Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington

Great guide had lots to add to each story. She said she knew 25 stories and we heard about six in about 90 minutes. Didn’t walk too far around the area, just a few blocks.

Very interesting. Loved hearing about the history of the homes! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and very entertaining.

Children and well behaved dogs are welcome.
I have never been on a ghost tour before, so I wasn’t sure if I’d be crawling around attics while cold invisible goblins ran past me or what.
You basically walk a short distance and the guide tells stories. My guide was very knowledgeable. She told spooky stories in a fun way which were very informative of Wilmington’s history.
I believe there are 3 or 4 different tours available. The tour I went on was around 1.5hrs long and we walked around a half mile, stopping for 15 or 20 minutes at each location.
At night there are lots of wild people on the street walking from bar to bar and some questionable characters asking for change near where I parked. This normally doesn’t bother me but at 11PM I can see how it would make some people uneasy.

My husband and I have been on lots of ghost walks around the South! This was by far our favorite! Our guide was Jamie and he was fabulous! He was a great storyteller and some of the stories really gave us the creeps.
We didn’t see any ghosts but we loved hearing the stories about historic Wilmington and seeing the beautiful houses!

We learned about the ghost walk our first afternoon in town. We couldn’t pass it up. The tour guide was nice and really knew what she was doing. They do other tours and we’ll definitely be going back for more. If your in Wilmington even for a night, you have to do this tour!!!

To quote Jack Torrence, «She’s a bona fide ghost story and horror movie addict.». That description fits me well. I am also a history fanatic, and a lover of the art of storytelling. I figured a ghost walk would be a perfect activity to cover all my loves.
The town of Wilmington is old, with beautiful buildings and homes, steeped deep in history. I enjoyed looking at the architecture, but I was not intrigued by the stories themselves.
Perhaps it was our guide, who retold the tales. She stumbled and filled in words quite often, also mixing up the stories at each location, so they all sounded too similar. There was a bit of backtracking once she realized what was done.
There were about four or five stops on the walking tour. I enjoyed looking around and taking pictures at all but one of the stops. It was here that I did encounter true horror. Situated in a narrow, dark, smelly alley, I stepped in what could have been vomit or discarded mushroom soup!

My group took this tour back right before Halloween and had a lot of fun. The ghosts came out that night at one of the pubs (with the largest urinal on the East Coast, that’s the attraction) which was a nice treat. The timing at each pub is different so I wish they told you to order a drink quicker at some versus others. Our tour guide was a woman, I am sad I cannot remember her name but she was amazing. Definitely recommend.

Very interesting and intriguing! Micheal B is a great story telling and very knowledgeable. Love how they interact real history with real stories of death and murder while walking through such a beautiful city.

Great tour, the guide said he’s got many stories so it’s great to go on multiple times and you probably won’t hear the same story twice. They give back stories so it’s not all a bunch of «trying to scare you» moments. Very good tour. If you want a smaller crowd go in the colder months not around Halloween.

Looking for thrills & chills this may not be the walk for you. The stories were intriguing, haunting & it was cool to learn more about the area. Our guide Michael was knowledgeable, kind & fun. Honestly I could have walked another mile for more interesting history tid-​bits. It was a nice way to spend our 11^th anniversary. Don’t forget to grab a treat from Kilwin’s after your walk, you will thank me on both counts.

I have been to Wilmington several times and finally on a rainy beach week we had to find something else to do. I love watching ghost chasing shows and love hearing history. I give this three stars because I really enjoyed hearing the history of Wilmington, but didn’t find it to be as adventurous as I hoped. I wanted to be scared! Our guide was cool, but the stories were long winded. I wish we could have visited more places and spent less time listening to the guide.

Been to tours like these all over the place and this was one of the best. Would recommend the 8:30pm tour — it’s much better when it’s dark! Learned a lot of history as well and saw some great mist sees in wilmington. Graveyards & dark alleyways at night — definitely fun. It was like 90+ minutes but the tour guide was great and kept everyone on their toes. Quite a walk so wear some comfy shoes!

Having taken these types of tours in various cities, I was excited to see what Wilmington’s haunted tour had to offer. I was not let down! Over 90+ minutes, we visited 6 locations around the city from the spooky alleyways downtown to the palatial homes of the residential areas and reviewed both the fascinating history of the city as well as tales of creepy ghosts who haunt the places we stopped.
Informative, fun, and creepy, I will definitely be coming back for more!

I didn’t expect to see any ghosts or spectres, but I did expect to be entertained. Instead, the tour consisted of four stops with rambling, mostly boring stories. The guide provided too little history and a just a little bit more of a few ghost stories, but spent most of his time sharing experiences of former tour guests who had taken pictures of spooky images, or allegedly experienced fairly ho-​hum supernatural events. The tour would have been much more interesting with greater emphasis on Wilmington ghosts and history and less about what the guide had experienced on previous tours. It seemed meant to convince us that places are actively haunted, but came across as more about the guide than the tour.

Your experience with this likely greatly depends on your guide. Ours shared 4 rather un-​inspiring, even boring stories in 90 minutes. I don’t doubt that others have had much better experiences with Ghost Walk when assigned better storytellers.

Who are those swashbuckling pirates always walking around in downtown Wilmington? They’re your potential ghost walk tour guides! Or some homeless dudes that stumbled upon pirate gear. Or actual ghost pirates! But I digress…
This ghost walk is definitely a good time. You can buy tickets ($ 15) either where the tour begins (over on Water St. or in that area) or at the Black Cat Shoppe. It’s a typical ghost walk with a lot of history, accounts of paranormal activity, and theatrics from your tour guide. The tour guides all seem to enjoy their jobs, however, and definitely know their stuff. Like any such tour, you’re bound to have a few kids that are «too cool for school» in the group and spend their time being loud and disruptive. Hopefully your tour guide calls them out on their shenanigans or a vengeful ghost that hates annoying people attacks them on the tour. One can dream…
Being in Wilmington, one of the best parts of the tour (I thought) was just strolling by the huge, expansive old-​school Southern style homes that I dream of living in someday. It was cool getting to hear about the history of these homes, and hoping that their potential haunted status may drive down property costs.
All in all, the Ghost Walk is cheap and fun. Suspend your disbelief and your maturity (to a degree), and thou shall have a great evening. On a separate note, can you believe this company runs tours numerous times an evening all year long? Insane!

This too me did not seem like a ghost tour more of a ghost story walk. I was not as impressed with this one as others I have been on in other cities. It seemed to be somewhat of the same story in all locations.
The tour guide was nice but it seemed like he was reading of a cue card that he has been handed night after night which made it seem very construed. I know that is a tour and your have to remember the information but come on give a little life into it.
The tour wasn’t horrible but not the best. The price is not all that bad. the best part of the tour for me was socializing with the other tour goers and making some new friends.
So if you are in Wilmington and have an extra $ 15.00 and like ghost stories then defiantly give this a try.

This ghost walk is spooky!
We were lucky enough to get John Henry Scott as a guide — he was great! You can tell he really enjoyed telling the stories and his enthusiasm kept me going (after a long day of doing other touristy things in Wilmington!). The fact that each story was true was what made me feel kind of spooked while listening to everything. It was also a great way to learn the history of a small, historical city.
One bonus is that at each stop, the guide tells you some paranormal happenings that have occured in recent years. For example, at one stop, John Henry Scott was explaining a certain object that kept appearing in people’s photos for no explainable reason. And someone on our tour captured it!
With tickets at only $ 12 a pop, I would definitely come back and do this again. Each tour is different, depending on the route you take.
