Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

Went in on a hot, Saturday afternoon around 2. Place was empty. Asked for a seat on the lower deck and as we passed thru the dining room I noticed just one couple eating, the bar area only had bar patrons and there were only two occupied tables on the deck. One was a couple next to us who had finished eating and were only sticking around for drinks and the other was a couple that was already eating. Waitress Jaq greeted us right away and was very pleasant. We ordered four burgers and a chicken sandwich and waited two hours for them to arrive. The fact the place was empty and no staff brought up the crazy wait time made me think this is normal and acceptable to them. I get that a bar wants to keep you waiting so you can order a second drink before the food arrives, but this was just ridiculous. Two hours!
Food was decent as usual. Just a few mistakes, the Santa Fe didn’t have the bacon it was supposed to and came with fries instead of the side salad ordered. I asked for my Bleu to be medium and was told that would result in rare so, I asked for medium well thinking I would get medium, but that resulted in a perfect medium well. No biggie, but if you can cook medium well to order why can’t you cook medium to order?

Not bad, the best thing about this restaurant is the ever growing location, and views.

This restaurant was on the river walk near our hotel. We were seated right away on the patio. Our waiter was super friendly and patiently answered any questions we had. Our food took a while to get to the table, but it wasn’t a big deal at all. We were not in any rush. I ordered the seafood pot pie. The crust was perfectly cooked — flaky, not soggy. The scallops were my favorite part of the dish. It was good, but don’t know if I’d order again. My husband had the salmon. I think it would look better plated on a smaller plate because the salmon was placed on top of the sides, but it was perfectly cooked. My daughter ordered the brewski burger, fries with ranch dressing. The dressing is just how we like it thinner and not thick and mayonnaisey. The little one had chicken pot pie, fries, and ice cream. The chicken pot pie was really good especially to be on the kids menu. My husband and I tried different beers and they were all really good.

Very nice outdoor balcony where you can eat, drink, and view the river. Inside atmosphere is great also. This place has awesome beer selections, and there is always something appealing. Nice appetizers, entrée selection. Food seems fresh and creative.

Stopped here with my family and 3 dogs on the way down to Virginia for our summer vacation. They graciously allowed us to sit out on the terrace with our dogs and even brought ice water for them to drink! The waitress (Ava) was extremely knowledgable about the extensive menu and vast selection of seasonal craft beers as well as very sweet to our dogs! Beer and food (sweet potato fries especially) were great — got 2 growlers to go and carried on to Virginia with a happy family and 3 happy dogs.

Fish & Chips are solid. I’m not a beer drinker, but my friends are and love the brews. View is great.

Great beer! I had a delicious crab cake sandwich for dinner. Prices are reasonable and the restaurant is right on the Delaware River.

I had the jerk pork «porterhouse» which is really a VERY TENDER pork chop drizzled with with a crème sauce. VERY good!
The sweet potato fries? Let me just say I’ve eaten a LOT of SPF’s over the years and these were BY FAR the most tender, moist and flavorful I’ve ever had!
I would love to come back here!!!

I had the Chile Shrimp and it was fantastic. The beer is great too. Our waitress was excellent. Definitely a place to check out while in Wilmington.

Nice little place to have a quick bite and a nice brew. We had the house IPA wich was pretty good. U suggest the Cheessesteak Eggroll and the Bacon wrapped Scallops. Yummmmm

Steph and Alex took me to Iron Hill for Steak and Stout week. We ordered fried Brussels sprouts to share, and I ordered a raspberry lemonade yum! I had the petite filet with seafood macaroni and cheese. The filet was so tender it melted in my mouth and was cooked perfectly. The seafood macaroni and cheese had shrimp and crab and scallops (I think) and was so good. I had the molten chocolate lava cake for dessert. It wasn’t really molten, more like a thick chocolate pudding but it was still chocolaty and delicious.

If you are into wine and beer made from scratch this is the place to come and visit. They make there own beer and wine here.

Probably my favorite place to go on the riverfront, it gets 5 stars for reliability and 3 for the actual food. If the weather is nice, the upstairs outdoor bar is an excellent place to enjoy a beer.
This place has a pretty low risk-​reward profile with its food and drink. The beers are solid, though none really stand out. The food is okay, but rarely anything to write home about.
The sweet potato fries: terrible execution. Cut extremely thick and probably fried once from raw, these things never stood a chance at crisping up. However, despite their deliberate flaccidity, I must say they are quite tasty as long as you get them with the dipping sauces.

I will start this review by admitting that I’ve been to this location at least thirty times. In fact, it’s my favorite restaurant to go to in the Riverfront area. So, why the three star rating?
I wish I could separate the food from the beer. If I could, I would rate the beer /​bar atmosphere 4 stars and the food 2 stars.
Beer /​Bar Atmosphere — 4 stars:
The beer selection is good and constantly changes. They always have a varied selection of house beers and seasonal beers. There are good happy hour specials. In fact, the beer is fairly inexpensive even out of happy hour. There are three bars at the restaurant: a downstairs bar, an upstairs bar, and an outdoor balcony/​patio that overlooks the river. All three bars have laidback atmospheres and are staffed by attentive and friendly bartenders with great attitudes.
Unfortunately, when I find myself enjoying a cold beer at the bar with friends, I feel the need to order food. That is when the good experience comes to an unfortunate end.
Food — 2 stars:
The food is flavorless and uninspired, and I’ve had most of the items on the menu. It’s so flavorless that a nearby salt/​pepper shaker is a requirement. Noodles taste like they were pulled directly out of a pot of water and put onto the plate. The steak tastes like generic meat, and the side dishes all taste the same — almost like they were all made up out of the same, homogenous ingredients. Ok, maybe I’m hyperbolizing a bit, but you get the point.
There are three exceptions though: the chicken wings, Fajita Spiced Chicken Salad, and their soup selection. The wings are juicy and moist, and if you like ranch with your wings, you’ll love their house ranch. The Fajita Spiced Chicken salad is also very good; it has varied and fresh ingredients, full of flavor, and is very lightly tossed in dressing. Lastly, their rotating soup selection does not disappoint.
Two other interesting facts:
1. The bar area is open until 1am on weekends, and they serve a smaller late-​night menu.
2. If you go to Iron Hill frequently, be sure to enroll in the «King of the Hill» rewards program. It’s a surprisingly good rewards program with quite a few perks.

— Very interesting place with their own visible brewery. Attentive staff, nice interior décor. We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer and for dinner we shared a BBQ pizza, and chicken dish. If your passing through or visiting Delaware, it’s a good spot to grab lunch/​dinner.

Wow, I was really impressed with the Iron Hill Brewery on the Riverfront. The burger was, I dare say, the best burger I’ve had in my entire life. The fries were also great. And the atmosphere was beautiful. We sat upstairs in a high top and had a very cool view of the Christina River. Not as cool a view as Timothy’s, but still one of the better views you’ll find in New Castle County. The prices are a little high, but if you like beer and burgers this is your place to come.
Wilmington has really revitalized the Riverfront. Don’t be scared away by the «Murder Town USA» crap. Yes, Wilmington has its bad parts. Any large city does. But the Riverfront isn’t one of them. You can be any person regardless of race, sex, or age and walk the entire Riverfront without any fear of being victimized. So please go to Penn Cinema IMAX. Go to Joe’s Crabshack. Go to Stratosphere trampoline park. But most of all, go to Iron Hill. You’ll have a great meal with a great beer and a great view.

I recommend getting the steak flank salad! I got the steak medium rare… juicy and tender!!! So overall I would give this place a 3.5…depending on what you get it could go down to a 3 or back up to the 4.

Again visited a week ago while up for business. The atmosphere was definitely loud, however the food was good. I ordered the ‘Garcia Pizza’ (yes because that’s my last name, which I also mentioned to the server seeing if I could catch a good discount, yeah didn’t happen LOL) either way it was great! Got to enjoy a few friendly IPA’s. Definitely plan on coming back.

We took mom here for Mother’s Day brunch and I was very happy with my experience. We made a reservation with Open Table but decided to sit outside (which is first come-​fist serve). They have an upstairs and downstairs with lots of seating options.
The food was delicious! They have a specialty burger for every day in May so I had mom’s brunch burger which was perfectly done on a delicious bun and had a sunny side up egg, prosciutto, and Brie. It was really good. My brother really liked his crab cakes and mom loved her salmon with mashed potatoes… She even cleaned her plate (which she rarely does)!
This restaurant has its own house made brews and is right on the riverfront. The server was quick and efficient. Not overly friendly… But she got the job done. The highlights are a great location and excellent food! I highly recommend Iron Hill!

Stopped here for the beer. Found them to be nothing special. I have come to expect bland beers from restaurant/​breweries — and they followed the typical pattern. The soft pretzels were a good accompaniment to the beer though.
The location and the facility are both nice and I would definitely come back if I am in the area to try the food next time.
