Builders Interiors

Great place! My husband was doing our floors himself. The owner was the person who helped us; was great with answering all of our questions and explaining our options. We love the wood floor product and our tile. Will be returning for backslash materials.

Ty Mortenson was referred to me by my neighbor when I started looking at estimates for a kitchen remodel. I’ve never done anything this big (tear out of counter tops and back splash, new install with new appliances). When Ty came over to give me the estimate, I felt confident that he would do the job correctly and liked his communication style as I’m a person that travels for my job and needs someone that can work within timelines. The estimate came in right on target from other estimates I had received from Costco, Home Depot and other general contractors. Builder’s Interiors is near my home vs. going down to Georgetown to look at samples. Overall first impressions were very positive.
Then came the reality of the project… from that point on I never saw nor dealt with Ty again… communication on the project was centralized over the phone through Teresa Mortenson, Builders Interiors (Ty’s wife). Workers at my home who actually did the remodel did their part and exhibited professionalism… they all seemed like pros and good at their jobs. However at times they were confused/​frustrated… they asked me who was the general contractor on the job and when I called and asked Teresa she told me I was the general contractor! ;) Okay, so after getting over that shock, there were mistakes with the slab size and install plans that needed to be addressed, the workers seemed frustrated dealing with Teresa… not sure where Ty was during all of this but my assumption is working on another job.
Teresa tried to change the timeline for the work that Ty and I agreed to. I politely reminded Teresa (as I had already communicated to Ty) that I would be traveling the large part of March so if they couldn’t stick to the plan, they’d need to finish in April which meant I would not have a usable kitchen for over a month. This project was riddled with disorganization, mistakes that were half ass handled and never addressed after I paid in full, poor time management and communication between client, workers and Teresa.
The sad part about all this is I’d planned on using Ty for new wood flooring and my neighbor (who recommended Ty in the first place) went with another company for their kitchen remodel because of my story. And the sad part of this story is how they handled or viewed the problems after the job was finished which couldn’t have been more than a couple of hours max work to fix. I called, emailed and crickets on their side, no response like they didn’t know me! They never bothered to call or write back with a yes or it will cost you this or no, Wow just Wow! I even told them I’d give them a chance to correct this otherwise I’d write this review on Unilocal and Facebook.

Since the review, I had one issue arise. I called and it was solved quickly and with no problems. This is a business that stands by it’s work!

Builders Interiors gave me a beautiful kitchen remodel at a great price. We had a couple of glitches here and there, however, they were quickly and professionally resolved. I am planning a bathroom tile job with them and I look forward to working with them.

We recently re-​carpeted our basement. Our original plans were to only carpet the large rec room, but we were so happy with the pricing we received that we ended up carpeting the entire basement. I told the owners what I wanted to achieve and they recommended a brand and type of carpet that really works for this space, they clearly know what they are doing. Our interactions with Builders Interiors were great and the installation went smoothly. We couldn’t be happier with our experience. I highly recommend this business and wouldn’t hesitate to use Builders Interiors again!

To sum it up: Even Comcast has more regard for a customer’s time.
If you want to have to chase them around every step in the process, and then deal with their apathy, get your schedule jacked around constantly without even the most minute apology, have it take 4x longer than they promised to do very basic work, deal with mistakes that end up feeling like your fault somehow, and maybe have them scoot out of town for a week in the middle of your project without telling you — then yeah, you can get some tile or carpet from these folks.
I would not recommend using this company. Our experience was frustrating and painful. They are unreliable, disorganized, make mistakes at every turn, have poor time management, and have poor ability to communicate with customers. Highlights:
–In March, we worked with them to pick out some carpet and some tile. They said that they could get the job done within a month. Shortly after inking the deal, they left town. We were unable to get in touch with them for over a week. When they finally returned, we got a paltry: «Oh, sorry. We never get to go on vacation.» As if that is the point. We are not vacation scrooges, we just don’t want to be up a creek with no paddle. I assumed someone must have died or something for them to so suddenly skip out on our project mid-​stream with no phone call or email. The response was, «Well, if you want to go ahead and hire then other company, then fine.» If they had just been truthful about their plans to be unavailable, we would have felt very differently. We were left completely in the dark and then had to deal with an attitude about how it affected us.
–It still took three days to get them to get organized and provide an official estimate on the next piece of the project. My wife had to call them 4 times in one day because they kept having other priorities (read: disorganized). Each call she was told that she would receive the estimate in email within the hour, and this lasted all day. This was simultaneously going on, while the wife-​owner was pressuring us to hurry and make a decision because they were going to raise their prices the next day. In short, you have to chase them around and it is absolutely frustrating that they can’t even get organized enough to deliver on the most basic of promises.
–They were never on time for a single appointment. Their tile installers and their carpet installer was able to be on time, but getting measurements, estimates, old carpet removal, etc. is handled by the owner, and he is disorganized and late. And he doesn’t call. If you seem bothered that he has no regard for your time, then he basically shrugs his shoulders and demonstrates a «deal with it» attitude. Extremely apathetic to how the work affects his customers. No regard or respect for time. And he left jagged metal staples sticking out of every one of our stairs for almost 2 weeks. Just getting our toddler up and down the stairs was a hazard. But again, no one’s going to care about that because they only people who matter in this project are the owners of Builders Interiors.
–They still miscalculated a cut and flubbed an entire piece of carpet. We were supposed to get an area rug from the extra piece, but the mistake ruined the rest of the carpet. And of course, when we tried to talk to the owner about the mis-​cut (absolutely his mistake), he had his usual «deal with it» attitude and was very difficult to talk to because of his poor communication skills and apathy for customer service. They had already spent an entire week binding a piece of carpet that was cut 5 inches too short. How does this even happen? It’s not like it’s complex math. Measure… double check… cut. Bind. He even had the old runner laying on top of the new carpet as a template. How does one cut this incorrectly? The worst part is the affect on our schedule and the fact that they absolutely DID NOT CARE that they had messed it up. We got a robotic, «Sorry for the inconvenience.»
–For three days, we got the run-​around on the landing. Meanwhile, we are dealing with sharp, exposed metal staples on the stairs. We burned three days waiting for them to remedy the problem. Two different times, we set up appointments and made ourselves available for the install, only to get a voicemail in the last 15 minutes before arrival time rescheduling. When we voiced our concern about how this was affecting our schedule, we got no response.
I’d say that the final result is acceptable — I mean, yeah, we have carpet on the stairs now and tile in the bathroom, but the frustration we felt over the lack of concern, disorganization, unreliability made the experience 100% painful. And perhaps the most disappointing is how their MO is to just shurg their shoulders and not acknowledge anything that went wrong. And of course, there’s no discount for the fact that they ruined the area rug piece or jacked us around so much. We got the full bill without an apology.
