This joint is less fussy /more accommodating than Ottomanelli, albeit with a different selection and closed Sundays.

Meat was decent, though not great, for the price. Service was a bit standoffish. I typically go over to Butcher Block, but happened to be in the area closer to here. Don’t think I’ll be back.

Love this place. Great service, prices and cuts. Not fancy, but does the job right. Asked for chicken breasts trimmed and sliced into thick cutlets. Saved me at least ½ hour in the kitchen!

We purchased some pork chops and ground beef from here yesterday. Bought four pork chops for $ 10, and 2 lbs of ground beef for $ 6. It would have been $ 16 and some change but they rounded down and made it $ 16 even. That was nice. Cooked the pork chops today and was super impressed. The meat was so tender and tasty! Best pork chops I’ve ever made! This, of course, is coming from someone who has always purchased her meat from supermarkets… What a difference! We’ll come here for all of our meat from now on. Now, the only thing I wasn’t down with was that there was a box on the ground with a big hunk of pork meat in it, and there was a cat walking around… Didn’t think that was very sanitary. For that I’ll take one star off.

Very clean, reasonable pricing, helpful staff! I gave them a try and meat is fresh! I will be going back! I wish their working hours during the week were longer so I can get some meet on my way home.

Somehow I’ve overlooked this place even though I’ve been in the area for some time. Great retail presentation, the prices are solid but there is some variance among the other local competitors. The hamburger is by far the best value in the ‘hood for fresh daily ground beef. I purchased some ground beef as well as some vacio(flap meat, the second part of the ‘skirt’ steak which is great for grilling/fajitas) and the stuff is tasty. Recommended.

I found this place by chance because I went to a dentist nearby. I was immediately impressed by how fresh everything looked. Bought Sirloin steak, beef shank and pork belly and everything was very good. It reminded me of a Greek butcher I used to go to in Astoria. I wish this place is nearby!

Fresh, clean, good prices. Staff is very friendly and they can even recommend how to cook your newly purchased slab. There’s a deli for cold cuts in the back with your average market prices. Top Sirloin, Sirloin, Rib Eye, Porterhouse, NY Strip steak, Filet Mignon were all a hit. We recently bought pork belly, which we home-cured, then cut into thick bacon slices into the broiler… hmmmmmm. I’m drooling thinking about it. I think I’ll try deep frying some next time ;) AND… They have a cat that looks exactly like one of ours! I would say the only downside is they close a little early Mon-Thurs at 6pm. Most people, such as myself get home around or a little after this time.

I Love This Place! Their prices are reasonable, they have a decent selection, the shop is clean, and the people are friendly. They love to give suggestions when I don’t know which steak to buy. They have deli meats and cheeses, marinated and specialty items, eggs, as well as prepacked and frozen items. Recently, I have been getting specially cut bacon which I put in everything! They have a big ol’ hunk of this cured goodness that I tell them to cut into one inch think slices, yummm. The only con, as some people have already mentioned, are their hours. They close at 6 on weekdays, which means I can’t visit during the week and they are closed on Sunday. There have been a few Sundays when I had some good meal options in mind, just to remember that C&J was closed. Womp Womp.

This butcher’s shop has been here for at least 30 years; it definitely has a neighborhood feel, which makes it worth the price to me. The meat is excellent and there is a butcher who speaks Spanish and another who speaks English(true, you may have to wait a few minutes for Spanish, as there are usually only three butchers behind the counter. I also like that I can ask for them to trim the fat, butterfly cutlets, etc. AND can ask for cooking advice!

Very clean place to buy fresh meat. Staff is friendly and very accomodating to consumers needs. This place is way much better than the Ottomenilli which was just a block away. With the same service and products they are more inexpensive and affordable.

this review is specifically to point out that they have frozen packets of fatback in the refrigerators on the back wall, as fatback is a pretty specific and relatively difficult thing to find(it was for me anyway). i almost missed it as the man i was speaking to first handed me a plastic bag full of miscellaneous pork fat pieces. but he then mentioned he also had fatback packets which are square chunks of pork fat from the pigs back. the man i was speaking to knew english but i suspect that that might not be a guarantee every time you walk in there(spanish, latin butcher shop). this place is located about 30 seconds from the 61st street(LIRR, 7 train) train station so it is easily accessible. i cannot speak about the quality of the meat as i only got the fatback.

Great: 1. The price(comparable to most grocery stores around here) Good: 1. The selection.(They’ve got most everything) 2. The service(They’ll cut your meat however you ask, but sometimes the language barrier means they’re only 90% accurate with your English directions) Okay: 1. The hours.(Who stays closed on Sunday? And close at 6 everyday except on Friday, which is at 8)

I love coming home from this butcher. I come home with little packages of meats, baby back ribs, pork sirloin, fresh made sausages. I put on my apron, prep my meat, lay it in my dutch oven and I feel like a truly at home chef as I make my family’s meal. The meats are fresh and Jimmy and Javier are always happy to suggest new things for you to try. Visiting this butcher is like visiting home. If you go there enough, you’ll see what I mean.
