Select Modular Homes

The company is owned by two sisters (Julia and RoseAnn). These are very nice woman, and I believe they try their hardest to do their best for their clients. Unfortunately, this type of business deals mostly with men, and I don’t think the subcontractors give these women the proper respect they deserve.
There are a couple reasons I give this company only one star. If it weren’t for these two issues, I would have given them 5 stars. The first reason is I don’t think Julia was being honest with us when we agreed to use them. My late wife and I had noticed that every modular homes we saw stood higher off the ground then the standard home. Because my late wife had terminal breast cancer and her mother had lymphedema, we needed the house to have only a couple steps. Julia told us this was no problem. Apparently it was because the house had many steps. This became a big time issue when my late wife ended up on oxygen, and my mother-in-law’s legs ballooned to 35 lbs or more a piece. They both struggled to get up and down those stairs. So, if you want your new home to sit close to the ground, DO NOT go modular.
Now I think this next issue dealt with them being woman and actually kind of bullied by their subcontractors, especially the concrete company. Select Modular promises to have your home built in a certain amount of time. Our home fell behind schedule and we were complaining about this as we were stuck in my mother-​in-​laws tiny house. I believe because we were pressuring them they allowed the cellar to be pored on a day it was flurrying. Concrete can not be pored in cold weather, and it certainly should not be pored when it is flurrying. The final result of this horrible decision to pore concrete on this day devalued my home big time. Cracks that seeped water into the basement became the end result. The concrete company tried to fix the problem twice and failed. A friend of my late wife used to work for a company that fixed cellar walls, so Select Modular hired them on our recommendation.
Coatings and Repair Services said they were the best, and they guaranteed that the walls would never be a problem again. Not much time passed after their repair that two of the cracks were issues again. They did come out and try to fix the walls again. The repair lasted a couple days pass three years (just long enough for the State’s new home warranty to have expired). When I called CRS they refused to repair the walls again.
Since my wife died, I found it too difficult to live there. (When you have a new home, all the walls are white. My late wife put her wonderful touch to this house and made it absolutely gorgeous). I paid $ 200K for the house and the property for $ 38K at a time when the housing market had begun to crash (2006). I put a lot money in wall paper, mirrored closets, making the closets efficient, putting stone around the fireplace, putting down hard wood floor in two more rooms, putting fans in most of the rooms, etc.) I just sold the house for $ 180K and I have to pay $ 7K in closing cost. It cost me $ 4100K to repair the wall and I had spent $ 3K in 2009 to have sub pumps put at the three walls were water would gushed in.
If the cellar had been pored properly and I only had three steps at the most, I could have recouped my money easily. If this company was ran by men, maybe the construction wouldn’t have fallen behind schedule. It is really too bad these subcontractors give Julia and RoseAnn a hard time. I believe they really want the best for their clients. They are super nice, and pleasant to deal with; but the delays caused quite a quagmire.
If my cellar had been pored on day acceptable to concrete, I would have given them 3 stars. If my cellar had been done properly, and if I didn’t have more than 3 steps, I would have given them 5 stars. Too bad they fell behind schedule.
