Quick Smog & Test Only

I went in for a smog check, it was quick and painless. Be aware that car wash opens at 830, smog place opens at 9… so that was a little disappointing bc I got there at 830. But I ended up getting a car wash while waiting.

Today I learned that if a car is equipped with an aftermarket cold air intake, it must have a CARB sticker on it. I do not have said sticker. As such, my car failed the test with a TAMPERED overall result. Of course, the tech, seeing that I was missing the sticker and knowing that the test was essentially pointless without it, could have not done the test and not charged me $ 50. But that would be good customer service and we certainly can’t have that. So he proceeded with the test anyway, knowing that it couldn’t possibly pass (even though functionally it passed just fine) and charged me $ 50 for a lesson about yet another bullshit CA regulation that requires stickers for a car to function properly.
The tech said a retest is «only» $ 30 but I’d rather go somewhere else and pay full price (which is exactly what I’ll be doing after I get the sticker) than give this asshole more of my money.

At first tried not to honor the Unilocal check in, but in the end did the right thing. Be careful and make sure to ask about the deal before paying. They were quick and got the smog check done

I took my truck in and it did not pass he told me that when I get it fixed to bring it back an will retest for free. It a little while to fix it had to replace the engine. I took it back he told me without even testing it that in would not pass that putting a different engine in it will not fix the problem and said to retest he would charge me because it had been a while. He did not test it because his machine could not communicate with my truck. I took it to Woodland smog and it passed with flying colors. I think he just did not want to do the work and was a jerk. I had a very bad experience at the oil change place next door. Even though I originally came here for a smog check, I decided to get an oil change since the smog check guy wasn’t open yet and I had a $ 10 off coupon. I have a lengthy review of the oil change folks on their Unilocal page. I wanted to express the portion of the review that has to do with this place.
I walk up to the smog check guy and tell him I was here for the smog check and told him that the oil change folks said the check engine light was on and that you will not do a smog check (even though I have a coupon for service and am willing to pay for it). I expected SOME professionalism. Instead I got a cranky old man. «They did you a favor, I could take your money and I didn’t. I’m doing you a favor. Just go! You won’t pass a smog check.» OMFG!!! I mean, do you really think it’s ok to talk to your customers this way?! «just go!» really?! I get that I probably need some work on the car. I get that I had a pissed off look on my face when dealing with the oil change people. But in my defense, I totally held it all in and did my best not say anything other than asking about my car. So I told the guy he was very unprofessional and did not need to talk to me this way and left.
I then went to a smog check place in Davis near my work and was in and out with no problems. Now here is what I think these people that run the Smog check/​oil change/​car wash are up to. They get you in with the coupon but don’t want to honor it, unless you pay for a bunch of additional services. They have TERRIBLE customer service from the first moment you walk in until you leave. There should be a health violation for the cashier not washing her hands between touching trash and making popcorn for customers. (stay away from the popcorn!) There is litter ALL OVER the parking lot and nobody cares enough to pick up. The whole experience left me regretting going here to save some money on a smog check.
I will NEVER go back to this place and will make sure all of my friends and family know how terrible they are. You WILL get ripped off here!

So it says here that they are open until 5:30 however the owner tells me when i arrive at 5:10 that he only rents the place to this company and they are closed! However we went back the next day and they were open an happy and helpful. Good place

$ 38.24 out the door, including certificate! Free popcorn and coffee, and for a buck, you can get a massage from the massage chair in the lobby. There were no cars ahead of me, and I was out in about 20 minutes. I’ll be back next time. It is across the street from Costco at the car wash place.
