Polk State College

I have been to this school several times with my student.
Campus — not exactly in the greatest areas for a college. The neighboring homes are rundown, unkept with trash flowing. Teachers warn the students not to wander off campus because the neighborhood is unsafe. The campus is clean. Can’t comment on classrooms.
Registration — I understand it’s students working at the counter and more than likely have no prior experience. With that said, compared to the counseling I’d say I’d rather interact with them — as a parent. However, every time my student has asked for any help it’s as if they have the mentality they don’t have to help much because they are a student. Here’s where you’ll hear me repeat the same phrase,
«No, not everyone at your school is receiving a ‘free’ education via financial aid from the government. Yes, my student paid for a large portion of units and I paid the remainder. When your school is receiving funds whether you view it as welfare-​ish or out of their own pocket, dear school you are providing a SERVICE ($ 3k plus/​semester) and there’s a WHOLE LOT OF ALTERNATIVES!»
(I’d italicize and bold this phrase but my smart phone is not well educated)
Counseling — When the people at registration tell you specifically not to talk to the lady at the counseling center counter because, «She don’t know what she doing or talking about» they know because they are students! Guess what, they’re on point! She doesn’t have a clue… Again, read my phrase above. It’s applicable hear as well.
Teachers — Here’s where there’s the good and then the ugly. See, that phrase above? No? Here it is again,

On the first day of class, my student recorded class as allowed. Uneducated educator! This teacher has the mindset that ALL your students are receiving financial aid ‘welfare-​ish’ and it’s not their own money being «wasted» so this teacher doesn’t care. This teacher refuses to provide addition personal assistance, no office hours available! Hey teacher, does it matter if your paycheck is made available to you by students/​parents funds vs the government? In essence, if you have the mindset all are on aid yet required to attend your, for lack of a better word, «class» then are you not on government assistance for receiving funding from the government for attending the same –sorry– class? It really is a ripple affect. Take away the ‘welfare’ students, take away the uneducated educator pay… Supply and demand, something you should be able to derive a formula from. :) One little teacher can leave such a bad taste in your mouth that it ruins it for the rest. Similar to the ‘bad students’ that have made you no longer care about education. Hey, I know, you didn’t sign up for this crap, right? Well, actually you did. Not every little student is going to come into your classroom without the need to be educated. If they did, they wouldn’t have been placed in your class via the placement exam. Just think about that for a moment. And one more moment. P-​L-​A-​C-​E-​M-​E-​N-​T, never mind, you get my drift. You wouldn’t be there if these welfare-​ish students were all a tad smarter. Make sense? Again, supply and demand. If you can’t derive the formula then go up to that little center that helps students. Damn it, when you’re done there don’t even think of coming back uneducated because if you do that means *gasp* you didn’t study enough! You have forgotten the fundamentals of being an educator. Instead it’s just a paycheck. It’s quite clear by student opinions. Do yourself a favor, as well as any future students, and just let go of that welfare check and retire — collect the non-​welfare check you earned from dealing with your (one more time just for theatrical purposes, wait for it…) *gaspppp* welfare students. I believe you qualify.
However, in all fairness, my student has commented on the positives for a few other teachers. Yes, my student is actually studying enough to earn pretty good grades. Oddly, my student studies more for the ONE bad teacher’s class than cumulatively for the remaining full time class schedule.
I find it imperative that any student that reads this review know I am not classifying anyone that receives any type of government aid a ‘welfare’ student. No, it is an instructor who stated that your education was not at your expense thereby it was not your money he was wasting if you need to repeat said class. See, I was a ‘welfare’ student while receiving my degree. I was also a student that graduated with my BA and $ 50,000 in student loan debt. It is YOUR money.
