During a recent bicycle trip in the area, my friend and I had the pleasure of staying in this fine guest house. This is contemporary style house on 300 acres of idyllic pastures, fields, woods, and a pond. The property features an abundance of modern artwork and sculptures both inside the property and out, and is immaculately maintained. Outside, there are mowed paths in the grass if you feel so inclined to take a peaceful stroll around the park-like grounds. Our stay was made so welcome by the Innkeeper, Olé(pronounced«Ola»), and the small staff of friendly, dedicated individuals. Everyone here makes you feel right at home, and that you have free reign of the property without restrictions. There is a common refrigerator in the kitchen, along with homemade baked goods on the counter. The living room has modern artwork and sculptures, along with a beautiful panoramic view of Mount Greylock and the surrounding mountains, with a pond in the foreground. One really nice feature is that there are no televisions in the guest rooms, nor the common rooms. There is, however, classical music playing softly in the living room. This property is not just someplace to crash when you’re out of town. This is a retreat center that can be enjoyed as a destination in itself. We stayed in the North Room, which features one queen sized bed, a private bathroom, a wood burning fireplace which guests are free to use, and a deck overlooking some of the sculptures on the property, the open fields, and a beautiful view of Mount Greylock. When we stayed, the weather was unseasonably warm for October, and the use of this deck was definitely something we took advantage of and it really added value to our stay. A full hot breakfast is served every morning between 8:00 — 10:00. The first morning we stayed here, we enjoyed quiche with toast, and a delicious homemade coffee cake. The second morning, scrambled eggs with spinach and feta cheese was served, again with toast. The food was prepared and presented very nicely and was a treat to enjoy. Of course, there is also an assortment of teas, coffee, and juice. In addition to the excellent accommodations is the clientele itself. During our stay, we noticed an older, upscale crowd that was staying here. My friend and I are in our thirties and forties, and we were by far the youngest people here. Being surrounded by that caliber of individuals certainly made our experience more enjoyable and relaxing. With its idyllic setting and friendly, easygoing staff, I can honestly say that the Guest House at Field Farm is the nicest place I’ve stayed, even better than the fine hotels in Boston. This is a great destination for couples who want to get away, individuals seeking a temporary retreat from the world, or anyone staying in the area who appreciates quality accommodations with excellent service.
