Cute, quaint and tasty too! Ordered a turkey Ruben that was just delectable! Had to go back 2 days later to have it again! A great, fresh breakfast as well! A+ all around!(Warning: Pitbull allowed to roam freely and sits up on dining chairs??? He’s quite well behaved, but may not be who you’d expect sitting at the next table!)

Great food! Went during the off season, so it was very quiet, but the staff there is nice and helpful. Went there for both breakfast and lunch-type foods, and everything was delicious.

Great cappuccino, baked goods, and sandwiches. Love this place. And has easy access to walking path so you can burn off calories. Windham would not be the same without it.

No frills, straight forward breakfast and coffee joint… Like it here! Probably about 10 round tables that seat 3 – 4 people.

We stopped here on a whim for a cup of coffee and were delighted with how many options they had. Although the majority of what they served is not vegan, they had many items(sandwiches and salads) that could be made vegan easily along with fruit smoothies and soy milk for coffee based drinks. The free wifi and good coffee made this a go-to place for the weekend.

The location and service are great. I also like the quality of the food and coffee. I definitely recommend trying this establishment. They have all kinds of baked goods and other items, and they are reasonably priced.

Wowamazing. I love this place. The coffee is really great, the baked goods are always tempting, but best of all are the people and atmosphere. Quite possibly the friendliest baristas ever! And they do more than coffees and cakes, the sandwiches and salads are excellent and make great fuel for bike rides and runs on the adjacent Windham Path. If you are in the area, don’t miss your chance to ascend to Higher Grounds!

Now that I’ve been here a few times, I find Higher Grounds inconsistent. Once upon a time I got this turkey sandwich and it was great. The cranberry sauce was with some warm stuffing. I loved it — gave me a warm feeling inside. I came back again and didn’t realize they switched the cranberry sauce for some cranberry mayo. BLEH! When I went to get a coffee to go, I mentioned to the person behind the counter that I thought that came with cranberry sauce at one point. they confirmed and said I could request that if I wanted it. So now, I finally got back here, ordered it with the cranberry sauce. And now it’s all cold. It may have been the summer before so it may have been inherently warmer… but I didn’t get that warm feeling. Probably didn’t help that it was 20 outside. If I were to make the same sandwich, I would(1.)toast the bread,(2.) make cranberry sauce the choice addition over mayo,(3.) have the stuffing and cranberry sauce warmed up(NOT via microwave though), and(#4.) melt the cheese onto the bread. My beaux then got some cchip cookies for the road and a majority of the cookie was under baked for my tastes. I’m not a cookie-dough-eating kinda girl. As matter of fact, the last time I ate a cookie that raw, we were more #3(#1+#2 aka the runs) for the following 24 – 36 hours. I bagged the center to cook further in my oven at home. Also, they don’t have Jane’s ice cream anymore. Boo. They have another brand Perry’s… Well, they have the view and atmosphere working for them. I also got a coffee to go… I mixed 2 and that hit the spot and warmed me up a bit.

This is a nice little coffee stop. Geared more towards the yuppie ski crowd than the locals but the staff is friendly, the food is good and the coffee is just fine. Menu is a little limited but they have nice breakfast and lunch items, baked goods etc. The bacon egg and cheese on a hardroll is very good. If you want a good choice of bagels you should come early especially on the busy ski weekends. They also serve ice cream.

Me and my fiancé love this place! We come here every time we are in Windham. We have been here many times with friends and they loved Higher Grounds as well. Coffee is fantastic. Additionally, the bagels are great! I’m from NYC so my expectations are pretty high when it comes to bagels and Higher Grounds exceeds expectations. I usually get a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. It’s better than my local bagel deli at home. The scones are to die for. They are a must try! The atmosphere is really really nice too. I absolutely love the view of the mountains while your eating. Makes it feel country and relaxing. I love this place! Keep up the great work!

The food was okay. I ordered huevos rancheros omelette, it was eggs with sour cream and salsa. Not impressive. My cousin ordered and had to correct her order more then once and it was still wrong. Ordered peasant omelette with bacon, sausage and ham, at $ 1 extra for each meat plus a side of homefries. First she was served just the meat on rye bread. Then she got the omelette with homefries and sour cream, no meat in it. No side of homefries either. At least $ 5 extra of food that was missing. They also had no bagels nor croissants available as of 10:30am.

Coffee here is just OK. Today, I stopped in for breakfast and had a San Gennaro omelet which had sausage, peppers and carmelized onions. It came with a choice of whole wheat or French peasant bread(my selection) and it was very good.

Lower Quality Coffee. Do not even try their coffee. It is like coffee flavored water. As a coffee place, it’s one-star place. As a deli, it might be 3 stars, but they named their business as coffee place, so I have to rate them as a coffee place. I do not understand why the made their name contain«coffee» because they look like a corner deli. They serve something else such as sandwich, cookies, and ice cream, and their weak point is coffee. Try something else besides coffee.

Been going to the«new» higher grounds since it opened. Completely unorganized. Poor service. You can wait 10 – 20 just to pay for a self serve coffee. Way too much help for the shabby service. Baked goods are good! Sandwich/salad board has a good variety. My wife will never eat here again though, when getting home with an egg white turkey wrap; She found the plastic of the turkey(cold cut) wrapping in there too. Big No No for her!

Could these people take longer to make an espresso drink? Absolutely not. I have waited 20 minutes for a cappuccino, which is just absurd. And no, there were no other customers waiting in front of me. They’re just that slow. As a bonus, the coffee is subpar! Baked goods are pretty awesome, hence the two stars. You do have to remind them to give you the treats you paid for after you finish waiting for your coffee, though. I say, go to Daly’s.

I love cafes, but this place has lazy people who work there. I ordered a hummus wrap with no cheese. Twice they asked me what type of cheese I wanted, I said«NOCHEESE» twice, I get home and there is cheese on my sandwich. It may not sound like a big deal, but I’m allergic to dairy and I didn’t feel like having a migraine for two days after eating the cheesy death. I don’t think I’ll go there again. The staff just isn’t smart. I was actually so disappointed that I joined Unilocal just to make this review.

I decided to finally try this place after passing by it for years but I can’t say I was that impressed. Credit limit was $ 10, so we were going to leave because we didn’t think our total was going to hit it, she said it was close enough. I got an iced coffee with mocha, it was pretty good. I also got a resses peanut butter cup cookie which was good but cost like $ 2 something. My boyfriend got the tropical fusion smoothie i think it was called, it was really good, but 3 minutes went buy and all the ingredients were like separating. That was $ 4.25. I was hoping this being a coffee place they’d have frappuchinos, but they didn’t. They had some ice cream though. Service? SMILE. The owner seemed bitchy and wasn’t really all friendly to customers who had questions, neither was the staff. And if you find mold in the tub of sliced tomatoes? Don’t announce it so the customers can hear. I’m not sure if I’ll be returning.

When you live up here, it’s often easier to cook something yummy at home than go out to find a decent(and affordable) place to eat. But if you prefer to venture out on some beautiful sunny day to enjoy the fresh mountain air and scenery, Higher Grounds is a wonderful little place to stop by. I came here for lunch and enjoyed a light meal of ham, scallion & Swiss cheese quiche with a side of mixed greens salad. I also caved in while browsing the pastry window and bought a $ 2 chocolate-chip cookie for dessert. In addition to edibles, the cute café also sells various things ranging from the trendy-looking«Windham» sweaters to locally produced maple syrup to the shop owner’s lovely, handmade ceramic creations. The shop also features beautiful art created by local artists. The second room has several round tables and is brightly illuminated with natural light from the large windows which provide a pleasant view of the mountains by the road. It’s a wonderful place to sit and chat with family and friends. The quiche was delicious – the crust wasn’t soggy at the bottom and the egg with the various toppings/fillings(?) was juicy and flavorful. I would’ve preferred the quiche to be hotter, but it was warm all the way through. The mixed greens come with a small cup of dressing, which tasted like a simple olive oil-balsamic vinegar mix. The cookie was yummy… if you like soft cookies, you’ll love this thick, bigger-than-my-palm-sized hunk of sweetness. The outer shell is crisp but it quickly gives away to a soft, chocolate-chip filled inside. The dough itself isn’t too sweet so you won’t feel like you overdosed on sugar. $ 10 minimum for credit cards.
