Since the 1880s, the Martinelli family has continuously farmed wine grapes from our estate-​grown vineyards in Russian River Valley, and Sonoma Coast. Specializing in Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel, four generations of experience in wine growing has resulted in consistently high-​quality wines produced by our winemaker. Many of our wines are available only by mailing list.

The re-​designed tasting room located in the Historic Hop Barn opened in Fall 2010 and now includes several relics (Leno’s original press, and the barrel that held the first vintage of Jackass Hill Zinfandel) as well as historic pictures dating back to the origins of our family in viticulture. Hours for the tasting room are 10 – 5, 7 days a week. Please call ahead for large groups. Our tasting fee is $ 10 per person.

One of the questions visitors regularly ask is if we are the same ‘Martinelli’ that produces Sparkling Apple Cider. Even though we grow some apples, we don’t make juice from them.

History

Established in 1887.

Giuseppe and Luisa Martinelli developed their first vineyard, planted to Zinfandel in Russian River Valley in the late 1880’s; what now are known as Jackass Vineyard, and Jackass Hill Vineyard. Grandson, Lee Martinelli, Sr., and sons, Lee, Jr. and George now farm over a dozen estate-​grown vineyards that produce our wines. The modern winery was established in the early ‘90s with Helen Turley as the consulting winemaker through 2010. The winery produces highly regarded Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Zinfandel. and Muscat. Wines are made by Bryan Kvamme.
