An octagonal fort! Who knew they even existed? For $ 3 a person for non residents you can visit this cool little place. Like most lighthouses and forts in the area — it’s a pretty big space complete with grassy knolls and picnic tables overlooking the fabulous coastline. Maybe you are visiting Maine during non-beach weather but still want to soak up the scenery — you could easily spend a few hours picnicking, checking out the grounds and relaxing. This fort also has some good brochures and fun facts about the history. Nothing too lengthy or boring — but you will learn a thing or two! Don’t miss the old time graffiti carved into the fort too. See if you can find the initials from 1912 right next to the ones from 2012 :)
