House Rabbit Network

I have been in contact with the house rabbit network for about 3 years now. They are an organization of angels. If you are considering adopting, I highly recommend you go through them. And please, don’t support breeders.

Getting a pet is a process. I knew I wanted a rabbit for a long time, but I never had the chance due to my living arrangements. I moved into a rabbit-​friendly apartment and decided that I wanted to call up HRN to talk about adopting a bunny. So I started off by calling the hotline and got a call back from Nancy in VT. We started off just talking about what I was looking for and then had my interview. During the interview, she asked what it meant to bunny proof, what type of litter I would use, etc. After she asked how far I would go to meet bunnies. I sent her names of bunnies I liked and asked her to send me info on bunnies near me. I got responses to meet Stella, Rue, Olivia, Gracie, Max and Giselle, along with a ton of bunnies in Billerica. It only took a couple days to hear back from the foster homes. I met Rue, Gracie, and Olivia in Kingston NH. They were sweet but I started thinking I wanted a bonded pair so that they could keep each other company while I was at work. Max and Giselle were in an hour and a half away, but the foster mom was willing to bring them a half hour away to a closer foster home. I fell in love with them. I found a sore on Max’s foot before adopting him, so they paid for the vet care and are still doing so even after adopting since he got the sore in foster care. HRN is awesome at responding to emails and everyone is so friendly and great to deal with. It feels like I am part of the family now. They are very honest about the bunnies and their habits and their personalities. If you want a pet rabbit, this is the place to go!

My boyfriend and I discussed what type of pet would best suit our lifestyle (working 8 hours a day, living in an apartment) we are both dog people but recognized that it just would not be a good environment for us or a dog. After doing quite a bit of research we found that a rabbit would be great with our lifestyle especially if the temperament matched what we were looking for. I was adamant about adopting as opposed to buying like one reviewer said, they’ve seen a vet, have been cared for and really need a home as it is they’re last chance.
After getting the run around from the Boston MSPCA (the volunteers were just not knowledgeable about the process and the bun we were interested in was adopted in the mean time) we decided to do a local search.
We came across the House Rabbit Network that had a variety of adoptable rabbits. Our favorite was Twix, so we contacted the Network and within a week’s time span we met with the foster family who were extremely helpful/​kind/​informative about Twix and rabbits in general. I can’t write enough to show how helpful and kind the entire family was along with the volunteers! We plan on keeping in contact with the foster family with updates and pictures, they were kind enough to give us their email for any questions regarding Twix.
If you’re thinking about getting a rabbit I wouldn’t look any further than the House Rabbit Network!

When my hubby and I were talking about getting a pet, he talked a lot about the bunny he’d had as a kid. We’re both allergic to cats and he’s allergic to most dogs. Knowing that he didn’t have a problem with rabbits and was so enamored with them is what drove our decision to get one.
We decided to adopt rather than buy one from a pet store for a number of reasons: 1 — by adopting we knew we’d be saving an animal who literally had no other options left, 2 — they’d have already been to the vet and checked out and fixed, 3 — the volunteers had a lot of time with them and knew their habits and personalities and could tell you just about everything you could ever want to know.
We decided on a small bun — Udon — and took him a week after we met him. He has quickly taken over our life and we all know who runs this house now. Having never had one as a pet, I had no idea what bringing a bunny home would be like, but I’m so glad we made this decision.

I was looking for a bunny friend for my first bun, Charlie, and found a wonderful little monster, Lydia. I didn’t have the easiest time bonding Charlie and Lydia. However House Rabbit Network volunteers gave a lot of great advice, were available to answer questions, and called to follow up. Now it’s groom groom groom, cuddle, cuddle, cuddle all day long!
If you’re thinking of getting a rabbit, please please check out the House Rabbit Network. The HRN takes in bunnies whose time has expired at shelters and places them into private homes of individual volunteers. Getting a bun from a foster home ensures your bun is far more cared for and socialized bun than a bun from a shelter or a pet store. Also you can get a more accurate idea of a bun’s personality, habits, needs, etc.
My buns have been such a positive addition to our home and the HRN so wonderful that I even fostered a bun with them.
If you already have a house bun, the volunteers are extremely knowledgeable regarding health issues, finding good bunny vets, and are willing to answer any bunny-​related question.

This is a wonderful organization. When I called with an interest in adopting a rabbit they were very helpful and took a lot of time to figure out which rabbit would be the best match for our family. After meeting several, we adopted a big white bunny and he is really great. He has perfect litterbox habits, does not chew our furniture and is very gentle with kids. I am so glad I decided to adopt our rabbit from them and would encourage others to support this great organization.

I called in to get another rabbit so my female rabbit would have a buddy. I spoke with a volunterr for a while about the process and what is really involved when getting another rabbit. The following weekend I went to the House Rabbit Network with Bunny (Rabbit) to get her a friend. Suzanne was really helpful there in judging who would be good together. She was really attentive and explained the process of bonding. Bunny met several rabbits and the perspective men were widdled down. It came down to two guys and one was quickly eliminated when he started to chase her to have some humpy fun time. That left us with JJ, who we renamed to Jack (Rabbit), and since then Jack and Bunny have been great together.
The people at HRN are great. I have emailed Suzanne questions since I got Jack and she has provided responses quickly.
If you are ever considering a rabbit PLEASE, PLEASE contact them or another shelter.

These people deserve ten stars for the work they do saving bunnies. I’m proud to be a member.
If you are interested in a rabbit, they will educate you. Also, any rabbit you get from them will be neutered/​spayed. Your rabbit will behave so much better and, most, importantly, will not make more rabbits if you have a pair.
Cats and dogs get the press and the paid-​for shelters. Most bunny rescue is done out of the private homes of devoted foster parents. These people really are commendable
Rabbits are abandoned every day by people who lack the patience to understand these wonderful animals. They are a lot of work if you treat them properly, but they are totally worth it. HRN has saved so many bunny lives. Please adopt, don’t buy, you’ll be glad you did! I know I am (proud mom of two).

This is such a great organization. It is a network of volunteer run foster homes, so their isn’t one central location. They span the greater Boston and Worcester area, but will adopt anywhere in New England. They offer so many bunnies better lives and take really good care of them until they can find their forever homes. The bunnies are all fixed and vetted. I adopted my bunny from the Wilmington location and couldn’t be happier. If you are looking to adopt a bunny, this is DEFINATELY the place to go.
