Casa Blanca Cafe On East Route 66

This place was not good at all. Service was great but not the food. Will not go back when I’m in Winslow.

Went in looking for Navajo Tacos and was greatly disappointed. Quality and flavor were surprisingly low and there isn’t much else in Winslow now. Not really worth the stop!

Had the combo fajitas w/​2 waters. Check came to $ 18 and change. Left $ 3 tip for ok service. Checked account summery and they charged me $ 25 and change. Food was very good, just can’t abide being robbed.

My Parents and I come here quite often only because it’s the only Mexican restaurant closest to us (we live exactly 1 hour away from this place). Before, the red sauce used to taste funny. My Pop’s (Dad) didn’t seem to mind it. I minded very much because I’m an extremely picky eater. If it taste funny and smells funny, most likely I will not eat it. Because of the red sauce, I refrained myself from ordering enchilada style. BUT NOW, the red sauce is awesome! They switched up their sauces and I’m enjoying it very much. The only downside about this place though is the service. I know that when it gets a bit too crowded and/​or they are understaffed, things do take awhile. But to put that part aside, I’m not too fond of the woman that works there. She always looks at me weird when I order. The last meal I ate there was a grilled chicken salad. On the menu, the salad came with: olives, tomatoes, onions, guacamole, peppers and croutons with your choice of dressing. As I said, I’m very picky. And at that time, I wasn’t really in the mood for all those things except: tomatoes, croutons and ranch. When I ordered just those specific things, she asked if I just wanted the grilled chicken. I specifically told her no olives, onions, guacamole, or green peppers. She stood there looking down at me like «Can’t you just pick out the stuff that you don’t like?» I gave her a hard stare back until she got the hint that she should probably write it down and walk away. I was already having a hard evening that night; and to be frank, her attitude sorta brought me down a bit more. When she brought my salad, I saw there were no croutons. When I told her I was missing croutons, she gave me that look like «Why do you want croutons when you took out almost everything in your salad.» When she brought them to me, there were only 5 in a tiny bowl that was the same size of my ranch dressing bowl. As soon as My Dad saw how much more fed up I was getting, he grabbed my 5 croutons, went up to the counter where she goes to ignore all the needy diners, he asks her «Is this all the croutons she gets?» If My Dad didn’t look so intimidating, she may have only given him two more croutons. When My Dad returned, there was a pretty big handful in that itty-​bitty bowl. But the service for the rest of the evening was scarce. She dropped the ticket off and hurried away without asking us if we needed anything else (ex: a to-​go box or to-​go cups). She played cashier and made sure she gave us a lot of ones to tip her. If I re-​call, we only tipped her $ 2. We normally tip $ 8-​$ 10; but with her attitude? Psh! It wasn’t going to happen. I just really hope that us tipping her $ 2 would only inform her that she needs to work on her waiting skills. The reality is, it never gets looked at this way.

Horrible. If I could give a half star, I would. Food was bland, lukewarm and seemed like it came out of a can. Service was rude, but once the owner came out to check, tried seem as friendly as a dog. And tell me why the food came out on a hot plate but was cold in the middle? Can somebody say frozen microwave meals!!!

We went here because we went to «stand on the corner in Winslow Arizona» now being what it’s worth Mexican food out in the middle of nowhere, it was exactly what you would think it was. Crummy food. The service was fine the owners were very sweet, but the food was sloppy, watery sauce and not all that good for the price. I hate McDonald’s but would rather have eaten there

Quite disappointed. When we first stopped here 2 years ago, I had great blue corn enchiladas and every visit since has been going down hill. No more blue corn enchiladas on the menu. The tortillas taste like the grocery store and the red chili sauce tastes like it came out of a can of tomato paste with a little cinnamon tossed in. We won’t be coming here again. Sorry.

The previous reviews were very misleading. I guess everyone has different tastes because this food was very bland, the taco shell tasted like old oil, the meat had no seasoning and a faint odor that hinted at spoiling meat. But, the service was great and the beer hit the spot! Good luck on your visit!

Locally owned — not much for ambiance, the service is a roll of the dice — sometimes excellent other times you could serve yourself faster, but the food is excellent and the daily specials are very good at a great price… my favorite here, believe it or not, is the meatloaf!

Great food and great service! Love to support family owned restaurants. Highly recommend.

Hard to find! Service was rude to non existent!
The salsa and chips when I finally got the, well the salsa taste like fish! How? I have no idea! I thought it was the chips, that they had been fried in same vat as fish but it was the salsa, it was awful! Could not eat it!
Ordered the combination platter, green sauce. I will admit I wanted to hate the food because things started out so bad, unfortunately I did not!
The corn tortillas where definitely store bought that part I did not care for but the rest of the platter was not bad. The beef was tasty. The beans and rice just average at best.
I did not hate this but would not drive out of my way for the food or the rude/​non existent service.

This is a fantastic old-​timey café with wonderful friendly staff who treat you like family. The food is diverse and delicious. You can get dishes that are hard to find anywhere else (blue corn enchiladas), and not just Mexican. I had liver & onions, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, a fresh green salad and a beer – all for under $ 10. Oh yes, they get you started with chips and great fresh salsa. A super find with the spirit of old Winslow!

I’m afraid Unilocal failed us on this one. We were driving from the Grand Canyon to Santa Fe, NM along Route 66 and needed a place to stretch our legs and have a bite to eat — this place got pretty good reviews so we decided to check it out.
Something felt strange from the start, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. It was Saturday night at 7pm, we walked in and doubled the crowd (the 2 of us made 4 people in the whole place). A server immediately greeted us, and was quick to come back and take our order. I ordered the Navajo taco based on the reviews I read.
The food came really quickly. It was lukewarm. The sopaipillas tasted like they were fried in some really old oil and everything else just tasted kind of… blah. After a few bites, I just lost my appetite.
It wasn’t until we were leaving the restaurant that I looked around and realized what was so strange about the place — there were NO sounds of cooking and NO cooking smells coming from the kitchen. In fact, it didn’t even look like the lights were on in there. Were we served old food that was just reheated in the microwave? Gross.

Good mix of Mexican and New Mexican style food. Nothing beats Southern California Mexican food, but this was good. A good stop on the way to/​from Albuquerque!

Well, I guess our money wasn’t green enough. Wait, what color are pesos? Anyway, walked in at 7:0 on a Friday night. No one spoke. Awkward looks. We seated ourselves and waited. Waited. Waited. Oh here comes some chips and salsa… Not to us. Ok. Finally some big Mexican woman throws chips and salsa down and says «we’re really busy». Ok fine. Chips were stale. Salsa was bland. Never took our drink order. We got up and left.

Nothing really stood out here. Food was fine, nothing special — although the free chips and salsa were a cut above. The salsa in particular seemed homemade, with chuncks of onion and stuff. They weren’t cheap with refills, either. YUM!
I had chicken fajitas and my sister had the chicken sopapilla. Everything was fine, but nothing to write home about.
Ambiance was a little weird — when we came in around 4pm on a Friday afternoon, there was one other table, and no music or anything playing. I would call the ambiance borderline grim, actually.
But overall, it was fine. Clean, friendly service, reasonable prices.

Great lunch. Stuffed sopapilla with a side of rice and beans and fried bread. Yum! Down towards end of second Street on route 66 eastbound on your way out of town.

Oh, yum. Just yum. Navajo taco so good I posted pictures before I ate it. I do wish we had food like this in Iowa. Until then, I will just have to remember it in my dreams. His pork chop entrée was pretty good, too. But, oh, that Navajo taco.

My first experience eating fry bread and it was great! I got the Navajo taco which was basically a sopa with beans and lettuce. Great prices and amazingly friendly staff. If you stop through, you should support this great little local gem.

Based upon my buddy @ExJon’s review, we decided to try Casa Blanca. It was not for the curb appeal, as it does not convey the experience that awaits you inside. The place is neat and quite popular with the locals. Apparently, it has been in business for 68 years which is mighty impressive given the ups and downs of the Winslow economy.
The menu has pretty much the normal Sonoran/​AZ mexican standards, plus a few twists. Sopapillas are a part of plan, as evidenced by me being glued to the naugahyde booth with stray honey. At most places, there is the eternal question: which is better, the red chile or the green chile? We asked and our server offered us a taste of each, which was very helpful.
We preferred the red and ordered several dishes to check out the food… plus we were starving. The quality throughout was excellent. The red sauce was rich and earthy, the chicken for the chicken tacos was not bland shredded stuff, but well seasoned sauteed chunks. The portions were hearty and served on colorful Fiestaware.
The service was efficient and we thought it reasonably priced for the quality of the food. It is just a half mile east of La Posada and definitely worth a detour.
