i went to the chinese christmas paper cutting class today. all the guy did was cutouts for people. mostly the kids who came in from the kids library. so we did not learn anything, he made hats and cut outs for people. nothing was for christmas. i even had my own scissors but we did not learn how to do anything. this was a waste of my time.

noisy patrons, noisier employees! employees are too timid and uninterested to insist on silence. they are actually worse than the patrons. absolutely impossible to concentrate or study. it is basically a daycare center for kids who aren’t interested in books. a while back, i actually encountered a worker in the children’s room who couldn’t speak english!!! very poorly run! it used to be quite nice when i was a kid. well. that’s what happens when you hire lamebrains to work in a library.

This library is rather small and only have a few selection of books to choose from.
Although I love the fact that they do have a good selection of DVD’s that are kept currently stacked.
The Childrens Room on the third floor is also nice and well adequate for children and their needs.
It not only serves as a library because I recently saw some ads on learning how to ballroom dance here at night on wednesdays.
I havent been to any public library for a long time, and I am quite impressed on how advanced they are now on checking the books out. You just have to place your card on the silver mat near the computer with the books piled on top of each other, then voila they are all checked out! And your receipt comes out automatically and you re done.
WOW!!! talk about quick and easy access… i love it!

First of all, this is part of the Queens Public Library system, not NYPL. Yes, you need a different card.
It’s not open on weekends, hence the loss of 1 star. Oh, and no after hours returns, like they have at the Sunnyside branch. Another star lost.
However, the QPL website is pretty effective for requesting materials from other Queens libraries, and the selection is decent.
Free Wi-​Fi, clean, and self checkout to boot.

The laptop section almost always has a free space.
They have more free newspapers than any library I’ve seen, including the Village Voice.
There isn’t altogether that many things here, but it’s a nice space.
There is a recommended DVD section next to the laptop plugin place. Ghostbusters II has been a hot item recently.

Staten Island, NY
I haven’t been here for several months, so things might have changed, but the cool thing about this place is that sometimes there’s a stack of books in the hallway that’s there for the taking. Yes, folks. FREE books.
Other than that, it’s a usual library. Two floors.
