Deane’s Oceanfront Lodge specializes in affordable oceanfront lodging. Our rooms are clean and fresh with some of the prettiest views and best beach access around. The motel was built in 1947 and has a lot of charm — whitewashed walls, nautical décor, original glass block showers and even some retro kitchenettes. This charm is combined with modern amenities such as mini-​fridges, microwaves, electric fireplaces plus cable TV and Wi-​Fi in all rooms. Deane’s is the perfect places for couples, families or people just looking for a getaway. We also love dogs and have 6 pet-​friendly units.

History

Established in 1947.

The motel was built in 1947 by Mr. & Mrs. Deane — so that’s where the motel name comes from. It changed hands over the years and was even named the «Soma» for a short while. The motel is now owned by Glen and Katherine Aukstikalnis. Glen and Katherine have worked tirelessly to bring the motel back to it’s «original glory». All rooms have updated electrical, new ceilings, new flooring and new bedding. In addition, there are modern ammenities such as cable TV, Wi-​Fi, mini-​fridges, microwaves, coffee makers and electric fireplaces in all rooms. Despite all of the changes, the motel retains much of it’s original charm including original glass block tiles in all the bathrooms and original furniture (all recovered by Katherine’s mom Sandy). Perhaps most importantly, the motel is still located on one of the prettiest beaches on the Pacific Coast. Deane’s Oceanfront Lodge is a true classic!

Business Owner

Glen and Katherine Aukstikalnis bought Deane’s Oceanfront Lodge in November of 2009. Since then they have worked tirelessly to update the motel. It’s been a real family process with Katherine’s Dad living at the motel and Katherine’s mom Sandy, and step-​father Richard helping nearly every weekend. In addition, many friends and family have helped with painting projects and landscaping.

Glen and Katherine have a lifelong love of the Oregon coast. Katherine grew up in Oregon has always treasured vacations at the coast. Glen moved to Oregon in 1985. Glen is an avid fisherman and loves going out for Tuna, Halibut, Lingcod and crab.

It should also be noted that Glen and Katherine own two Pembroke Welsh Corgis named Mr. Nibbs and Trixy. They really do love dogs and welcome dogs in the selected pet-​friendly rooms.

we chose Deane’s for a girls weekend based on Unilocal reviews and we were not disappointed. The staff was super friendly and the rooms very very clean. There were 6 of us– and don’t believe any of us could find a fault with our stay. The beach access was easy and felt pretty private– the fire pit was nice, the patio was very handy– since our rooms were not right next to each other– we hung out on the patio with our coffee listening to the sound of the waves :)
This is not some modern chain place to stay– it is a million times better.

It is SO hard for me to write this review.
I enjoyed my recent last-​minute overnight stay very much. I enjoyed a quaint, spotless room. I was spoiled by amazing food (recommended by staff). I was gobsmacked by the massive beach that I enjoyed all to myself. I LOVED how quiet and peaceful my slumber was.

Very cozy, simple accommodations on a quiet stretch of PCH with great beach access and a great small town center a couple miles away!
While planning a wandering trip down the Pacific Coast Highway, my husband and I decided to book a room somewhere close to the beach in this area and with a reasonable price tag. I wasn’t sure what to expect when we reserved a room here, but I was really impressed by Deane’s! It has a motel feel (which normally I wouldn’t like), with very simple accommodations and GREAT access to the beach.
There’s no central air in the rooms, so throw the window open to listen to the waves and enjoy the fresh ocean air. The back door of each room opens to a shared patio space with picnic tables and a fire pit closer to the beach. There’s a selection of games and movies available for loan from the front office. Everyone we met who worked here was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Don’t expect a lot for breakfast besides donuts, tea, and coffee, but that’s fine since you’ve got several great breakfast options available 2 – 3 miles down the road. Also be aware that the bathrooms are a bit tight. (I had to be careful to squeeze past the toilet bowl when I stepped in and out of the shower, since the toilet was a lot less than a foot from the shower.)

This is a great place to stay on the Oregon Coast. Rooms are clean, even the pet friendly one we stayed at with our dog. Oh, did I mention they are über pet friendly? They give you sheets to protect the bed after you get back from a romp on the beach and Rover is a bit sandy. Also a water bowl, towels, and treats. Nice people work here and the beach is dramatic.

Very clean. We stayed in unit 7. Loved the old style hotel. Park eighth in front of your unit. And has back door to walk out to beach. Beds were new. Even though hotel is from 50’s it was soooo nice. No stairs to climb kitchenette was handy. Bathroom was vintage and plumbing new with hot hot shower. Would absolutely stay again.

I’m not a hotel person and especially not a motel person. I’m more into timeshare condos. However this place was really nice. Very clean and bed was comfortable. Extremely friendly staff. Room and bathroom are small but again clean.
There is a back door of your room that goes out to the back of the motel in a shared covered patio. You walk a little to the stairs and walk down to the beach. We saw a seal on the beach and in the morning saw deer by our room.
Free DVDs and games and in am free donuts and coffee.
Would stay there again.

Our stay here was everything we wanted and much more. Deane’s is amazingly comfortable, clean, and absolutely pet friendly. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in because they provided a pet care package for the duration of our stay.
We had forgotten a few items for our bbq night but the friendly staff again helped us out. Our «fur baby» enjoyed all the long walks and meeting other fur people as well, there were convenient pet mess stations too!
We definitely will recommend this establishment to friends and family who are looking for a place to stay in Yacahts and when we go for another coastal get away we will definitely be staying at Deane’s again!

Very nice place. Our room had a great old kitchenette the worked wonderfully. The room was very clean and cozy. When we arrived we were greeted by the hotel manager and given a tour of the room before checking in. After checking in we were given a «doggy bag» for our dog that contained a water dish, blanket and and small bag of treats. We then went down to the beach just a short walk from the back door of our room.
I cannot say enough about this place and we are excited to return next time we are on the coast.

I was really rooting for this place and would have liked to give it five stars:) I wasn’t expecting a whole lot since it was near the beach (most of the time, even with an ocean view room, you’re too far away to see the water) and under $ 100 dollars. Upon checkin the manager was super friendly and nice — family atmosphere, offered help with anything I needed and went out of her way to get me an early check in. The owners were friendly but not overly so… Perhaps it’s because of my age, but every time they talked to me instead of looking at me after asking a question, they looked at their screen or were on their way out the door, not looking for a real reply. :/​
The room was adorable! Unfortunately I didn’t notice the smell until after 9pm, when their office hours end. I couldn’t fall asleep because of the dusty/​moldy smell coming from the comforter and floors. Owner in the morning confirmed they’re not often washed, however she didn’t seen super concerned and didn’t offer any sort of refund despite the room not being clean. She did mention in the future they may switch to duvet covers to keep it from happening again. There is also wire mesh under the sink near the wall that can cut pretty well– be careful if you have kids. Walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors snore through the night.
Fresh fruit and coffee were always available in the office, and the manager was always happy to get you anything you need! Overall the experience depends on which staff you come in contact with and probably when your room was last cleaned. I absolutely loved the back yard area. There is a staircase leading right down to the beach! It is about 225 feet from your back door, to beach access. If you’re looking for an older, homey, relaxing place with nothing fancy (and don’t have any minor allergies to things that smell like they’ve come out of a basement) then this is the perfect spot :)) super cute daffodils are in the front of each room as well!

Yachats is one of my favorite towns on the Oregon coast, but this was my first visit to Deane’s Oceanfront Lodge. Our king-​bed room was very clean, the bed was comfortable (did not sag with two people), and every staff member we came in contact with was friendly and super accommodating. The bathroom was efficient, but I would not want to get in and out of the shower if I wasn’t sure-​footed. I think stepping around the toilet is an accident waiting to happen, frankly.
Our stay was in January, so we spent more time in our room than if it were summer. With that said, I would be more inclined to stay here again when the weather is warmer, we are spending more time on the beach, and we could comfortably sit outside at the picnic table playing a game of cards, rather than at the small table in the room that barely seats 2.
It’s a good value for the budget-​conscious traveler.

Was not a big fan of the shower being made of the frosted glass blocks was scared someone could see in however everything else was amazing! Staff was very friendly room was very clean and welcoming. They even have a lendling library or games movies and books that you can take back to your room. While it doesn’t have a breakfast they offer coffee and donuts. Rooms also have a heater on top of a little electric stove to make a romantic feel. Would stay here again!

Feel kinda bad to go against all the Unilocalers stellar reviews but this place was disappointing. On a one month road trip it was one of our worst rooms. Friendly greeting by a young woman who rattled off info quickly. Checked in to find a tiny room that seemed clean but def needs rehabbed. Bed needed replaced and the furnishing were just kinda sad in general. The tiny bath was bright and kinda cool in a retro way but come on… you gotta climb over the toilet to use the glassblock shower?! Not our idea of a coastal getaway.

Ten years ago, we had stayed here for a few days and loved it. Back then it was called Soma’s and the motel was painted pink — most likely what got our attention. The huge attraction to this place all those years ago? We remembered the huge backyard that led to the beach. It felt like our own private gateway to the sun, sand, and sea.
Fast forward to the present day. After exchanging ownership 2 or 3 times, the motel, now called Deane’s Oceanfront Lodge, has made a few improvements to keep up with the times. For example, there’s now a wide-​screen TV, coffeemaker, mini fridge, a DVD player (the front desk has a variety of movies to choose from), and of course, the obligatory WiFi connectivity.
That’s not what we came here for. What brought us back, was the expansive backyard, which has a cliff’s edge, and leads to the beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and easy access to the beach. To us, (my wife, son, and daughter, and our dog, Ryle) this is what makes the experience truly enjoyable and breathtaking. Sure, there are beach access from other motel and lodging areas but the instant gratification of hitting the beach via the back door makes a huge difference.
The room we stayed in had two rooms and was comfortable enough. Again, there maybe better accomodations elsewhere but the backyard … the backyard is what makes it for us. My family, for sure, would want to come back for another visit. It’s also about a two mile drive into Yachats.

Good stop if your expectations are adjusted correctly. This is an updated 50s motel. It’s clean, in a good location, with good management. it’s kind of like Southwest Airlines. If you have minimal expectations — clean place to sleep in a good location — you’ll find Deanes a great stop. We’ll be back.

Each room has spectacular views and are very close to the ocean. The beach access here is AMAZING! ! I love the fact that this hotel is dog friendly, have a variety of room sizes, picnic tables and gas grills for each room. The staff here are so genuinely friendly and helpful. Having stayed here multiple times I dont see myself going anywhere else.

We just needed a little 1 night get away with our pups so I saw the good reviews so reserved us a room at Deane’s. When we arrived, they were so friendly and handed a bag of goodies for our pups! We loved the room. It was clean, comfortable and they actually had the heater going to have the room warm for us when we arrived. Of course we loved that twe could walk to the beach.
However, I would suggest going somewhere for breakfast (Recommend Blue Whale Restaurant). The onlyl thing Deane’s serves for breakfast is coffee and donuts. Otherwise overall a great place to stay!

OH, we so hope we get to go back someday! Just as everybody else says, there’s more than you could ever want, and the beach is RIGHT THERE. You’re ON it.
The family who runs it are warm, gracious people. The office is so friendly and inviting. You want to just hang in the office, but then you’d miss out on your lovely room!
