I had the distinct pleasure of having my rehearsal dinner at Captain Bill’s back in May of this year and I was completely impressed with the level of service, quality of food, and the availability of court access for our family v. family volleyball game. Captain Bill’s was originally referred to us by our photographer Billy Beach. Shortly after the referral, we met with Erin– one of the owners– back in October of the previous year while we were in town briefly. When we spoke to her about shopping around for a legit restaurant with a decent rate for the rehearsal, she not only gave us the best rate and great food options, but was also greatly interested in helping us out in other areas of our wedding planning. This was a huge help as we were from out of town! Everything with the correspondence and scheduling was spot on. Keeping in touch with Erin was easy as she always returned calls and emails quickly. She was very plugged into our event from day one. I highly recommend both Captain Bill’s and Musser Catering to anyone considering an event in the Wilmington area. The venue has a great low-key atmosphere with an extremely friendly staff, especially Erin. The food is mainly country style(apparently seafood also) and again, is fairly exceptional to say the least.

Just catered my parent’s anniversary party this past weekend, and we could not have been more pleased. The set up and staff were very professional and easy to work with. The fried chicken(cooked on site) is to die for, so don’t miss out!

Musser’s is connected to /the same as Captain Bill’s Backyard Grill, a restaurant and beach volleyball place. They catered the rehearsal dinner for my wedding, it was awesome! Bob Musser drove up with our whole pig smoking in a pig-cooker trailer and sauced and sliced the whole pig on site. Months before the wedding, we went BBQ tasting all around Wilmington and points north, and Musser’s was our favorite. The fried chicken, hush puppies and pulled pork they served at our wedding were extraordinary. I’m not sure I’ve had better fried chicken anywhere. One thing to be aware of is that Bob Musser’s pulled pork sauce is not your typical NC pepper-and-vinegar sauce. It is rich, spicy, and slightly tomato-y. He claims it is a family recipe passed down from his father, a Kentuckian. It is super tasty, but if you are a NC pulled pork purist you may find it peculiar — and you’d be missing out on a real unique treat.
