Quinsigamond Community College

Quinsigamond Community College offers over 50 Associate Degree programs and over 40 certificate programs in the areas of Business, Engineering and Technology, Health Care and Human Services, Liberal Arts, and General Studies. The College can prepare you for transfer to a bachelor’s level program at a four-​year college or university, or for immediate entry into a career field after graduation.

My kids go to school here and the education is very good. Great value and plenty
of programs. Almost something for everybody. Game Design, Computer
Programming, Nursing and more.

Finished the nursing program (RN) at QCC. The lecture and clinical instructors were wonderful. Almost all of the students in my class passed the NCLEX on the first try. They really prepared us for the boards. I would recommend saving yourself a ton of money and going for associate degree rather than going a straight 4 years for a bachelor degree. You can atleast get a degree, start working in your field and making money, then enroll into a program to further your education. Community colleges are underappreciated!

Went here and graduated this year. Only complaint; climbing the hill to the parking lots for students. It sucks in the winter!

Quinsig is a decent place to go to get your core classes out of the way and then transfer to a state college. Most of the teachers I have had are nice but there are 2 who could use attitude adjustments and they grade based on how much they like you not how well you did the work.
As with all colleges there are some pit falls. Quinsig fails when it comes to the financial aid department. Every time I turned around I needed to submit new paperwork because some where somehow my paperwork would get lost or I would get tagged to verify my information. I thought strange because when I first enrolled I didn’t need to verify anything now suddenly I have to verify everything in triplicate because they lose the first two submissions. Got to the point were I said screw it I won’t bother with financial aid I will pay in installments and figure out a way to pay for it up front, I mean who needs to eat or pay bills right. However Quisig is still demanding I send in verification paperwork for financial aid I no longer want.
So the classes and offerings are cool, the financial department needs an overhaul.

A great place to learn … as long as you don’t need help.
I have decided to write this review after sitting here for 4 hours waiting for I’m not even sure what anymore. I attended QCC last semester, without financial aid. However I am not as fortunate this semester. I attended their information night on the 17^th, I am not sure what that was supposed to even be. I went to save myself the application fee. I went and filled out a yellow sheet of paper, and they gave me a bag with a free pen & frisbee, Then just kind of looked at me awkwardly. So I left. I have now been sitting in their «leaning center» for hours now waiting to be called.
The informational email they sent out implied that I was to make an appointment for today, so I emailed back asking for more details, and how to make an appointment, someone replied to my email with a link to take a placement test, which had nothing to do with my question. I have already taken the placement test. So I figured I would just come down here in person anyway.
I have been given the run-​around between the registrar’s office, the financial-​aid office, and now am waiting for Advising (AGAIN … I think) I have absolutely no idea what I am doing, or how to pay for this, and absolutely nobody has been any help whatsoever. I have all my paperwork in order, my Diploma, Transcripts, and even last semesters schedule and copies of the bills. I don’t understand what is taking so long.
This place is just like Wal-​Mart, if you know what you’re looking for, you can get a great deal. Just as long as you don’t need help, and In true Wally World fashion, there is 1,000 people in line, and 2 registers open.
If you can afford to go somewhere else … do it!!!

I went to this college (yes a community college, is just a college) for two semesters, the only other schooling experience I had before that was my testing for my GED, and high school. I came in expecting all those college cliché movies with half naked girls everywhere and people chilling on a quad studying, VERY misleading. However, not knowing your way around and being lost was actually not a cliché. I asked a professor for directions, and she was very helpful. Fast forward to the end of second semester.
All the professors are very well educated, and do their job unlike high school teachers who are there to babysit you. I really enjoyed the experience at Quinsigamond, I would recommend this school to someone just graduating high school. Before you enroll in any major college, I would suggest taking at least one semester at this school so you know what you’re getting yourself into, it’s a perfect stepping stone.
The last semester I was there, was the last semester they allowed smoking on campus, and back then I was a smoker. I will admit the place was a little out of hand with the smokers, but they did have designated smoking areas, if they just enforced it more I believe they wouldn’t have banned it on campus. That kind of really bugged me that they had to ban it, we’re all adults here and in college, you shouldn’t have to tell someone what to do.
I expected the teaching style to have absolutely no one on one time, again the cliché was proven wrong again! If the teacher or yourself are noticing issues, they will pull you aside or you could ask them for help. They have no problem helping you in any way! I can’t even begin to describe how amazing the experience was, the teachers didn’t keep babying you if they realized you didn’t care, but they also had no problem at least encouraging you.
For the price you get an amazing experience and a really great education for the price.
A few issues, for any previous Quinsig student I’m sure they can agree was Blackboard and The Q… I really can’t explain it, but The Q is just an online database where you can look up your class, and lots of postings on there. It is down for maintenance at least every other day, so I’m sure you won’t learn much about it anyways. I’m not even going to get started on the student parking lot, my only advice is to, GET THERE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE SO YOU CAN GET A GOOD SPOT!
The students I’ve met along the way, old and young were really friendly as well. Since everyone is all grown up there is no «drama». No cliques, everyone is just themselves, just there to get what they paid for!

Community colleges unfortunately used to get a bad rap by those who were brainwashed into paying ridiculous university rates for classes they could take at a community college for one-​eighth of the cost. As our economy continues to decline, more people have been looking towards their community colleges for affordable education and have found that, hey, it’s the same course without the $ 600 mark-​up. This is only proven more by Quinsigamond’s fall ’08 enrollment, which was the highest ever in their entire history.
I am a little ashamed to say that I used to fit into the crowd of people who looked down on community colleges, thinking that I had more intelligence than going to one of those «open to anyone» schools. Personal and family crises, however, had me winding up on Quinsigamond’s doorstep. I was hesitant at first, having been told community colleges are basically «high school 2.0,» but I did not want to fall behind in my education and thus enrolled in classes.
Boy, was I blown away. Quinsigamond’s administration was extremely helpful and responsive (which seems to be a lot different than university administrations, as I hear complaints from four-​year college students about theirs all the time), and I soon found myself in my first college classes. As someone who tends to obsess about her grades, I was a little scared of the college grading system. I was lucky and received one of the easy professors for my first course, who showed me that the college system is almost always fairer than high school and is usually pretty straightforward.
I am now in my second and final year at Quinsigamond with hopes of transferring to Northeastern University’s criminal justice program next fall. I have only continued to be impressed and awed by some of the professors who teach here, intent on giving the best education to us «lowly» CC students. To name a few: Brian Bartolomei, Raphael Njoroge, Gaelan Benway, and Betsy Zuegg. These are professors who have taught at some of the highest-​ranking universities, yet still find the time to bring their experiences, skills, and services to their local community college. They are just some of the few who have inspired me to learn and succeed, engaged me in thinking for myself, and enlightened my life in ways I could never possibly thank them for enough.
There is a reason why community college transfer students are so appealing to four-​year universities. Under dorm life, freshmen are still being cradled and coddled by the system and many drink their way out of college. People who have successfully completed their degrees at community colleges have already proven that they know this game, that they are capable of handling the coursework, and that they are more than likely going to successfully finish their degrees without getting caught up in the partying so prevalent in universities.
Those who attend community colleges also come from all walks of life: parents who only now have the chance to continue their education and better themselves, young adults who are the sole caretakers of a sick family member and thus cannot just leave for university dorm life, immigrants who hope to prove their intelligence and worth to four-​year colleges by first succeeding at a much more affordable school, students who didn’t do their best in high school and are taking their second chance at a school who will not judge them for past mistakes, and intelligent people who understand that getting the first two years out of the way at a community college is just a more logical and cheaper decision.
I am pleased with what I have learned at Quinsigamond, and I am proud of what they have done for the community. Between the advanced courses, Phi Theta Kappa, prestigious professors, courteous and efficient administration, Fuller Student Center, numerous scholarship opportunities, and outstanding library, Quinsigamond is a college to be admired and envied by many. Thank you for everything.
(Just one thing, Quinsigamond: your only flaw is your mediocre gym. Fix that up, and you can take down all of the local four-​years.)
