Degrasse Dance Studio Home of Potomac Ballet Schol

Degrasse is a class act. The core to dance is ballet and this studio focuses on that. My daughter loves the ballet and pointe classes. She is also very involved with the many other dance styles offered at this studio. Lyrical, Jazz and Hip Hop are just a few. The owner is a genuinely compassionate instructor and pushes her dancers to do their very best and does it in a classy and compassionate manner. You won’t see these girls gyrating with tons of makeup on for their competition dances like some of the other dance studios in the area.

Unorganized as owner has difficulty managing two locations. Does not address issues in a timely manner. Not enough instructors and some classes extremely large and difficult to manage. Often, no options for a given class offered and may conflict with other class times. Not all teaching instructors are adults and that caused several problems with bad behavior/​bullying with kids and inability to correct said behavior. I brought to the attention of the owner on more than one occasion and she was threatening and refused to address the problem. Pulled my kids and would not return. Families of other students, many are quite lovely and the few poorly behaved kids do not reflect the children as a whole. Often feel as if you are floundering without leadership or direction.

If you are looking for competitive dance, DeGrasse is a great option with reasonable prices (unlike many area studios!). The owner keeps the competitions local, costumes reasonable, and most importantly, it’s all age appropriate. The training, particularly for tap, is good, with small classes and individual attention. Communication is also easy, with the owner being very easy to talk to with any concerns.
They have many recreational classes for younger children or those who do not wish to do dance competitions, as well as a Christmas Nutcracker and spring performance.
The Woodbridge studio is small and a bit worn, but don’t let the appearance deceive you– the quality of instruction is what matters, not the building. At least for me! There is another studio in Haymarket that is brand spanking new, if that’s a concern.
My daughter decided to pursue different things, but if she wanted to return to competitive dance, we would definitely come back here. We looked at virtually every competitive studio in the area and none compared for the quality of training, value and caring at DeGrasse.
