Stopped into this place for breakfast while in the area. It’s a quaint little stop-in diner/deli that you can find just about anywhere. This is not what makes this place unique. What sets it aside is the proprietor. Walking in comes with a warm greeting from the charismatic cook. Conversation flows easily and it’s easy to feel that you are a friend or at the very least, a longtime customer. The food was excellent an made behind the counter in open view. Easily customizable to your specifications and options and helpful opinions are readily available. I went with a basic egg and cheese sandwich and it was just how I enjoy it, roll lightly buttered, and toasted/grilled next to my eggs. It came up hot, fast, and delicious. Also, a small note, two eggs on the sandwich(as opposed to the often seen one egg and overpowering amount of bread.) This place is a great stop in, and be sure to talk to the chef on the grill. He’s a one man show that really makes this place ring of 50’s television Americana!

Stumbled upon this place last weekend and was pleasantly surprised! I’ve never been to Winstead but I now have a place to recommend if anybody asks. I walked into Spillway at 8:30am on a Saturday and was met with friendly locals and the irresistible smell of cooking bacon and frying eggs. The coffee was good but the egg sandwich off the charts(when was the last time you had an egg sandwich with 2 eggs!) The young teens serving us were slow and disinterested but the guy working the grill was so personable it kind of made up for it. Felt like a local!

I like this place it kind of has a cool old time diner/snackbar feel to it. Nothing fancy, good versions of the basics. They have the best Meatballs! They even won a prize for them. However, check and make sure they have them before you make the trip.

New owners. Great food. Terrible teenage service. Pancakes were awesome: fluffy and light and filled with fruit. The eggs were all cooked perfectly to order and weren’t greasy at all. Excellent coffee and good bacon according to my father and his friends. Service was abysmal, though, as the waitresses were only 16 and obviously untrained. We had to ask for butter twice(it didn’t come on the pancakes), they had to ask for cream every time they got coffee, after sitting at a cleared table for 20 minutes, my father had to get up and ask for the check. When he asked one of the teenagers for the check, she told him to go ask the other girl… There is also a sign that says they have«lake-side dining». I saw two off-balance picnic tables across the street… A neighbor has also gone for the Thursday night spaghetti special and was really happy with the pasta and the sauce. Hopefully they will work the kinks out with service soon… the food is great!
