While I stand by my previous reviews that the staff are a hit or miss(that Matthew dude is still pretty awesome), I had a totally bizarre experience here yesterday that is definitely worth posting. After spending four hours loading our moving truck and experiencing general pandemonium, the hubby and I decided we needed a couple iced coffees before hitting the road. Stopping by their front street location for possibly my final time, I made a dash for the door passing a worker taking out the trash outside to the dumpster.(I should also probably note that in all the years of coming here, I’ve never actually been inside but always went through the drive thru.) I ordered two iced coffees and a donut. While the female staffer was making the coffees, another worker came in from outside, went behind the register and rung me up. He also grabbed the donut for me as well. While waiting off to the side, the dude behind me asked if he had just been outside removing the trash… after nodding yes, he pointed out he had been handling food without washing his hands to which he denied this. …Lightbulb. ‘Dude was literally snaggin’ my donut with trash hands. It wasn’t until –after– he washed his hands. When my coffee came up, they were also totally wrong.(How this happened, I have no idea since she was writing my order on the cups and repeated the order correctly.) So basically, yeah. But no. Not too many things in the foodie world truly horrify me, but the whole not washing hands after handling full trash bags kinda freaks me out. I’ll pass.

This Dunkin location typically serves as my morning stop during the work week. On the rare occasion that I wake up early enough to make a decent breakfast for myself, I still end up driving through for a coffee most days. I have been frequenting this particular location for about 2 years and in the beginning I thought it was the absolute best Dunkin location, the morning crew they had at the time was excellent and I never had any problems. However, similar to most minimum wage paying establishments, the workers tend to come and go. The service is now spotty and you never know what you are going to end up with. Always be sure to check your bag and beverage at the drive through, especially during the morning rush. I have a dairy intolerance and have received coffees with cream on more than one occasion, and sometimes the incorrect breakfast item(unless I order an egg-white flatbread and receive a donut, then I just assume the universe wanted me to eat that sugary goodness)! Yet, the coffee itself is consistently good. The morning crew are very polite and have great etiquette during the ordering process, they always say«Good Morning and thank you for choosing Front St. Dunkin» it’s a nice little added touch. They also don’t harass you if you ask for a hot cup, which adds a star in my book. I’ll be missing this conveniently located Dunkin when I move in a few weeks.

My wife swears by this place, and usually the service is outstanding. But this morning something was seriously wrong. I drove up and ordered two coffees, a breakfast sandwich, and two hash browns. The young man taking the order was extremely pleasant. But when I got to the window, I was handed two coffees by a young woman, charged approximately $ 4, and then she closed the window and walked away. After a wait of several minutes(during which several cars came up behind me) she came back to the window and said, in so many words«what are you still doing here?». I explained that I hadn’t received the sandwich and hash browns I’d ordered. She copped a bit of an attitude and said she hadn’t been told that I’d ordered food as well, and that she hadn’t charged me for them. After another few minutes she charged me $ 8 more. «Is that right?» I said, «$ 8 more for a sandwich and two hash browns?». «Yes» she said indifferently, and turned away. But she came back in a minute, handed me a bag and said with a bigger attitude than before, «Could you pull up out of the way, please?». There wasn’t any place nearby to «pull up» without blocking the line, so I parked. According to the second receipt she’d just given me, she’d charged me for a *third* coffee and a donut as well — an additional $ 3, on top of the price of the sandwich and hash browns. When I looked in my bag, there was no donut(I hadn’t ordered one) and I still hadn’t been given the hash browns — just the sandwich. I walked into the store. Now, at this point I WAS pissed off. I’ll admit that. I think anybody would have been, except maybe Mr. Rogers. But I have a horror of making a scene, and I didn’t want to have one — I just wanted to get things right. And please note, this was NOT a busy time for them; it was nearly noon, and there had been no cars ahead of me when I pulled in. There was only one family of three inside the store, and they were just leaving. Nor did they seem to be understaffed; there were at least three or four people working in the shop. They ended up giving me the hash browns and a refund for the overcharge(although since my receipt was incorrect, I *could* have asked for a complete refund — but I’m not a jerk). They apologized angrily several times, and each time I said«Please don’t mention it, I understand that these things happen.» But they made me feel like I was some sort of unreasonable asshole making a huge scene, and all I was trying to do was correct THEIR mistake. One of the girls at the counter was quite nice, but the one who I suspect is the manager was either really stressed or just in a rotten mood; she made it clear by her attitude that she wanted me to get out as quickly as possible. Just to cap things off, something was wrong with the lid on the hot coffee. So hot coffee dripped all over my hand and my car. By the time I actually got to _drink_the coffee, though, it was cold. I’m not inclined to go there again. Donut Xpress nearby makes much better donuts, and I can make coffee at home much more cheaply. If my wife sends me out for DD again, though, I’ll probably drive a little further and go to a different one.
