Specialties

The Clayground is a working pottery studio and gift shop featuring locally made crafts including a variety of decorative and functional, food-​safe pottery, beeswax candles, goatmilk soaps, jewelery, woodworking, knitwear, and much more. The studio offers lessons as well as group parties and events for both children and adults. Custom orders and commissions are welcome.

Except for Saturdays, hours are very irregular during the summer so please call before you come by if you want to be sure the shop is open.

History

Established in 2007.

The Clayground started in a 400 square foot studio in a neighboring building. After two years we moved to the current location which afforded us more space and a retail area.

This place is amazing. I took my kids to make Mother’s Day gifts. Rebecca, the owner was very patient and friendly to my 2-​year-​old son and 5-​year-​old daughter as we all made ceramic insects for my wife’s garden. I am about the least artistic person I know so I really had no clue what I was doing, but Rebecca was incredibly helpful. The kids had such a great time. My daughter especially is dying to go back. Your imagination is the only limitation, really. The owner called me when our materials were done. They look great. I can’t believe how inexpensive it was considering the memorable experience my kids have. Can’t wait to come up with an excuse to return.

The Clayground is a wonderful place to shop for artsy crafts and awesome local pottery. Have frequented the Clayground for about a year and my collection of wall hangings, hand crafted wooden utensils, cutting board shine brightly in my home. Rebecca (owner) recently made an awesome kitchen utensil holder and I love it. Check this place out and Linus the house dog rocks.

I love going to the Clayground! It is in the great town of Winters and the studio is bright and full of wonderful, locally made crafts. Rebecca is really fun to work with and is full of suggestions if you need a little help. It is a wonderful place to play with clay and create one of a kind pieces. It is always a treat to go there and I highly recommend it for an outing!

This is the most awesome shop in Winters. It’s a great place to go to buy gifts and also cool stuff for yourself. There aren’t a lot of shops in the area like this. It’s definitely worth the drive from Davis or Woodland to check it out and buy some great items.

The Clayground is a wonderful place to find unique, hand-​crafted gifts, as well as a place to make your own. After playing with clay for a couple of hours, you’ll feel as though you’ve been on vacation — totally absorbing, totally fun, with patient and skillful instruction from Rebecca. I’ve celebrated two of my birthdays there with friends. Everyone had a great time creating something in clay to take home. Do check it out.

Looks like a fun place. The very reason I stopped in Winter on my drive to Oregon. Unfortunately, the studio is not open on Tuesdays even though the chalkboard rooster said «Open» on the front door!
Maybe I startled the woman coming through the door when I stepped in, maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she was preoccupied but, rude is rude. She welcomed the gentleman with the dog moments later with a bright smile and invited him inside. Hmmm.
A rockin’ burger at Putah Creek Café some retail therapy at the Fabric Carosel and the rebuke didn’t sting near as much.

If you are coming to Winters, make sure you stop by the Clayground — it’s one of the gems of this charming town. We’ve been there for a birthday party (the kids were able to make their own pottery) and for browsing and purchasing one of a kind gifts.
