History

Established in 2008.

Play Date of Wilson was founded by former schoolteacher, Angela Barkley. It is now owned by another former schoolteacher, Karen Durrett. We are part of a regional franchise that is based in Greenville, NC.

Business Owner

Play Date of Wilson is locally-​owned by Karen Durrett. Karen is a former teacher of Special Education. She earned her degree in Psychology from Barton College in 1994. After that, she earned teaching certificates in Learning Disabilities and Mental Handicaps from East Carolina University. She taught in the public schools for 11 years prior to the adoption of her daughter, Abigail from Guatemala in 2007. She stayed at home with Abbie for a year and began working at Play Date of Wilson when it opened in August of 2008. She became co-​owner of the facility of the facility in the winter of 2010, and sole owner in January of 2011. Karen loves working with children of all ages and ability levels. She enjoys using her teaching experience to challenge the children through interactive play, center based activities, and crafts. She welcomes parents to come to her with any questions or concerns that they may have!
