We had an absolutely great time at Chapparal! Dennis was a great host and the place is just beautiful! Our cabin was perfect for our needs — felt like a log cabin with modern amenities. We had: heat, AC, bathroom, shower, bed, and kitchenette(sink, fridge, utensils, toaster, coffee maker). It gets better… Outside we had a deck, a few chairs, picnic table, Weber grill and a firepit. Plus lots of trees and perfect amount of cover allowing us to string up a few hammocks! How perfect! The place itself is beautiful. Hilly, good distance between spots, and it obviously attracts friendly folks. There are a few trails for hiking and good sized pond with a swimming area, canoes to borrow, and plenty of fish to lure! They have a pool too but our visit came after it was closed for the season. Being 20 – 30 mins from the Dells is nice, but we didn’t find much reason to leave! Thanks again to Dennis and the Chapparal folks. We’ll be seeing you very regularly.

We stayed at Chapparal Sunday — Thursday. It was pretty quite during the week. There was someone in our spot, but we went and talked to the office. To remedy it, they told us all of the open spots, and let us pick whichever one we wanted, which was nice. The layout of the camping areas on the hill was really nice, we had so much room, and the spots were pretty private! The views were great. There was a pond area, but we didn’t use it. They did offer canoeing and paddle boating at the pond. The pool was clean and refreshing. The garbage areas around the campsite were emptied regularly, and there was always staff around, if you needed anything. The only downside was that you had to pay to use the showers in the shower house, which is why we took away one star. The campground is only a few miles away from the ‘400’ trail, and only 40⁄45 minutes from Devil’s Lake and Mirror Lake State Parks(Devil’s Lake was WAY better, so if you have to choose, go to Devil’s Lake), and about 30⁄35 minutes from Wisconsin Dells. When we stayed, they had a weekday special, buy 3 nights, get 1 free, which was definitely worth it, but the prices were really good anyway, even without the free night. Much better rates and environment than some of the more commercial campgrounds in the area. If we go to this area again, we will definitely stay at Chapparal again!
