The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg

The facilities are nice, but that’s where it ended for me. I was gifted a massage and I decided to treat myself to a haircut in addition to that. My masseuse was nice, however, she did not stop talking the entire time I was getting a massage. Her conversation topics of choice were quite heavy as well and I was not able to relax. The massage also felt more like a rub than a proper massage. Then it was time for the haircut, which was much worse. I was asked «how short?» rather than what I was looking for or kind of style I would like, and the stylist kept making comments about how damaged my hair was. She worked on my hair very quickly and without much precision. In the end, my haircut was EXTREMELY uneven — I cut off 8+ inches, and some of the remaining pieces were still as long as my hair before the cut. She did not give me layers, yet I have awkward chunks of longer and shorter hair. It was the worst haircut I’ve ever received, and yet the most expensive. I was shocked by the price of the haircut at the end, it was outrageous. Would NEVER return or recommend.

I highly recommend Breontae. Just had a massage with him and it was amazing. He took the time to understand my pain points and give me the massage that I needed. I come to Williamsburg regularly and I have had massages with others, but he is the best. I will be asking for him again the next time I visit.
Take time to get there early and take advantage of the whirlpool and sauna. I also enjoy relaxing in the meditation room. On Monday — Thursday the offer spa packages and 25% off spa products. If you can take time during the week it’s a good discount.
Spa times very and I’m able to get a late one at 5:45 after a long day of meetings at the hotel. Do yourself a favor and make time for yourself when you are staying in the Williamsburg area. You won’t regret it.

I had a wonderful experience at this spa! It definitely has all the amenities and a very extensive menu of services. I only had the spa pedicure, but was invited to relax in the women’s lounge with tea and calming music. My nails looked fabulous, and the scrub and massage portion was excellent, although not overly long. Prices are quite reasonable given the loveliness of the facility, including the gorgeous gardens.
I have been to many spas for massage and other treatments, and this ranks right up there. My only complaints would be the pretty but uncomfortable cushioned wooden chairs in the lounge, and the quite hard, although cushioned, pedicure chairs. By the end of my visit, my tailbone was a bit sore. If you are petite, it might not bother you. Also, the jazzy Muzak downstairs (as opposed to the quiet spa sounds upstairs) was disconcerting.

Visited the spa today while staying at the Lodge. Made a last minute appt for a Facial and so glad I did! Aimee was awesome and gave me the best facial I have had in a very long time and I’ve been to a lot of spas around the U.S. She was so nice and did a wonderful job with the perfect amount of talking for me to get the info I wanted. So relaxing and wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the facilities.

I had a lovely day there. Had body scrub, massage, lunch, facial, mani/​pedi. Total with tip was about $ 600 which I think was reasonable for the quality and ambiance. All the staff were really nice. I thought the pedicure chair was a bit uncomfortable but everything else was awesome.

Most relaxing experience ever!
My mother-​in-​law recently moved her mother to VA and definitely needed a massage and spa day. We both did the one hour hot stone massage and it was fantastic. They asked you what type of lotion/​smell you wanted and the key body parts to work on. If you are sensitive to heat, which I am apparently, don’t get the stones they are HOT! I was hoping more for a warm stone, or once they bring out the stones tell them to keep them out instead of returning them to the heat source
The lockers are small, don’t bring a massive bag, which I did! The robes and massage waiting area are lovely with lounge sofas and teas to relax with. The massage therapists were very good and listened to my requests of legs and feet as a runner.
The steam room is overwhelmingly steamy, with eucalyptus but was very nice once you learned how to breathe in it. After wards I took a shower, my momther-​in-​law didn’t. The shower heads come from above and are huge to mimic rain. The showers have really nice shampoo conditioner and body wash. Plenty of towels of all sizes were available and a nice space to change and do hair/​makeup too.
At the end we got the total and then found out the tip was included, it was almost like pulling teeth to get an itemized summary of our bill but it was what we expected.
The whole spa felt like a European underground grotto with neutral colored marble and tile everywhere. It was very clean and the attendants were there to get you anything you needed. I was so pleasantly satisfied. I live in Ohio and we will be returning for more services on another visit!

Wow. What a pleasant surprise. I’ve been to spas at many high end hotels but this experience is by far the best I’ve ever had. The facilities are beautiful. The staff is so gracious and helpful and there are plenty of them to keep every guest comfortable. I bought a package which including a body scrub, massage and finished with a facial. One was better than the next and all, again, the best I can remember. I wish I lived nearby… I’d certainly buy a membership.

We bought a 60-​minute stress relief couples massages and added a bath to it. The bath was relaxing and we liked how it had lights that changed color. The massages were great! I almost fell asleep a couple of times. I really liked the couples lounge, snacks and the teas were wonderful. The amenities were great too– robes, towels, deodorant spray, combs, razors etc. I liked the shampoo & conditioner. The only negative is that we were under the impression that we’d have & be able to use a private shower, which was in our suite (I think we were even told this over the phone). However, during our visit it seemed as though we weren’t allowed to use it.

We called the day before to make couples massage appts. Which were easily made by the friendly staff. My husband and I loved the experience. From the décor to the amenities, this spa was great. The staff was courteous and asked a lot of questions before the massage services so they knew exactly what we wanted out of our massages. From moderate/​deep tissue pressure… This place was great!
Very well kept, great staff, beautiful from the moment you enter the facilities.
Definately would go again!

I bought a 60 minute couple’s massage for my girlfriend and I as part of her birthday weekend in Williamsburg. She had been asking for a massage for awhile, and given the reviews I figured The Spa would be a good choice. It was. 100% the best choice.
When I reserved the massage, I was thinking it would be something that I would enjoy simply because she’s enjoying it. In all actuality, I think my experience at the Spa was better than hers. First of all, there aren’t many men who go (at least not when I was there), so I had the entire mens locker room to myself. Free reign of the sauna and whirlpool hot tub before and after the massage was incredibly nice. That’s right, my entire time at the Spa not one other guy was in the locker room with me. The same can’t be said for my girlfriend, who mentioned to me that the case was different in the women’s area (albeit still extremely enjoyable since she too got to use the sauna and hot tub — just not all to herself).
So even before our massage, I was beginning to really dig this place. And the massage just made it even better. My masseur, John, did an incredible job. Very professional and courteous, and made me feel very comfortable. My girlfriend said her masseuse, Veronica, was great as well. Enough can’t be said about how relaxed these two made us feel by the time 60 minutes were up.
Overall, the Spa is incredible. Beautiful and peaceful grounds and interior, which was set up in a way that completely disconnects you from the outside world. At times, because the locker rooms were downstairs, feeling underground, and the massage rooms are on upper levels, we couldn’t tell where we were in the building and it really contributed to us having the right mindset of total relaxation. The only thing I would change would be for us to take advantage of the pools and hot tub that we could be in together. We missed out on that, but now that we know the drill we’ll be sure to check that part of the Spa out when we return. And we most definitely will return.

Stopped by as a guest at Williamsburg Lodge. Equipment is in great condition and they have a calming spa. There are THREE pools– including a quiet pool without kids. Very relaxing.

I called the morning of my birthday to make a spur of the moment spa day. They were able to get me in for all the requests I wanted (full body massage, paraffin mani/​pedi). I arrived about 15 min early. The area is absolutely beautiful! I have never been to that part of Williamsburg and can’t wait until spring. I plan to go back when it warms up. Upon my arrival the staff was very nice with greeting me as soon as I walked in the door. I’ve been to places where it takes ½ for them to acknowledge my presence. So they get a gold star for that one.
However; the entire place was cold :-(During my full body massage, I asked if he could turn up the heat. Even though I was on a warming blanket, I was still a bit cold. The massage room itself wasn’t very welcoming. It reminded me more of a doctor’s office than a place of tranquility. My massage was ok, but I’ve had better. I forget the gentleman’s name, but I asked for medium pressure and it felt as though he was simply rubbing on me. I didn’t smell the aromatic oils I requested for my aromatherapy massage. The music wasn’t very soothing either. It sounded more like elevator music than relaxation.
The waiting/​dining lounges are pretty nice. I ordered lunch (humus dip). The menu is pretty pricey, but it’s to be expected at a spa.
My mani/​pedi was simply «eh». I thought I was getting a wax paraffin, but ended up getting a bag of oil massaged on my hands/​feet. It was basically like a mani/​pedi you would get at a shop in the same plaza as your local grocers. It was all a part of my 6 hour pampering session, so I didn’t complain.
The best part about my experience was the steam room. I absolutely loved that 15 minutes of heaven! Even though the geyser noise of the steam almost gave me a heart attack the first time it went off.
Although I’ve been to better spas and there is nothing too exciting for me to rave about, it was a good experience and I enjoyed my birthday spa day. Unfortunately I had my expectations too high and was a bit disappointed.

This place was great. I was astounded by the beautiful aesthetics of the place as I walked in, and it only got better from there. I was led downstairs to change into a super comfy robe before my services and shown around the women’s lounge, which was awesome to say the least. It had a giant whirlpool, steam room, and showers complete with shampoo/​conditioner/​body wash, as well as hair dryers, hairspray, combs, etc. to help you feel all fresh after your services.
I got the 50 minute stress therapy massage, and the 50 minute smoothing facial, I believe. I’ve only had Swedish massages before today, and this was definitely different. It was relaxing, but I could definitely tell that it was way more of a deep tissue massage and really focused in my upper back and neck area. Just what I needed. The facial was really great and seemed to cater to my specific skin problems really well. I loved the steam that was part of my treatment. My face looked really hydrated and clean when I was done.
The waiting area was nice as well. It had comfy lounge chairs and soft blankets to cuddle under between services. There was also tea, water, almonds, and fruit available.
The staff were all very nice and knowledgeable. When I called to schedule my services, I had a lot of questions about which ones to get, and I was very happy that the girl in the phone knew how to answer them.
I will totally go back to this place and definitely recommend it to others. Look for the seasonal specials — lots of services are half price on certain days. Oh, and make sure to bring a swimsuit to the whirlpool unless you want to go «au naturale». ;)

Worth the money. This is such a relaxing experience from the moment you are in the locker room through the relaxation lounge and your procedure. The staff leads you down to the locker room. I would suggest arriving early if you are with your girlfriends and bring a swimsuit as there is a full and generous sized wet lounge within the locker room, which includes a very large jacuzzi that could probably baptize a small church. The locker room also has of all the amenities. The showers have their signature shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. The lockers have the digital locks as well as a high quality spa robe and slipper/​sandals. There is a powder table area that has spray deodorant, combs and everything that a lady might need to go back out into the world. All you need is a swimsuit if you are going to take a dip and your powder for afterwards (unless you are getting a facial as they even apply a tinted sunscreen to your freshly cleaned skin). In every waiting area there is a fruit-​infused water station as well as almonds, fresh fruit, and a selection of teas.
Regarding the services, they are second to none and I do mean none. Massage and spa services are my thing and these are the absolute best. My husband (God love that man) bought me a package here for my birthday. I got a thirty minute bath infused with various herbs and a relaxing potion as it were, first. It was simply divine. They thought of everything down to a bowl of ice so that I could regulate the temperature at my discretion. Second, I went to have my massage. Best. Massage. Ever. Relaxing, therapeutic, and included aromatherapy. Perfect for a stressed out teacher with a bad shoulder. The facial was last and proved to be very thorough an attentive to my skin type.
Regarding the couples services, again, first rate. There is a separate waiting area from the singles that still holds all the comforts and aforementioned amenities. We elected to have the bath and the massage. There was a light therapy option where you could have the water continually change from one soft color to the next or where you could choose for it to remain on a single color that you found particularly soothing. Also, the bath and massage were in the same room that also held a private bathroom.
I have experienced other spas, but this is on a plane all its own. The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg is quintessentially Virginian; flawless service, but warm, welcoming and understated.

This is only for the weight room. It was never crowded when I was there and they had a lot of different Nautilus machines and some dumbbells. Most hotels just have one machine and dumbbells.

This spa was a wonderful place for relaxing in Williamsburg. My fiancé and I visited it on a Monday for a couples massage and really enjoyed our experience. In fact, we both almost fell asleep during the massage – it was that relaxing. The locker rooms are nice – they provide an array of teas, ice water, fruit and almonds when you arrive. The robes that they have you change into are very comfortable and high-​quality. In the women’s locker room, there is a steam room, sauna and whirlpool. There are also a few showers for you to shower off before or after your massage.
The only frustrating experience that I had while visiting was that there is only one place for couples to relax before and after the massage – in the couple’s lounge – and I found that the furnishings in that room were pretty sub-​par compared to the furnishings in the women’s only lounge. The women’s only lounge had upholstered chairs with blankets etc., while the couples lounge only had somewhat hard benches and a few tables with chairs. The water for the tea was also a little cold (perhaps it was intentional?).
All in all, the massage was very relaxing and we enjoyed our experience. I would just suggest that if you’re going as a couple, realize that there might not be much time to spend together before/​after relaxing since you’ll likely want to leave the couple’s lounge and be on your way…

Serene, warm, relaxing, wonderful. This is a full-​on spa with body and skin treatments, massage, facials, nail and hair care, and a gym. You get use of their whirlpool, steam room, and showers (the men’s locker room also has an ice plunge) with any gym or spa service. The locker rooms are clean and well kept. The attendents are professional and helpful. Their products are nice and you leave feeling wonderfully refreshed. A little bit of heaven in Williamsburg.

Absolutely fantastic, I really cannot say that enough! I have been here a few times, and recently visited with my mom for a mother/​daughter thing. I can honestly say this is one of the most wonderful spas I have been to. The facilities as a beautiful, clean, peaceful, and extensive. There is a wonderful hot and cold water area available the whole day of your treatment — whirlpool, steam room, cold shower, regular showers — and vanities for getting ready to go out after without feeling sweaty. There is unique tea and little snacks everywhere. You can even order food in. They really have thought of everything.
Every treatment I have had here has been wonderful. The massage therapists come from some of the top schools, are quite clever, and really take note of your needs and personality. Everything — everything — smells incredible, but it my personal experience the lavender lemongrass scent is the best. I literally feel a bit relaxed just thinking of it. Their products are very high quality, and do not leave you feeling too greasy or too… anything.
Another awesome part of this is the price. They are incredibly reasonable, and I have actually seen more costly services at small local places in rural Maryland than at this resort. I can’t wait to go again.
