History

Established in 1951.

The original Mead Inn was built in 1951 by the local paper mill, Consolidated Paper that was owned by the Mead family thus the name Mead Inn.

In 1978 an expansion was added to the Mead Inn and the name changed to Hotel Mead. That expansion included the Atrium Tower with 69 new rooms and elevators for the five story interior, an additional restaurant (Café Mulino) along with the new indoor swimming pool. The pool was a first in this part of Wisconsin at the time.

In 1998, the original 1951 building was demolished to make room for the new West Wing that was designed to look like a modern four story indoor corridor hotel. Along with that expansion, the Grand Avenue Tavern was added and all parts of the hotel were then connected under one roof in a very large building.

In 2009, the hotel underwent a multi-million dollar major renovation in all areas. The hotel has had four different ownership groups in its illustrious history and each carried on Mr. Mead’s vision of hospitality.
