My new favorite lunch spot! Ordered the Turkey Vegetarian wheat pita with the broccoli side salad. Made with turkey, special Sahara dressing, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce and provolone. Highly recommend the broccoli salad. All the ingredients were so fresh and tasted like everything was just sliced! Although market street noise is loud the outside patio is nice with seven tables. Also have an enclosed patio on the opposite side for inclement weather. Staff was very friendly checking on my meal. This is a great, quality lunch option that has been in business almost 40 years! That longevity speaks for itself in the restaurant biz.

Shame this place has very good food. But my co workers and I go out too lunch every day. After my friend ordered his food, and then the wrong side came with his meal. The wait staff said it was his fault. And if he wanted his choice side he would be charged added charge. And was asked for money per management. My co workers and I where not pleased. And have not been back sense. They seemed very cheap and, seemed the owner trained them too be this way.

I go here for the Mediterranean but this place also serves hot dogs and burgers. My favorite is the falafel pita And the Mediterranean veggie sampler. They also have really good sweet tea. Order at the window, pay, and are welcome to sit in the screened porch area or outside on the cute little deck.

Nice take out place. We enjoyed our gyro and shawarma. I liked the gyro more than the shawarma. Most of all, I liked the fries. They had great fries!

Freakin amazing gyro… so crispy, tender and flavorful. A side of fries(old school krinkle syle) completed a nice lunch. I think I’ll be stopping here on the way to the pool store everytime. The gyro literally was wrapped so well you didn’t get messy, which is almost impossible with gyros. Love this place!

Nice post beach meal. Ordered the gyro sandwich platter which was a good portion and yummy. The milkshake was also delicious. Great prices.

I no longer live in Wilmington, but when I visit, this is always my go-to spot. I get the same thing every time(which is the turkey veggie pita) and I love it! For some reason no one else makes a turkey pita as good as they do. You can choose between white or wheat pita which is awesome! The broccoli side salad is delicious if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, instead of just fries. P. S. I don’t eat Gyros or Greek salad, so I can’t review those items like the majority of the people have on Unilocal

Cheap and good! I’ve gotten hotdogs here, Pitas, milkshakes and other things. Not much to look at for the road, and I am always nervous that my picky spouse will pan any place that doesn’t resemble the Taj Mahal, but Sahara is even a winner with her. Food is good, quick, affordable, and they have indoor and outdoor benches to wolf it down at. I love this place because it is zero hassle to get in and out with super tasty food.

Party of four ate there late today. food was good not great but that is what would be expected. The price for the food is a little better than others in the area. The step up was really nice of a great weather day. The staff was attentive and food came out quick. We added this place to list of favorites in Wilmington. The food had good taste and was hot, for the price it is a good value.

Friendly, fast service and the best gyros around. This is a locals favorite. I’ve been eating here and the previous location on 17th street for almost 20 years. The one and two star negative reviews are written by idiots who do a disservice to Unilocal

I drive by this place everyday and decided to stop for a gyro. My Greek Gyro Dinner and drink came to $ 11.15 and what a disappointment. The Gyro meat was the pre-sliced and likely previously frozen strips you would not expect for the prices they charge. Served on a styrofoam plate, it came with a small, very small Greek salad that I was charged extra for to add Feta cheese… really?! Want a real Gyro go to Baba Ghannouj !

I did not think the gyro was all that great! The meat should be cut thinly and served nice and hot! This was not the case. The gyro was 4 slices of cold thick meat placed in a pita topped with a small amount of salad! I have had better and maybe coming from California I had really high expectations! Will not be returning!

LOVE Sahara!(Or as I have always called it, The Pita Pad) Sahara is a small, mom and pop sort of place. The food is made to order, so unless you call ahead, you will be waiting for 5 – 15 minutes for your food. I usually call ahead and pick it up. There is a «pita pad» enclosed area where you can hang out and eat your lunch, but it can get steamy in there in the summer months. It has AC but the room is just a glorified screened-in porch. The food is great — ingredients are always very fresh and taste yummy! The lemonade is delicious! Staff are always friendly and ready to help, even when they are SUPER busy. Parking can be a little crazy sometimes, but there is an extra parking lot in the back with plenty of room. I usually park there no matter what. It’s just easier to get in and out of.

This place is great. It doesn’t look like much from the road but trust me it is worth the stop. The food is ultra fresh. If you like Mediterranean food. This is the place for a fast lunch. They have an indoor dining area although you order your food at a stand outside. Not fancy, just good fresh food. I had the Greek Pita with chicken and my wife had the falafel. At first she ordered the wrong sandwich and they replaced it for free. The people working there are really friendly and accommodating.

Everyone I know loves this place. I can only order the greek gyro because it’s that good every time, but my wife can’t get off the veggie hummus pita. The people there are always nice and I’ve probably eaten there 100 times and always had a great experience. One of my buddies says their ruben is his favorite in town… maybe I can bring myself to order something different one day but probably not. 5 solid stars

Mmmm — this was what I was looking for after a long day at the beach! I have been drinking this lemonade all week — get a gallon before you leave or you’ll kick yourself later. Falafel pita was awesome — crunchy, creamy and fresh. Broccoli salad was good, full of cheesy-bacony goodness — vegetarian faux pas of the day. Creamy hummus and baba ghanouj with a choice of white and wheat pita too. Homemade shakes too — come on, what’s not to love? I like the take away window option, perfect for solo diners and healthy eat-at-home.

I got to try Sahara’s on my most recent visit to Wilmington. I liked it. It’s just a small little«shack» where you order at the window and take it to go or eat at the little patio. I tried the steak & cheese sub. It had really good flavor. The hot peppers added just the right kick. My wife ordered the hummus. It looked fantastic and she told me it tasted even better. The rest of the group we were with had great experiences too. I wish I’d tried the lemonade! For lunchtime on a Thursday, this place was busy. The parking lot isn’t big, so it can get a little cramped. I look forward to the next visit.

I love the falafel here. It is seasoned really nicely. I’m also a big fan of their lemonade and baklava. The pieces of baklava are small but just right if you are watching your wallet and your waistline. Other menu items are a disappointment: Their hummus has a nice texture but is very bland. Needs more garlic, lemon juice, something… The tabbouleh is too bland for me as well. Staff are hit and miss.

Really great Mediterranean food. I would give it one more star if I were still into eating roadside, but alas, those days are over. Actually, I did like eating here about 20 years ago, when this place was all by itself on Market street. Wilmington Institution since 1982.

OMG, this place is great! The restaurant consists of an outdoor stand with patio seating. They specialize in pitas, gyros, and things of that nature, but they do have hamburgers and hotdogs as well. I got the traditional greek gyro and it was amazing. The bread was fresh and grilled just right and it was filled to the brim with onions, tomatoes, gyro meat, and feta. It was so good, I didn’t want the experience to end. The lemonade is also just as amazing. The prices are decent as well. I wish there was a place like this in Michigan. I’m sure I would be there everyday to sample everything on their menu. If you’re ever in the Wilmington area. please stop!
