered socialization with her dogs and ours, you can tell by how trained her dogs are that she knows what she’s doing. I know that I can always rely on her for any of my doggy needs even now that are sessions are over! Winston is now much better and with her tips and tricks he will only grow from here!

Where to begin… let’s see, Kate is awesome! Our dog recently likes to bark at everyone and especially at other dogs. It’s been a bit annoying as she makes our walk extremely unpleasant. No longer able to show her off to friends due to the barking/​growling. We want nothing but the best for our dog so we researched several days to find the right trainer. Kate’s past reviews felt very assuring and we felt she had a lot of experiences based on the comments.
we have traveled over 1 hr to bring our dog to meet Kate. Due to the distance she also offered discounted price long story short, after only 1 lesson and using the training method/​tool she proposed, we already saw many improvements. If distance wasn’t the problem, we definitely will take our dog to see Kate weekly. For those that are close to Kate, contact her ASAP!!!

Kate’s amazing… We have a small dog that would bite anyone that would come near us. We searched for trainers but no one will deal with a dog that bites. Kate came over our house and in the first hour changes the behavior of the dog. We did boot camp with her and it was worth ever dime!!! She has changed our life and we now have a much happier dog… We still keep in contact with her and she answers all my questions… We have renamed her as the dog whisper … I could write a super long review but you get the point. If you want someone that will teach you how to be a better pet owner she’s the one for you… And she’s got an amazing personality to… Thank you Kate we truly won the lotto with you!!!

Kate’s Canines is THE BEST if your a new dog owner like we were! We got the 6 training new dog sessions and they were worth every penny! The first visit in the home she taught us the simple direction of ‘place’ that changed our apartment life! Then moving to the park and learning down stays helped with our little Dolly’s impulse control. She was on call in the moment when I had a delightful neighbor call the cops on my little lady because she was howling scared after having escaped her crate and running loose in the apartment. Katie gave us so many tools to help calm her down and make her more confident in herself! She knows how to work with you to help you help your dog and we can’t say thank you enough!

We had such a great experience with Katie and our dog Franklin, a sheepdog/​poodle mix puppy. I am not innately a ‘dog person’ having grown up a bit afraid and nervous around dogs. Katie worked so well with me and my kids, helping us to understand Franklin and to be better dog owners. She trained him, and us, in such a meaningful yet playful way. We refer to things Katie said and taught us everyday — and Franklin is a delightful dog. We highly recommend Katie!

We had a great experience working with Katie. We rescued Bobby, a loving, 2yr old dog who didn’t have any prior training. We saw changes in Bobby almost immediately. Basic boundaries and commands gave Bobby confidence and led her to becoming more independent. In addition to training Bobby, Katie helped us understand how we could modify our own behavior to get the results we were after. It was money well spent and I highly recommend bootcamp to anyone who brings a dog into their family, or has any issues they need help with.

Katie came extremely highly recommended by our rescue organization, Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, and with good reason. With her basic obedience series, she did a tremendous job helping us with our special Phoebe (1 year old boxer/​terrier mix), who was doing a lot of lunging (dogs, pedestrians), crooked walking, and chewing. Phoebe behaves infinitely better now — calm, obedient, a down-​stay/​heel champ, crate-​trained, much better with recall — while still being her usual happy self. Katie has a wonderful presence with dogs that demands attention but also shows genuine praise and encouragement, and she was always excellent with her insights on how dogs should behave in the real world and how they take cues from us as owners. Katie was always punctual and super-​helpful with urgent questions. And she really does train *you* to be the best trainer of your dog. We are very blessed to have worked with her and would recommend her to absolutely anyone. Heck, Phoebe approves too — she’s on Kate’s Canine’s Facebook profile picture!

Katie was a real help in getting our four legged juvenille delinquent on the path to good behavior. She gave us somoe new tools and confidence to add structure to our pup’s life and bring some calm into ours. We look forward to working with her again as we continue to build on the Boot Camp tools.

Katie is an amazing trainer who totally transformed our life with our new rescue dog. We adopted a very energetic two year old and on our first few nights we weren’t sure it was going to work out as we could not figure out how to calm him down enough so that we could eat dinner. After a single session with Katie, we had learned enough about our pup Miles and his need for structure to radically alter how he behaved in the house. Over the course of the six session boot camp, Miles has learned to sit, stay, go into a down stay, come (he’s still working on that one), walk at heel, go to place, and is starting to be less stressed in general. Mostly, Katie taught my partner and I how to create the structure that Miles needed/​needs in order to be a mellow fellow. She also provided tons of advice to nervous dog owners via email, text and phone, and she was very flexible with scheduling. I cannot recommend her enough!

I have a very strong 1.5 year old puppy that is full of love, but jumps on everyone and pulls towards squirrels, rats, birds, dogs, etc etc. After a Walk and Place training with Kate, my dog had improved so much I couldn’t believe it. I highly recommend Kate as a trainer, she is teaching me how to handle my dog. I have been to other dog trainers and she is by far the only one I have seen amazing results.

I had grown up with a dog as a child, but it was many years ago, and never in a city neighborhood environment. After about a month, I realized I needed help. LuLu was pulling on her leash like crazy, and exhibiting aggression towards other dogs, sometimes even other people.
Going out for walks was getting super stressful! I didn’t know if she was going to lunge at another dog, or get into a barking match in the lobby of my building (so embarrassing) or start barking/​running after a motorcycle.
After doing a Bunch of research, I decided to go with Kate’s Boot Camp option. After the first lesson, I saw results. After two lessons, my fear of walking LuLu pretty much disappeared.
Kate is not a treat-​based trainer. The emphasis is on structure, discipline, and consistency. She also builds up your confidence so that you can be the alpha your puppy needs. She really understands dog behavior and explains to you why dogs do the things they do.
The boot camp did wonders. Now, I can take LuLu to the dog park, on long trips, even on the subway! She hangs out at parties with all my friends. I can take her into totally new situations and know she’s going to be OK. Everyone, even strangers mention how well behaved she is.
She doesn’t always do Everything I tell her to, and she can still be a very stubborn, willful and feisty girl (she is part Terrier after all), but I have a great foundation and the skills I need to figure things out!

Kate is great! Her training philosophy and six week boot camp are working very well for our rambunctious young terrier. No treats and tough love and she gives you a lot of simple tools to help your dog live well on your terms instead of his. She is very professional and organized and super prompt (early always for appointments). So happy we got referred to Kate!

I am so happy that I found Kate! She came to work with me and my bratty, bossy and all around egotistical dog. Lol. Basic place command and auto sit on the leash have been a life saver. She even helped to train my dog walker on the best way to handle my beast. She was always encouraging, polite and knowledgable. She gave great suggestions and with follow through and work on my end, I feel that she has really changed the dynamic In the house and the power has shifted back into my corner. Thanks so much! Kate helped us train our 5 month old Labradoodle Maxine. She was great! Max is a really great dog and Kate played a huge role in that. She not only trained Maxie but taught us how to make training maxie part of our everyday life.

We were referred to Kate by Badass Brooklyn rescue, where we got our pup. As a long term dog owner, I felt like I knew alot about training, but this new little guy put us at ours wits end.
Kate was affordable, punctual, communicative and super helpful. Our dog had a lot of leash aggression and even ended up biting me on one of our walks. After that I was afraid of him. I had never been bitten by my own dog before and he was such a love bug all the rest of the time. We were afraid not only for ourselves but for other people on the street. Before Katie we were afraid to walk our dog, now we love it. He is such a little gentleman. He sits at street corners and can even sit and watch another crazy dog go by without a lot of interest.
We learned so much from Katie and are even considering a second session of training with her. Highly, highly recommended.
