History

Established in 1987.

To preserve and maintain the precious gift of eyesight is an awesome responsibility. In 1987, Charles J. Simon, OD, accepted that responsibility by launching a private optometric practice in Wilmington, DE. From the beginning, he put patients’ needs first.

«I always believed that if I treated everyone as being part of my family, I would do what was best for each of them,» says Dr. Simon.

Growth followed and today, Simon Eye Associates has become one of Delaware’s largest optometric practices with six offices, 13 doctors and about 70 employees. Guided by its motto, «Eye Care for Life,» Simon Eye Associates has built an outstanding reputation by adopting the latest technologies, emphasizing professionalism, and rigorously developing its personal relationships with patients.

Dr. Charles S.

Business Owner

Charles J. Simon, MS, OD, is the founder and CEO of Simon Eye Associates. Dr. Simon’s degrees include a BA in biological sciences, a BS in visual sciences, a MS in nutritional sciences, as well as his Doctorate of Optometry, which he earned from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

He completed externships in primary care at JFK Hospital Eye Clinic and in electro-​diagnosis and low vision at The Eye Institute, all in Philadelphia. Later he attended postdoctorate studies at the National Eye Institute in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Simon previously was an assistant professor at the University of Delaware and has practiced optometry since 1982.

He is a member of both the American Optometric Association and Delaware Optometric Association. Past memberships include Student Optometric Service to Haiti and Omicron Nu National Honor Society. His awards include The Clinical Excellence Award, Outstanding Graduate Student, Outstanding Young Men of America and Oxford’s Who’s Who.
